Via Napoli - Really? Really?

Ok... first off, I have had some amazing pizza in my life. Whether it be the North End here in Boston or Little Italy with my family down in NYC I have had the pleasure of consuming some amazing pies in my day.

Now I come to Via Napoli... the pizza is good, I cannot bash the food. 28 dollars for a large (just cheese!)! I almost choked!

Anyone else taken back by this?

This will sound funny - I wish SOMEONE, in Midland MI, would sell me a $28 Pizza with something othar than Oxygen on it :). We would never go to WDW & get Pizza, but once in a while I would like a GOOD one.

The pizza is as good as any joint up here or NYC... its that good. But it's 28 dollars for a cheese and 2 bucks a topping, thats an amazingly heafty price.

Yeah it's definitely expensive, no doubt. But when I went, three of us ate the pizza. And you figure, even a burger combo is like $8-9. So three people eating for $9/person isn't really outside about what you'd pay at a counter service location. It's also a lot tastier.

So yes, it's overpriced for a pizza in the "real" world but it's not outside the range of pricing per person anywhere else in the parks.

This is a common argument, but like people have said that $28 dollars is usually between 3 people. The price is high for a pizza, but it is Disney and the prices are high on all the food because of where you are. If I go to one of the restaurants in the Mexian Pavilian the meal will easily cost me 10 dollars more than it would at a local mexican restaurant. That being said, in my 2 trips to Via Napoli three people were able to get sodas, an appetizer to share, a large one topping pizza, and a dessert to share for $20 per person with the tip and TIW discount. To me that isn't a bad deal at all considering I am in Disney.

To compare a price of any item at Disney to your local price is not a fair comparison. Regardless of where you are from $28 is expensive for pizza, however, you just aren't paying for dough and cheese.

At my local pizza joint I can get a great margarita pizza for about $20. So yes it is cheaper, however, you are not just paying for food when you eat at Disney. You are paying for an experience. At my local pizza place the "chef" wears a white undershirt, cooks my pizza in a basic pizza oven and serves me my food on paper plates. At Via Napoli the servers wear costumes, the ceilings are 20 ft high with blown glass chandeliers. Never mind the giant sculpted wood fired pizza ovens. The extra $8 pays for atmosphere.

So when in Disney I expect to pay more for food not because the food is better but because of the other items I don't get at home. I can get a $5 hamburger at home that is much better then the Sci-Fi Dine In but it is not served to me in a car in a mock drive in. This holds true for 90% of Disney restaurants.

In my opinion you are paying for the whole experience. Overhead costs on Disney restaurants is much greater then your local restaurant.

It's subjective though , when I'm involved no way 3 people are eating that pizza . I pounded 4 slices easy

It is all very subjective! Even food reviews on this site crack me up. Some people love to say everything is terrible while I can say I have never had a bad meal even at counter service. Costs for food are also subjective.

I would object to paying one price for a Domino's pizza, but gladly put down $29.00 for a large pizza at a local place here in downtown Atlanta called Antico that is amazing. I have had NY pizza and it beats it. I bet people from NY would say no way.

I am often amused how debated costs, etc. are debated on this site, because at the end of the day, it is a vacation-not required by law. Disney vacations are never cheap--a good value--highly debated here.

My advice for everyone-don't read the reviews. Look at the menus, look at the prices-decide what you want to eat. If spending money at WDW upsets you, it is really probably not your ideal vacation spot.

That being said, my family of four have ressies at Via Napoli in June-we are on the counter service plan, so, dropping cash for VN. We know the $48 dollar pizza with a shared app, drinks, tax and tip is going to come close to $80-100 or more. Is it worth it? Actual food costs-no. Experience, atmosphere and good times shared by my family-absolutely!!

And BTW, due to times of year attending and DVC-have never had free dining-always paid-always will-don't regret a dime!

I think that because we are thinking it is "only pizza", which is basically baked bread with tomato sauce and cheese spread on it, versus burgers which are bread (bun), meat or poultry, plus veggies, and fries, so this makes the price become an issue. Granted the pizza probably is very tasty (I haven't had it yet , and we come from RI so I don't expect it to blow me away) but I would much rather have baked stuffed shrimp or lobster, which is not going to happen, but I can dream!.

We went in Feb. and got 1 large pizza and 1 kids pizza among other things. Both pizzas came out burnt, I am talking ultra black on one end. Obviously someone forgot to spin them. We weren't at all impressed with the taste of the unburnt side. Apparently Italians don't put any spices in their sauces, simply tomato. Pretty bland to say the least. No desire to return. We'll stick with Le Cellier.

$28 was a bargain. We were there a few months back and ordered a large (the largest one they have) and asked for half pepperoni and half sausage. The full pepperoni was $41 so we assumed half and half would be the same price and were never told differently. When we got the bill, we were charged an additional $2 for the other topping. Everywhere I have ever ordered from charges for 1 topping when you do half and half. The extra $2 was more of a principle thing than anything since we were already paying so much to begin with. When it was brough up to the manager, he basically said that's the way it is. Not very understanding about how rediculous it was to charge even more than an already very high price.

As far as taste and quality, it was ok, not great at all and not work $43. I am from NY/NJ so am a bit spoled by good pizza, however, I now live in FL and even though I don't think the pizza here is as good as NY, I have found several places with great pizza which is far better than this $43 pizza. I know it's Disney property but that much for a pizza is way too high even for a restaurant on their property.

We went right when it opened in August and we were on the dining plan but paid cash. There was 4 of us and we shared a large pizza and two appetizers as well as for of their fruit drinks. The meal was great. Probably the best LUNCH I've had at Disney, but yeah the price is astronomical compared to what your used to paying for around here. On the flip side, what isn't pricey at the World?

Anyway, the food was great and the service was great. It was a good time but not something I'd shell out the money for on every trip.

We paid for Via Napoli out of pocket last year since we didn't have enough DDP credits and are doing the same this year. I don't think the cost is out of line since it feeds 4 of us. Like it was said before is is subjective. For us is works out well.

Unless, of course, you are there solo, which is usually my case. Then 28 bucks for a meal becomes obscenely expensive! (Not that I could eat an entire pizza anyway). Which is why I like the "by the slice" option (and yes, I know it's not the "real" Via Napoli pizza) ;)

The pizza I had was phenomenal. I would pay $28 for one of those with no questions if I was not on Free Dining.

Ditto. And I'd smack my momma, too, if I had to. The quattro formagio was freakin' awesome!

You need to adopt a random family to share expenses. I volunteer mine. Good stuff! :slurp:

But you could eat solo and get an individual pizza for $16 which is right in line with any other meal in Disney.

Also, for the price conscious people...You can eat at Pizzeria Uno outside of Disney and get an individual thin crust pizza for 10.99. So for 5 dollars more you get a much better pizza and it is in Epcot. I don't see that as being all that terrible when you put it in perspective and factor in the quality of ingredients.
