Buzz Lightyear - Irrelevant or Still Solid If Maintained?

Toy Story is among Disney's top franchises. With the success of Toy Story Midway Mania, has Buzz Lightyear become irrelevant?

After riding the DL version, I truly think some updated firing system system similar to Astroblasters at DL would give this the facelift it needs. The "trigger" system is so much more comfortable at DL than the thumb mashing required at WDW's version. You get fatigued and among other maintenance issues, the experience isn't as fun. Midway Mania has an ingenious "tug" system that never get tiring and is more controllable.

For you, does Midway Mania ruin the Buzz experience? Do you like it as is? Or, like me, do you feel it just needs to love?

With the proper maintenance and updated laser delivery system, I feel it's still a solid attraction on its own.

Toy Story is much more fun than Buzz, but I'm with you - I think it may just need a little TLC. It has that old-timey classic feel of a ride to it, and while part of the fun of Toy Story is zooming around to the different 'stations', I also enjoy the continuity of Buzz and the freedom you have to look around.

I totally get button-mashing fatigue! Need to hit the gym or something...

Agree...have you ridden the DL version? It's a simple trigger and I know could be retrofitted to the WDW version. MUCH easier and less fatigue.

Nope, never been to DL but I forsee it in my future! :D But I can imagine there are better ways to build that mechanism and were Buzz ever to go under refurb, that's what I'd look for.

It is definitely not irrelevant. It always has lines and people like it. I haven't been to DL, so this trigger is all I know. I like that it is different than TSMM. Everything can always use some TLC, but other than that I don't see a need to change anything.

You shouldn't be getting thumb fatigue since you only have to hold the button down. My son and I absolutely love the ride though and we max out almost every time.

After some of the disagreements we have had, I never would have guessed we would agree on anything. I agree 100% with you on Buzz Lightyear.

I still somehow feel i can do it faster with continual pushing. Holding it down is an option, but it's not as quick or as fun for me. Something about pushing that button makes you feel like you're "shooting" more than just holding it down.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
How to fix Buzz: ride MiB instead.

Honestly, though:
-Scrap the (usually broken) spinning controls altogether,
-Unmount the guns and put them on cords,
-Replace as many of the plywood cutout targets as possible with actual, full figured AAs.

And, while you're at it, do away with FP (on all omnimovers), make the queue presentable and move the Buzz AA to halfway through the queue, and fix the doors on the cars.

While I enjoy TSMM, I love shooting at ACTUAL TARGETS instead of a screen. And that drawstring gun is exhausting...

Personally I much prefer Buzz to TSMM. Rode TSMM once, and will probably never ride it again, but Buzz I try to do every trip.

I still enjoy the ride. I think it needs a overhaul cause it does feel a bit dated at this point. But as long as its still fun to do I can't complain too much.

3. I've never seen any of these broken spinner (or broken anything) problems that others have described.
To be fair, I worked the attraction, so I was well familiarized with which cars would have malfunctioning guns, stuck doors, or (most popularly, and something I noticed even as a guest) listing lazily to the left.
Buzz was rendered obsolete the day MiB opened.

Kinda like Peter Pan and E.T......
Unfortunately, Peter Pan GENERALLY has a higher nostalgia rating than ET, so, while Pan is MUCH more outdated, it can more heavily rest on the crutch of being a "classic", while ET is lombasted for being archaic. Again, that's all a generalization.

DS & I still find Buzz a fun ride and look forward to the competition it gives us. I enjoy the trigger pull or trigger hold down better than the toggle pull needed for TSM. That frustrates me out more. I think Buzz could use a touch up on the targets and the tunnel needs something better in its place but all in all I prefer Buzz over TSM.
