Wow! That (original, 1963, singular eatery) has CHARACTER!!! :joyfull: This is the type of small, unique, business that I miss seeing. Great little roadside stops like this used to be up here in the Northeast as well, years ago. Occasionally, you'll find a little gem hold-out from the past, but it's exceedingly rare now. I'm bored with so many of the same, franchised eateries that pervade the landscape now. Sigh . . .

Well, so much for the "Bible Belt" eh? In my area, businesses are open. When I was a kid in grade school, I think we got Good Friday off, and all stores were closed on Easter Sunday. Now, I believe that every business is open today in MA (including banks), even though the N.Y. Stock Exchange always shuts down on Good Friday. (However, I think that some of the investment/financial institutions here are closed due to Stock Exchange, but only those specific ones.) I know where you're coming from with your thoughts: people don't take time to smell the roses, so to speak. Everything is rushed nowadays, and quiet, reflective time appears to be somewhat a thing of the past.

The thing is that not everyone in the bible belt or anywhere else necessarily takes their marching orders from the bible. As Christians we really need to be a little more aware of the world around us. If it is a problem, then I would suspect that those that are against having these places open during those times, should be sure that they never use any of them on those days. That way, the trips to grannies and finished homework can still exist. Going to an open store or business during that time is not mandated to my knowledge. If enough stay away, the situation will automatically revert to being closed without the need for unconstitutional government controls. If it doesn't change because the demand remains, then we, as individuals just have to live within our own ethical standards and not feel that it should be forced on others.

My college is closed through Sunday. Kids are still allowed to stay on campus, though, so the library and food areas on the main campus are open. My brother had a half day yesterday, is off today, and has Spring Break next week.

Yup, normally when there's a chance of cross contamination because they don't make it in-house, they tell me it's my own risk (and usually I'm okay), but there, they say that there's way too much cross contamination and that it's not a good idea. Plus their desserts have fruits that I'm allergic to, so that just adds to the risk. I skip it and get dessert elsewhere.

There are a few places where I can't get dessert. I can't get ice cream at Beaches and Cream because they use the same scooper in the vanilla and strawberry ice cream. But then I'm fine at Boardwalk bakery. It's weird.

I know! I tried to make a joke to lighten the mood, and people wouldn't even go for that!:banghead:

C'mon people. Just because you may not like April Fools day does not mean that there are not others who enjoy it. And not everything needs to be turned into drama.
