Believe it or not, my boss offered to pay me for 3 hours off this afternoon, because many members of the mgmt. team were out the hospital today. So it's fun to log on here so EARLY and on a Friday!!! WOO HOO!!!

Some states still don't have alcohol in grocery stores. MD does not; you have to go to a liquor store to get alcohol.

In MA, it's a mixed bag. Some grocery stores have beer and wine sales, but most grocery stores do not sell any alcohol. I rarely buy liquor to begin with, but I like the fact that the smaller liquor stores hold most of the alcoholic sales business in the state. Guess I always root for small businesses to succeed.

But for a handful of restaurants and corner stores, this town will be shut down like Christmas Day tomorrow. And then again on Sunday.
All malls, banks, grocery stores, banks ... closed.
No mail delivery or garbage pick up.

I don't ever remember having Good Friday off (unless I requested it, and used vacation time), but, I've only ever worked in the private sector. I know schools were closed today. Not really sure what else.

Ehh I like good views but usually dont pay extra for it as I am not in the room that much anyways.

Let's see: there are those little chocolate eggs, Peeps, a tall chocolate rabbit, jelly beans, marshmallow and raspberry cream filled chocolate eggs, and candy fruit slices. My favorite every year still remains the tall chocolate Easter rabbit.

I'm not judging, I'm just surprised.
I'm sure merchants up here would like to be open too. It's just not an option.

You didn't live here at the time (obvi), but we didn't have wide open Sunday shopping until the summer of 1992.
I was dumbfounded the first time I was in the U.S. on a Sunday and saw all the stores and malls open.
(Don't even get me started on my shock at seeing beer and liquor in grocery stores. )

As novel as Sunday shopping was in the beginning, I honestly regret the repeal of the Lord's Day Act.

And whether you observe Saturday or Sunday or no day as the Lord's Day, it was nice to have that one day a week when there wasn't much to do.
Grandmas were visited. Homework was completed. Families spent time together.
There was just a different, almost Mayberry-like vibe to the day; except in colour, with way less-cool cars.

We have what are known, down here, as Blue (or Sunday) Laws. Years ago, in Texas anyway, most everything was closed on Sunday. I remember the malls, appliance stores, hardware stores, etc., bein' closed. Grocery stores were open, but, certain aisles were, either all or partially, roped off.
There are only 3 blue laws left here in Texas, that I know of. Car dealerships can't sell on consecutive weekend days (so, they can do Sunday, but, not Saturday if they choose ), liquor stores are closed on Sunday (the rest of the week liquor stores are open from 10a-9p), and you can only buy beer and wine between noon and midnight on Sunday.
Beer and wine can be sold out of grocery/convenience stores from 7a-midnight Mon.-Fri., 7a-1a on Sat..
The mall is open from 10a-9p Mon.-Sat., noon-6p on Sun.
The mall will be open regular Sunday hours tomorrow.

Like today, everything here will be locked up tighter than a drum on Sunday too.
If it were going to be warm, which it is not, I would consider going to the Falls on Sunday.

Our big family dinner is tomorrow. Denninger's ham, scalloped potatoes, roasted mini potatoes (my contribution), and whatever my SIL prepares - meat and veggie-wise.

Your last comment above was funny, and you have a kindred spirit up in my area, too. Every Sunday at church, I see a man with white hair and a long white beard, who always wears Christmas-themed clothes! Even in the middle of the summer, he has one red Chuck and one green Chuck, and a Christmas shirt!! (I've often thought that he must have a Christmas-seasonal job portraying Santa Claus, and maybe just took the "role" a bit too much to heart--and believes he's really Santa all year long??!!)

Hahaaa...! Love it!

Obviously, I mostly love my flip flops more than any other footwear, but, when it comes to a situation where it's appropriate for more formal attire , I LUVS me some fun Chucks!
