Jimmy Thick's state of the parks...

I recently just returned from an amazing vacation at Disney World. Here are some of my observations.

* The recent ignorance about Disney's lack of customer service, or poor customer service is complete ya ya. I never had a moment where it was not up the the extremely high standards I have come to expect.

* The Mickey's Christmas Party is a must do if you go down in December, it is, simply put, the best ticketed event Disney has to offer. Any questions about people without wristbands getting to stay in the park are moot. Each attraction had the friendly cast member and the one who would not take no for an answer if you did not have a wristband. Plus there were cast members placed throughout the park asking for wristbands or forcing you to leave. It was handled wonderfully. The only thing I found odd was the fact people were lining up for the free hot chocolate and cookies BEFORE the party started. Seriously, these lines were longer that the wait for Soarin' during spring break. The hot chocolate was good and creamy, and for sale in a special tin, but not good enough to wait an hour or so for.

* The busiest restaurant is not LeCellier. Its not Coral Reef or Chef Mickey. The busiest place to eat, by a large margin is O' Hana. I made a 6 pm reservation and was seated at 5:50, another person, who's group was the same size as mine, 4 people, made a reservation at 6:05 and did not ge seated until 6:50. I don't know how that worked out, but asking my server she told me O' Hana is by far the busiest restaurant on property.

* Want a great place to eat that has the best food in the whole resort? Try Kouzzina by Cat Cora. The service was decent, but the food was amazing. I ate there 3 times on a 13 day trip, and would have ate there every night. Seriously, eat there now while it's still only one dining plan credit, as I feel it won't be for long.

* Busiest ride on property is Toy Story Midway Mania. Fastpasses are gone by 9am, waits are in the 90 to 120 minute range. Longest Soarin' queue I saw was 70 minutes.

* The new attraction app for smart phones is a must have.

* The Osborne Lights was amazing.

* The new Bay Lake Tower is everything that is amazing about the Disney experience. I also toured most of the resorts to see the X-Mas decorations and to say Disney does not go all out is an understatement. I also see why they took down those lighted arches in Epcot, they were taking away from the majesty of the tree. With them gone, you focus on the tree more.

* The parks were packed, almost all the attractions had wait times. The Donald ride in Mexico had a huge wait. Captain EO had no one in it, further proof when Disney Kills an attraction, they do it for a reason. The Captain should have stayed gone.

* I found another impressive quick service restaurant, Cooke's of Dublin is on the dining plan and has some pretty tasty offering beyond the burgers and fries that run rampant.

All and all, it was a great vacation, and worth the money, I'll be going back in February.

Jimmy Thick- No, its still magical, try going there!

Nobody eats at O'Hana.

Lots of people eat at 'Ohana

The night we were there, it was freezing cold and I never saw any cast members checking wrist bands, but the party wasn't sold out and the Magic Kingdom wasn't crowded either. I didn't see anyone standing in line for hot chocolate - it was just walk up to the counter for service, and that was awesome!

I'm guessing you and this other person had reservations in advance? Because trying to add on a reservation at any of the parks was next to impossible. We were able to get a same-day reservation at Kona for something like 8:45 or 9:45 pm (no thanks) but there were no same day reservations available at Ohana, or practically anywhere else we wanted to eat, so we went counter service for the meals we didn't make a reservation prior to leaving on our trip.

Agreed the food was great and the wait staff service was decent. The personal service from the chef checking on our food allergies was outstanding.

Heading for the great escape.
Good old Jimmy still full of it.

Im sure my daughter would only be too happy to challenge your assertion that all is well with Disney Guest relations and service delivery. As Id guess would all the guests who experienced check in difficulties at SSR when we were there but if you employ moaning Brits about how tough they have it because they've had to move location for a week or two what do you expect. Gross generalisations got ta love them especially in the third person.

Yes, I remember all the people lined up to see HISTA. That's exactly why most people here went to epcot in the first place, to be one of maybe 5 other people to see HISTA. Haha, please.

so, because your daughter had a bad experience then the whole system is flawed? we go for 8-10 days at a time when we go, if I had a whole day ruined because of something disney did, I'm pretty sure I'd come back with nothing bad to say. stuff happens.

When I was there, it was way too cold to sit outside. Totally agree the food was great, and its on the dining plan. The only bad thing I can think of was the rationed the malt vinegar.

This is so true about the chef checking on people with food allergies. When I ate there, I noticed the chef, the same guy, checking in with 2 different parties, and he was so patient and made sure everyone was happy.

Jimmy Thick- Man I want the steak they have there...

Good for you, maybe if I went for such a short time Id be prepared to put up with minor irritations, however I think loosing your wedding cake is worthy of a negative comment.

You do sound the sort of person Disney love to cater to.

More food-stuff highlights from my trip.

* Best service at any restaurant by far was from Leonardo at Tutto Italia Ristorante in Epcot. He, along with a tall guy with a buzz cut wearing glasses were the best servers hands down. I went back 3 days later and requested to be sat in his section and he totally remembered my groups names and treated us like royalty. I also recommend the casarecci, if I was not such a gentleman, I would have licked the bowl.

* Hollywood and Vine is a take it or leave it for me. The food was average at best, but the shows they do with the characters and a couple plump singers was really fun for the kids.

* Speaking of buffets, the best on property is still Boma, and Boma is the only place with a good breakfast.

* Word is out on Earl of Sandwich, when they pull out the black queue roping at lunch time, yeah, your going to wait.

* Had a good time at Germany, but a funny story. As they seat you homestyle, the plates do tend to pile up. Our server, a nice young man, picked up two handfuls of plates and 4 of those little glass tankards in one hand. One of those glasses was half full with chocolate milk. As he set himself, the glass with the milk shifted and started spilling on the floor, and our server, the poor guy, froze because to fix the problem he would have had to put everything down. As the milk puddle started getting huge, our table was surrounded by 5 of the German pavillion's finest females helping the poor guy out. As things got organized again, that huge puddle was cleaned up by what had to be the best looking waitress in the whole restaurant, watching her work gave ole Jimmy a Joey Lawrence "Woah" moment, if you know what I mean.

* Everyone was civil at all the places we ate at, except LeCellier. That was the only place where people got testy about being seated. People, the food is good, but nothing to get upset about.

More later...

Jimmy Thick- I eat like a king.
