New Park? What is Disney up to?

Some of you might have seen this today..I have not seen mention of it anywhere else on here. But, give it to Jim Hill, he does his research sometimes.

Take a look at his most recent article talking about recent Internet doman registrations Disney received in June. They grabbed a bunch of iterations all revolving around www.disneyimaginationpark.com.

Who knows why they grabbed these...maybe it will be a new online community/virtual world like their hugely successful Princess virtual world. Or, maybe just to protect from others grabbing a name close to their own. Or, maybe they have grander plans (An Imagineering park...that would have possibilities, wouldn't it?!?) Not arguing any scenario, but very interesting, indeed.

I hate 5th gate there is just no need at all for one, there is already too much to do in WDW. I would much rather have Disney plus the parks they already have and see them add a third gate in DL.

Imagination Park sounds like a future movie or maybe a video game...

I seriously doubt we're talking about a 5th gate here.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I'm sure SOMETHING will come of it.
No fifth gate, though.

Just think, someday we'll all be talking about SIXTH gate rumors...

I find this very interesting. Why would you register a domain unless you have plans, long or short term, for using it? And, why would you register the domain unless you already had a name for it. Just very interesting.

I wouldnt call it a 5th gate by any stretch. Could be something smaller and maybe not even in Anaheim or Orlando.

Too many variables, but very interesting none the less.

To sell it to someone who actually wants to use it?

That seems to be the most realistic possibility. Maybe some sort of a Disney 2nd Life.

It does sound like maybe another MMO or some type of online game. I thought I remember reading years ago that they had enough money set aside for 6 or 7 online games. Pirates, Fairies, Cars, Club Penguin, ???, ???, ???

If anyone is wondering about those two odd domains, they were registered by ABC, Inc. so it must be something with a TV show.

I agree with everyone about the 5th gate. Still an interesting filing though. Maybe Disney filed it just to get people riled up on this site. haha

Anyway, I agree that I do not know why anyone wants a 5th gate. Now, I have been to WDW many, many times, so it is a little easier for veterans to skip an attraction or show or whatever that they already have done on a previous trip. But, honestly, for a family on their first visit, 4 parks, 2 water parks, and the many other things going on down there, it is really overwhelming (especially with most trips being 5 to 7 days) and a supposed 5th park might actually push people over the edge.

I would also rather see them focus on the places in each park we all know they could improve/replace and use all the extra land they have in each park to expand into before ever considering a 5th gate.

Nonetheless, an interesting filing, so I thought I would share. Did you know that Fairies virtual world has something like 15 million users or so worldwide? It is pretty advanced and great for kids. Maybe, it is expansion of these concepts.

I think all their online worlds are probably doing well. Pirates hit the pirate fans, Cars is going to hit younger boys, Fairies hit the girls, Club Penguin hits all kids in general. I wonder (if) this was another MMO what age group they would be after. 16/17+? I've played a new MMO called FreeRealms by sony. An extremely in-depth lively 3D MMO using state of the art technology. Would love to see a concept of that applied to a park-based or park-style MMO. The world is in a digital age.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were going to be used as sites in a tv show. Many companies are registering the sites they use so that someone else doesn't after the fact. Example - CSI, episode where they are investigating Lady Heather's web business, that URL was really functioning at that time. Was a dummy site, that would kick you to the CSI site. But much better than ending up at a real Lady Heather PRwise at least.

Even though there's absolutely no freaking way it is, part of me reeeaaaallllyyyy hopes this "Imagination Park" has something to do with Figment.

Never thought about that but it's way more plausible than a 5th gate. Maybe they would open up that pavilion and just rename it Imagination Park or something. With a Dreamfinder Meet N Greet. :lookaroun

these are to get the singles to come to wdw for the new "pleasure Island":ROFLOL:
Both of those names are registered through ABC, so I'm guessing they're web addresses used in TV shows in the next season. It's pretty much standard for companies to do that now.
