Like today, everything here will be locked up tighter than a drum on Sunday too.
If it were going to be warm, which it is not, I would consider going to the Falls on Sunday.

Our big family dinner is tomorrow. Denninger's ham, scalloped potatoes, roasted mini potatoes (my contribution), and whatever my SIL prepares - meat and veggie-wise.
Pics to follow, surely.

Hope y'all have a blessed time! :)
Lookin' forward to the pics, as usual!

Our big family meal will be, as per usual, at my folks on Sunday.
I need to remember to take some pics to share, as well...! :)

Our Mall was open today and I noticed only one store closed for Good Friday. What really surprised me was that the super Christian (Tee Hee) Chick fil-A was open. That really made me wonder. Closed every Sunday, but open on Good Friday? And if your Catholic your not supposed to even eat meat today. Contrary to popular desire, chicken is still meat.

Wow! That (original, 1963, singular eatery) has CHARACTER!!! :joyfull: This is the type of small, unique, business that I miss seeing. Great little roadside stops like this used to be up here in the Northeast as well, years ago. Occasionally, you'll find a little gem hold-out from the past, but it's exceedingly rare now. I'm bored with so many of the same, franchised eateries that pervade the landscape now. Sigh . . .

Yep, I remember it bein' that way in the south, southwest, and western parts of the country that we used to mainly travel in, as well. Fun stuff! :)

I guess this would be kinda' the equivalent, these days...

I can understand how that can happen. I don't have respiratory problems but sometimes really strong smells and scents affect me too. Sometimes they trigger headaches for me. It is usually strong colognes or perfumes that I'm most bothered by.

No respiratory issues or even headaches here, but, yea, I move through cosmetic/perfume sections of stores pretty quickly, as well as detergent aisles.
Just too much all in one place.

Except the no-meat thing is not Biblical. It's a medieval Papal edict ... back when the Church was a career for the second-born son, rather than a calling.
But you already knew that. ;)

In MA, it's a mixed bag. Some grocery stores have beer and wine sales, but most grocery stores do not sell any alcohol. I rarely buy liquor to begin with, but I like the fact that the smaller liquor stores hold most of the alcoholic sales business in the state. Guess I always root for small businesses to succeed. :)

Here, grocery stores can sell only beer and wine, but, liquor stores can sell it all.
And, yes, most liquor stores around here are family owned smaller businesses, as well.
As a matter of fact, one of my "retired" ;) 82 yr. old pops gigs is workin' at a liquor store (mostly shipment - he doesn't have to do any of this stuff, mom and pop are set for life) 2 days a week.
The patriarch and matriarch of the Lebanese family that owns 3 stores are their next door neighbors. :)

I remember reading all that was; because europe was having a heavy meat shortage.
so they forced the "faithful" to eat fish and veggies. (while the top clergy and leaders scrounged all the meat for sure)

So, what's everyone's favorite treat in their Easter basket (if they normally receive one, that is). Let's see: there are those little chocolate eggs, Peeps, a tall chocolate rabbit, jelly beans, marshmallow and raspberry cream filled chocolate eggs, and candy fruit slices. My favorite every year still remains the tall chocolate Easter rabbit. :)

I love the Reese's peanut butter eggs, Cadbury cream eggs, and the Cadbury mini eggs. The reese's are my favorite.

No school for us today because of Good Friday, we get Easter Monday off this year too. So hubby and I went to see Cinderella, which was a stunning movie. Loved it, but then again I am a big Cinderella fan. Then we went to the Dairy Queen because I wanted to try the new salted caramel truffle blizzard and they were out of the supplies to make it! I had stopped at a Dairy Queen yesterday too and that DQ was out of supplies too! The girl working the counter today said that the flavor is more popular than they expected and didn't order enough supplies. Argh! The store won't have any more supplies until their shipment comes in on Monday after 3:30. I settled for a peanut buster parfait and it was tasty, but while I was eating it I could see the sign for the truffle blizzard. It was mocking me. :(

Here, liquor is only sold in gov't owned and run stores - the LCBO.
Beer is available from a huge conglomerate, aptly called The Beer Store; as well as independent micro-breweries selling their own brand. There is a law, I kid you not, that mandates that beer, even on sale, cannot be sold for less than a "buck a beer". That being said, a 2-4 will run you about $40 generally.
Wine is sold through the LCBO, and independent wineries.

Nanny State.

FYI - Cinderella is even better the second viewing.

Remember to make sure they hold the blizzard upside down to show you how thick it is. If they dont, they are supposed to give you a free blizzard. At least that's what the national commercial said.
