Mission: Space...was it hyped?

Ooh. Good analogy...but just a blip?! I really don't think that it was that. It might have not been Walt's Gift to Themed Entertainment, (:lookaroun) but, it was special. There's a reason for all the hype the concerns it now. While it might be overplayed, it was pretty damn good, and pretty close to the meaning and theme of EPCOT Center.
I would say more than a blip as well but the harsh reality is that it was a great attraction with story that gave it a very short half life. Rides about the future always never seem to have much of one.

It was a great attraction....my favorite in Epcot....but all the hype/nostalgia have built it up way past what the attraction ever actually was. The only comparison I can think of would be King Tutankhamun. He is the most well known Egyptian Pharaoh. This is not because he was of any real importance. His popularity is entirely due to the fact that his tomb was the most intact when it was discovered and not because he really did anything special. In historical terms, Tutankhamun is of only moderate significance, primarily as a figure managing the beginning of the transition from the heretical Atenism of his predecessor Akhenaten back to the familiar Egyptian religion. In a nut shell....He was not much more than a blip in Egyptian history.

I would have to agree with this. It WAS great, but it just wasn't the all-time ultimate theme park experience people make it out to be.

So has Horizons...much like Heath Ledger...only become fully appreciated in death? Part of the Horizons "myth" seems to rest on the fact that Disney had the stones to demolish it, as much as on any quality of the ride itself.

Perhaps, but I always seem to remember it having a steady line, at least IN the building.

Like I've said before, Horizons is to EPCOT like The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are to the Magic Kingdom.

Mission: SPACE has its problems, more than Horizons did, but it is still a superb EPCOT Adventure. The two pavilions would have coexisted and complemented each other extraordinarily well.

Thats my point IMO MS is not good enough to be a stand alone attraction. Now take the same ride built behind Horizons and instead of MArs you are headed to Brava Cenatri then you got a ride

Exactly. Just as JII and WoM, were, too. And they are all gone. The basis for EPCOT's original success, it's CLASSICS, are gone. I can't fathom that, sometimes.

M:S would have been perfect for FWWest. Architecture and all.

Horizons was great.

So is M:S and it's a prefect EPCOT attraction, not to mention the most advanced theme park simulator on the planet.

Don't hate.

Okay..i will admit that i don't 'hate' M:S....but the problem i have with it is that unlike previous 'Classic EPCOT' attractions, this one does not 'INSPIRE' me in anyway.

I mean....where is the inspiration? When i leave M:S after riding it..i come away with nothing in a sense. In the past, one used to come away from a attraction experience with a sense of self-empowerment or motivation. Perhaps it was just me...but i really miss that feeling with the newer attractions.
