this might be a stupid topic, but i have seen the merchndise for american idol on another website, and would like to say i just think the name should have been more global than american idol.As a guest from the uk, i wouldnt want to wear anything back in england that had american idol all over, why would i? and im sure guests from ther countries would feel the same. when the idol series was on in the uk it was just called 'pop idol' which had a more universal feeling to ip. they should stuck to that 'pop idol' or 'sing idol', or something, i wont be buying any of it. sorry disney.what does any one else think spec uk people?

I'm pretty sure if I went to London on a vacation I would want to buy souvenirs that referenced Great Britain. Why would I want to buy American souvenirs when I'm not in America? Can't you buy Pop Idol souvenirs at home? Maybe when Disney opens WDW - Liverpool they can have a Pop Idol attraction.

While I am not a fan of the attraction overall, I think that the only thing it has going for it is the name. People will not be coming for what it is really, but rather for what it is named. People will see American Idol and get excited. Then, considering American tourists outnumber the tourists from the rest of the world, I think it makes perfect sense.

Because Pop Idol is the name of the British version. All of the spinoffs that came after have been named after the country they are hosted in (eg. American Idol, Australian Idol, Latin American Idol, Canadian Idol, Idols West Africa, Indian Idol, Indonesian Idol, New Zealand Idol, etc). If they were all named "Pop Idol", how would a person viewing your T-shirt know which one you visited?

And isn't the only reason that it wasn't 'British Idol' because they thought it sounded too similar to British Isles?

Also being from the UK, I have no problems with the name American Idol, after all it's based on American Idol, not Pop Idol, and alot of people myself included, know about American Idol

No

Nope, it was Pop Idol because it was the first show, there was no need to distinguish it to the specific country because there were no other countries doing it. When it was a success, they basically sold the franchise worldwide and made themselves very rich.

As a tourist I would want to buy merchandise that reflected what I had seen, in this case, American Idol. Remember, its a specific attraction to the Studios, not just a generic brand.

The show hasn't been on in the UK in years anyway, Simon Cowell left to go start X-Factor because he wanted more creative control.

I wonder if the blurb on the foreign language Maps will reference that American Idol Experience is the equivalent to the version(s) that are correct for that country. Perhaps add some familiarity for overseas guests who might like to go watch?
It might not be needed, the singing concept might be enough to make guests aware that American Idol is 'xxxx' Idol and so forth...
Jus a thought.

Plus, the "prize" that the daily winner gets is a guaranteed audition with a producer for American Idol the TV show. It wouldn't be very good synergy if they named it something totally different.

The attraction is the "American Idol Experience", aka the experience you would have if you were on "American Idol", not the experience you'd get on Canadian, Pop, Indonesian or any other version of Idol.

(who has no intention of seeing this show when he's down there in June, and just realized that the acronym "AIE" is VERY appropriate! AIEEEE!!!!!!!)
