New AK VP Soon

She's a nice lady. Always treated the cast members well when I worked with her (she was a manager at Safaris at the time).

This doesn't really strike me as a lateral move though, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm not familiar with the upper management structure of WDW.

Actually, I think Val usually gets good marks from the "D&G crowd." I like how they made a point to put in there that it was a voluntary move. Wonder why they didn't do that for Jim?

It is interesting news...maybe something new for DAK! (I am also unfamiliar with the higher management).

By the way, what does TDO mean...Team Disney Operations????

Perhaps because she is stepping "down" into a position of less authority?

Oh by the way, good to see that link in your sig MousDad!

I noticed somebody mentioned she is "nice". Sometimes a person can be too nice, especially in a large operation, for their own good. I'm sure we will get some better insights into the matter from our well informed insiders soon. Could also be that something big is coming to that resort and they feel she is the right person for the job.

Is she one of the people the D&G "insiders" don't appreciate at TDO?

Also I'm wondering if this is the first domino in a larger realignment.

I don't have any specific complaints about her, but I think maintance has kind of fallen on her watch. However, that might not be all her fault.

Yeah that was me that said she was nice. I guess I should specify and say that she was pleasant. I never did anything wrong so I can't say how she is when you cross her. She did try to reprimand me when they changed the time clock procedures between summers. I explained my side and she threw it away.

Suprised this hasn't been talked about. Not sure where she ranks on the TDO scale for all the D&G folks like WDW74.

So with JR spending time on that project in the 50th state and a new VP coming to DAK, do any of the insiders care to shed any light on the possible impact to AK?

Man, you've got a big time crush on '74. What's the matter do you miss him while he's been on vacation.

^^Seriously...:dazzle::brick:

I think he is serious

The D&G's are a bit off balance lately. I love how they are suddenly so "matter of fact" now that the FL makeover is probably a reality including multiple new rides for the MK. I predicted 1 ride in the next 5 years and got flamed by them. Even the Skyway demo is being denied by some of them.

Oh well. I can't be bothered with those that wan't to wallow in their little worlds of pretend. Anyone got any pics of all the stuff going on in Tomorrowland?

I would be interested in hearing more on this as well. It would seem she took a demotion from the head of a theme park to the head of a hotel. Not sure how the structure works out though. Like someone said it could be lateral but it sure doesn't seem that way.

I don't know if I am considered a D&G, but I've been busy working for the Sheriff since last week.

I think he definitely missed me ... but even though I am back from WDW, I am still 'on vacation' for most of the month and I don't intend to spend it sparring with JT (although I can't help but notice how his opinions change like the wind ... one of his posts on -- I believe -- the F-Land thread seemed to be the exact same thing I have said since I started talking about the staleness of the MK ... anyway ...)

I do know about the power structure at Disney and how jobs are viewed.

And moving from DAK VP to GM of a moderate resort (even the combined PO, which is a huge complex) is a demotion. And, no, she didn't likely ask for it anymore than any of the execs ever ask to be demoted or leave the company to spend time with their families etc ...

I don't know the woman well. I do know that on her watch DAK's Ops have fallen to MK level (internally most folks consistenly will tell you that EPCOT and Studios are run the best by far). Considering she was MK's GM before being promoted into this job, that's not surprising.

I can tell you that DAK has been dirtier on her watch and has more show quality issues than it ever did when Dr. Beth was in charge. Even simple things have been issues ... from the way vehicles are dispatched on Dinosaur (ruining the ending) to the fact the men's room door next to the kennels is rotting away and you could put your put through it to the fact there's more gum on the pavement than I have ever seen to the fact that the only place at WDW I had 'issues' with AC on this trip was in DAK's shops, where it was so hot and sticky I couldn't figure out how this couldn't possibly be hurting business.

So, I'll be glad she's moving to a position where she can do less damage.

This could be a great move depending on who takes over for her, but I'll repeat for the umpteenth time that attraction-wise, nothing new is coming to DAK for years ... that's why Joe Rohde is working on Oahu and HK projects.

To end on a positive, though, I heard a lot of good things about the jobs Dan Cockerell and Rilous Carter are doing running their parks, the latter despite edicts from above to cut hours and entertainment to absurd summer levels.

It really seems like those parks are in good hands right now. If DAK gets someone of quality, then only the Phil 'problem' will still exist at the VP level.
