D23 Expo Theme Park News and Announcements

My prediction, there won't be any major news (which is what Disney has said) and thus this thread will turn into series of endless debates about Uni-vs-Disney, the cultural relevance of Avatar, whether Marvel will ever come to WDW, when construction will start of a Fifth gate, and how soon we will see a Monorail expansion. ;)

The only real things coming out of D23 is announcements on movies. I don't expect any announcements out of the WDW side at D23 based on 6 facts.

1.) There isn't a parks and resorts presentation this year at D23 unlike 2009 and 2011.

2.) Bob Iger wants to make the stockholders happy by cutting down on theme park spending on projects.

3.) Disney is dodging anything with a starting date on Avatar right now based on the questions that were asked last month.

4.) There isn't an agreement with the board yet on what will be spent on theme parks for new projects in 2014 or 2015 fiscal years yet.

5.) Nextgen is costing Disney more than Disney expected and that is affecting money putting into new projects for WDW theme parks at this time.

6.) It looks like Disney doesn't want WDI to talk a lot on future projects at D23.

I Sure hope not, I would like this thread to not turn into a uni-disney debate, but a D23 debate and news and info center.

Disney has hyped up a lot of announcements recently and we have often be disappointed in what was actually announced. With D23 they are publically downplaying and parks announcements so I can only image how little we will get.

I can't argue with you on that. There has been so much different hyped up situations when it has come to Disney Announcements.

I can already see the greedy executives sitting in their offices thinking to themselves... "D23, what a joke! These fans will buy into anything we throw at them!"

So when is that monorail expansion coming? :p

As wdwfan4ever said, I'm not expecting to hear anything parks related yet I would love to be surprised. Star Wars and the other DHS rumors sound amazing and I'd love to see some work put into that park.

Maybe they are simply using the opposite strategy... downplay any announcements so when they make the big splashy press release, it will come as a big and pleasant surprise! It could happen. Right? Right?

Oh, who am I kidding, we won't hear anything much. I'm hoping for some Avatar concept art maybe.

No. I think the MiceChat article the other day was spot on...

"the Imagineering group from Glendale will be muzzled from saying much of anything about the very real projects they’ve got coming (emphasis added) to the American parks in the next few years"

They are planning things, but won't announce until they're about ready to start construction. I'm sure Steve, Spirit, Lee and some others have an idea when, but I'll actually be shocked if it's at D23.
