WDW and Coca-Cola Products?

WDW serves Coke products and I was just wondering if they have always served coke products?

Don't really know the veracity of this but it makes for an interesting story...

Rumor has it that "during the first two weeks of Walt Disney World's operation, the Pepsi-Cola Co. was in fact the sponsor. On the second weekend of WDW being open, they ran out of soda. So Disney contacted the Pepsi-Cola offices and tried to place an order for more soft drinks to be delivered as soon as possible. Well the person in charge at Pepsi said that because it was the weekend, they wouldn't be able to ship anything until the following Monday.

So then Disney contacted The Coca-Cola Co. The person in charge at Coke gave the same information that due to the weekend, all the truck divers were at home. However, this person decide to go above and beyond what the Pepsi-Cola guy was willing to do. The Coke guy actually called all the drivers at home, and got them to ship all the soda the next day. So after that, Disney signed a multi-million dollar contract with Coke. Needless to say, the guy in charge at Pepsi got fired."

I am pretty sure that Pepsi was in WDW at one time. I have seen several WDW Promotional items with the Pepsi logo on them and I know for a fact that Pepsi had the contract for all of the ESPN zones and Disney Quests across the country back in 1998.

Yep, Pepsi was there for some time. Pepsi used to have a big logo on Pecos Bills. I believe they may have sponsored the Country Bears at some point but don't quote me on that.

The Country Bears was also sponsored by Pepsi. Here's the Quote from Walt Dated World

"Wonder Bread replaced Pepsi Cola as the sponsor in 1975. Strangely, Henry the bear continued to announce, “Just refrain from hibernatin’... and we’ll all enjoy the show, cause we got a lot to give!”—a reference to Pepsi Cola’s 1969-1973 slogan, “You’ve go a lot to live, Pepsi’s got a lot to give!”

So explain the sponsorship change if you please...:wave:
The story in question is a straight cut and paste from the Snopes message board. The poster on Snopes is basically asking if it is true or not. I have no conformation one way or another but if I was a betting man I would classify it is untrue for no other reason then it simply sounds way to story book to be true. Reality is rarely as interesting and as well scripted as that story. If I had to guess why sponsorship changed I would guess that the contract went ran out, Disney put it up for bid and Coke came in with a better deal. It is no where near as interesting as story in question but I'll wager that it is much closer to the reality of the situation.
