New Walt Disney World logo,

It seems in 2013 Walt Disney World will be getting this new retro-informed logo as seen here. To our insiders when should we expect resort signage to reflect the new logo?

@marni1971 might know. He gave a sneak of this very logo not too long ago. I hope it stays past Limited Time Magic. I think the Sorcerer Mickey image is overused by Disney, but its enough of the classic logo which is miles away better than the Walt Disney script logo that I'll pipe down over it.

I understand why they are doing it that way. With the old logo the Globe looked a lot like Spaceship Earth so it makes sense to not bring it back for branding reasons

I have never heard that reasoning before. If you look in the D in Disneyland, Mickey is also there. So I think this is more about something specific unless they plan to change the Disneyland Resort logo as well

I really like this retro logo. I really hope this is true and sticks. :D

I heard a rumour that Disney will be dropping the word "Walt" from the resort's title and logo (as with all things referencing that word in the company) and the word "World" to better brand the resort experience. The new title? "Disney Parks Resort®", in Florida. ;)

That rumor has been circling for the better part of a decade now.

In all seriousness, I don't see a new logo change beyond what's shown on merch. They've done that with EPCOT Center based stuff too and haven't changed what the logo is out front or on the maps etc.

I would love to see this logo on brochures, guidemaps, times guides (the Master Times Guide for WDW comes to mind)

I don't know about the gates at border of WDW. How easy is it to change them???????

Notice that the Disneyland logo has the same Mickey. Simply nothing more than more of the One Disney foolishness.

I know that you are kidding...but honestly I really bet that there are MBAs in the TDO c-suite offices who have suggested this.

Have you ever seen the TV show "New Girl" on ABC with Zoey Deschanel? There is a young male character on the show in his early 30s named Schmidt who, to me, is reminiscent of every MBA I have ever met working in corporate America. These are the kinds of people who think of things like the WDW name change you joked about...and they do it because they think this would score them a promotion to the next rung of the corporate ladder.

My son works with a lot of "Schmidts" and when he's home for the holidays he just shakes his head when he tells me some of the cockamamie things these guys come up with, especially at "corporate retreats" where they feel a need to chime in with a "let's rename the park!" idea to get attention in front of all the "big wigs".

Thank you for mentioning the overuse of the Sorcerer Mickey. I've never seen anyone else express this before. It's a peeve of mine.

I actually prefer when Disney used to dress Mickey up to be "hip" in the different decades. I like Disco Mickey more than I like Sorcerer Mickey. I liked 80s Mickey (and "Totally Minnie" Minnie). I don't remember a 90s Mickey or a 2000s Mickey...just Sorcerer Mickey since then in addition to generic Mickey.

I think the Mickey-in-Contemporary-Style-Clothes variants are fun...and collectible. Sorcerer Mickey should be retired for a while so he can have a breather.

Yeah, to be perfectly honest I feel this new logo is a good sign because it seems to be signalling that people at the top are hearing that we are tired of the "Disney Parks"/"One Disney" generic branding crap. I won't say it's a sure thing until Jay Ra$ulo & Co. are gone from the company but this looks promising.

And his old boss from Strategic Planning and the number two of the guy who listened to Strategic Planning.

Then why bother designing it, If they only intend for these to be on retro-merchandise then what is the point of going through the trouble of putting the Sorcerer Mickey in the D unless they were going to put this in wide use. They have been selling retro WDW Tees for years now. I don't think they would bother to modify it if their intention is purely for retro merchandise.

Has any retro imagery appeared on the recent year-branded merchandise? My recollection is that the year-branded stuff tended to be the most strict in their conformity to the official images.
