Obviously with this being a WDW site people are going to be biased on where the best vacation spot in the continent is but I thought I would do a poll anyways and I am sure some of you have been to these places. Bottom line is where is the best place to go in North America for you? This poll is inspired by a friend of mine who had a discussion with me about other hot vacation spots other than Orlando and whether they are better or not.

- There's of course Orlando with WDW, Universal Parks, Sea World etc.
- There's Anaheim/LA/Hollywood which is all in the same area and has Disneyland, California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farms, Universal Studios and Hollywood in general
- There's Vegas
- There is New York City, nuff said
- There is New Orleans which I have never been to
- There is Niagara Falls which I live near and is much like a mini vegas, with two Casinos, the Falls and all the attractions down the main street like the scariest Haunted Houses I've ever been through
- There is Toronto with Canada's Wonderland nearby and stuff like the CN Tower, Science Centre, Toronto Zoo, Hockey Hall of Fame

Sorry I couldn't think of any others that could remotely compare to the Orlando area. So suffice to say my friend and I had a short conversation on whether or not Orlando is worth it. But since I have only been to some of these places I can only judge on my part. I haven't been to Vegas, New Orleans or Anaheim. But while the other 4 are great none compares to the Orlando area

With the 4 parks, USF, IoA, new Legoland, Sea World, tropical atmosphere, and all the other great features I really love Orlando and must support it.

I'm kind of partial to where I live right now. Southern California has endless things to do, a perfect climate year-round, and an incredible landscape. Go an hour one for snow and skiing, an hour another way for desert, an hour another way for beaches. You really can't go wrong here and there's something for everyone. So that's going to be my choice.

However, the best vacation I've ever taken was when I moved here from NC and we drove literally from the Atlantic to the Pacific. We saw the Rocky Mountains, Arches National Park, Zion National Park, the Lake Powell, and the Grand Canyon...and all of them were mind-blowing. I hope that everyone who is like me and likes to take a vacation to be "entertained" (theme parks, elaborate hotels, shows, dining, cruises, etc.) will also at one time in their life break away from that and see some of the natural wonders this country has to offer. I say that being the most apathetic person on the planet when it comes to "the great outdoors".

Fair enough. By the way Edmonton is beautiful too. My wife has been there and there's the Rocky Mountains and the West Edmonton Mall which alone is worth the visit. But she liked Orlando better, and I still take Orlando from where I have been so far

My favourite vacation spot use to be Niagara Falls........until we went to Florida and WDW in March of 2005! Since then, I have this urge to keep returning to the Orlando area every 2 years! :ROFLOL:

Well I've never been to any of the ones listed. California I imagine is chock full of great places to see. We enjoy simplicity also by just going to the Outer Banks of NC and we enjoy going to Memphis, TN with the nearby casinos. The Orlando area offers a lot in a close area.

Wow, for me this is a toughie! I love to travel! I don't think I've ever been on any vacation that I didn't enjoy.

I've only been to 4 of the places listed, and I'd have to rank them in this order:
1. NYC - wish I could afford to keep a small apartment there and visit whenever I wanted. Ahh, dreamy dreams.....
2. Orlando - wonderful vacation destination for this point in my life when I want as much interaction with my growing kids as possible
3. Vegas (baby) - another place I really enjoyed and where unlimited funds would be a major plus, but can get kinda depressing when you're on a budget (when you run out of money for gambling, shopping and the spa, it's totally boring)
4. New Orleans - loved it in college and as a young adult, but as a middle aged mom of two? not so much. However, if Auburn gets back to the Sugar Bowl.... I'm totally there.

Also, I would add in Washington DC as a great place to take a family vacation. IMHO, a very important place to take your kids at least once.

None of the above for me. Washington DC may be lousy for politics regardless of your political viewpoint, but it is a great place to visit as a tourist. Most of the museums and attractions are free, the restaurants are nice, the hotels are great, and the transportation is simple. Further, places close to the city such as Mount Vernon make for great side trips.

For a historical and "city" trip, I wholeheartedly agree. I go up to DC usually once a year to hit the museums, watch a couple of ballgames, and visit some of the battlefields in the area....

I also enjoy the Boothbay region of Maine. I haven't been for a few years, but it's less crowded than the more southern areas (Portland, Lake Sebago), but it's just as beautiful and the lobster is just as plentiful. :sohappy:

Depends on what kind of Vacation you want.

You want nature? The real World? I'd recommend the Grand Canyon and AZ.

You want History? The Big City? Culture? NYC , Washington or Philly?

Entertainment? WDW. Duh.

You left out a lot of beaches.
Also mountains.
And canyons and ski areas.

WDW does not attract a lot of the people who prefer outdoors type vacations instead of theme parks.

Orlando wins for me. I also love Vegas, and the entire state of California. Took a trip last fall to San Francisco, and then drove down the coast. We stopped at Carmel, Big Sur, Anaheim, Hollywood and then over to Vegas. That is hard to compete with, but I still love Florida the most. :)
