Grizzly Gulch - Coming to WDW?

Id like to see a similar attraction in AK. something themed to North America. They really need a North American section to the park

In continuing with the "A" theme -- Africa and Asia -- I'd like to see new areas based on the "Americas" (North and South), Australia, and Antarctica. :)

So I'm joking a bit with the "A" thing, but I do think those new sections would add a lot to the park. There are plenty of interesting animals indigenous to the Americas, not to mention all sorts of marsupials from Australia. An Antarctica section could be largely indoors, and take most of its design cues from the Glacier Bay area that was planned for HKDL.

I don't object to Avatar per se, but I do think there are so many opportunities to expand DAK in really fruitful ways that are based on actual living animals.

Am I the only one that is extremely happy to see that somewhere in the world Disney is building an original theme park attraction, without a pre-existing character or movie tie in? This used to be the bread and butter of my WDW experience in the late 80's-mid 90's and it has seemingly all but went away in present times. So glad that WDI is allowed to come up with something completely original and specific to the parks again.

You're not the only one. Some of Disney's best attractions have been ones where the idea and story of the attraction have been created from whole cloth, not adapted from a pre-existing character or movie.

I'm not sure why Disney seems to be balking at the opportunity to develop more franchise-free attractions. After all, if money is the bottom line, several of these attractions have proven capable of being spun off into lucrative movies -- it's not just a one-way movie-to-ride cash flow.

But there is the risk factor in taking a chance on something completely new that no one has previously heard of versus an established story/character/world that the company already knows is very profitable. The risk-taking ended a long time ago. I think we got EE and M:S only because their parks needed "thrill" rides to help bolster attendance. Pixar and Princesses and Fairies make a ton of money. It's like the company wants the parks to be destinations just to see this characters, not to see anything "new" or unfamiliar. If Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, etc did not already exist, I'll bet you bucks that unless they had a successful movie (Pirates) we would likely not have these rides built today with their current philosophy.

I agree and I think this is what makes a number of people on here (including me) extremely sad - some even a little angry. That a company that was able to create such an enormous creative legacy seems to stop being creative (at least within the parks) and just keeps re-using the IP they have created so far.

I think that's why there is this strong interest in Grizzly Gulch - the hope to get something that is new content.

I think people will be pleasantly surprised by DL's next new attraction ... no toons, no franchises ... if those Marvel creatures stay the heck out of Walt's park (or possibly even if they do appear!):) ... Can I state that I HATE the new smileys? I am lost without my Dr. Evil and king and .... sigh .....

Disneyland actually getting an attraction NOT based on a franchise??? When is the last time that happened? :)

That sounds fantastic!! When I was writing my post, I was actually thinking about whether those DL attractions you, Lee and and Martin hinted at would be original. But in a way it makes it even more frustrating for WDW. WDI still appears to be able to create something original - they just aren't allowed to do so in WDW. (And yes, I miss the old smileys, too - now the one with the head against the wall would be very fitting... :()

The ride is a marriage of the Everest concept and the BTMRR concept...

I don't see it ever making it to WDW... or DLR for that matter..

I had a thought to what the attraction was going to be but now that you've said this I now have know clue.
