Rebranding Pop Century?

I'm wondering if this move may be for competition sake- Like trying to offer something along the lines of Nickelodeon Family Suites. That hotel is relatively close to Pop Century. I am wondering if the "plussing" to a moderate resort would include a waterslide/mini-water park?;)

WDW should not rebrand Pop Century, but should finish or redevelop the "Legendary Years" plot so it's not sitting like a decaying ghost town.

I'm having a hard time believing that Pop's occupancy rate is lagging that far behind the others. If it is, I'm not so sure that has to be because of it's theming. How does Disney approach group bookings? It's possible that there is an inherit bias towards putting them in the All Stars, which would account for the difference in occupancy.

I have stayed at Pop and AS Music and Movies and by far, at least when I was there, Pop was so much busier. I just went in Feb, during school vacation and my daughter and I stayed at ASMusic and it seemed empty. There were schools there for the cheerleader events too and I hardly saw anyone. Although we did hear a bunch of cheerleaders early in the morning cheering out on the lawn, which did not make me happy! I don't get how they can say that Pop is never busy. I have stayed there many times and every time was busy. Anyway, they should not make it a moderate because people do need to save money especially now, and that would not make much sense.

By the way, as someone stated above, how Disney does not book large groups at Pop and that may be why they aren't busy, no offense but I go to Pop for that reason. I have a 17 yr old daughter and a 13 yr old stepdaughter and my husband and I are only 37 and 38 but we do not want to have to deal with the huge groups that they do book there. My kids don't want to either because kids in large groups do tend to be obnoxiuos sometimes, not all of them, but a lot of them. They do need another value resort that families can go to without having to worry about the large groups, so hopefully they will leave it alone.

Like everyone else said, just make the Legendary Years the new Animation Suites. Why redo something that is already done when the buildings for the others are already there too, just finish them the way they want to for that resort.

For those who will give me crap about me not staying at the resorts that book large groups and how I stayed there anyway and said ASMusic was dead, it happened to be dead when we were there and we only stayed there because it was my daughter's birthday trip and she wanted to stay in the country bldg in Music. We had stayed at Pop the 3 times prior to this trip so she didn't want to go there again...:)

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps Disney got a look at Nick's occupancy numbers and figured they would have an easier time filling an animation themed resort than a resort themed to decades that most of their visitors weren't even alive for? I too think this re-theme would only apply to the unfinished portion of Pop.

In looking at the unfinished portion of Pop Century and deciding exactly what to do with it, they are probably also wrestling with the question of how to tie it in, or not, with the existing portion of the resort across the lake.

I honestly think that this would be a dumb idea. I like the theme of pop, and its my favorate WDW resort. I like the fact that it doesnt share busses, and even though if and when they finish the other part, it would. I still think retheming it wont really help much as far as occupency. They already have all star movies, they can add more to that and make more animation buildings over there. Why change pop for it. I guess, I wouldnt really mind if it happened, I just think its not a big need for disney to do it.

I'm sure Disney wouldn't want 2 differently themed resorts right across the bridge from each other. But maybe they should just blow up the bridge, keep PC as is, and treat Animation Inn & Suites as an entirely separate resort.

I am not sure if it has been posted yet but 2 permits were filed on 11/7/2008 with the name "Disney Animation Inn and Suites" on them. They were for a wall mock up and a model suite. The model called for a 2050 square foot room which would be considerably larger than the standard value suite made up of 2 value rooms. Also the location given of this project does not pull up in the Orange County, or Osceola County maps so I can not confirm its location as Pop Century. If someone can look at the location on the permit and confirm it we will have a much better idea of what is going on.

According to the construct model room docs it will be in an existing building so maybe we can assume the mock up will be in the unfinished part of pop.

If AI&S (hey a new acronym!) is for only a portion of the resort I wonder what the rest of the resort might be rethemed to? Any ideas? I was thinking they could theme them to famous Disney classic attractions (haunted mansion, IASW, jungle cruise and ToT, elevator included :lookaroun)

Actually I really like the retheme concept but would rather have a nice SM refurb.

Leave the existing POP resort alone. Use the legendary yrs. to make the new inn and suites. we love POP........

I have a feeling it won;t matter. Disney's new strategy is to theme everything to a franchise. So both pop and all-stars will be rethemed. And it is probably just a matter of time before stitch moves into Poly, Wall-E the contemporary, Pocahontas FW and WL and Lion King the AKL.

Personally, I love PoP Century...

But I am confused about one thing in Jim's article: are they going to re-theme the ENTIRE resort, or just the Legendary Years buildings? I would think that they could just save the trouble...and money...of having to re-theme an entire, perfectly good resort (Classic Years) and just keep it the way it was (maybe rename it, though) and make the Legendary Years the Animation Inn & Suites...

(If they DO retheme the entire resort, I want the giant Mickey Telephone......eBay, anybody?)
That would make the most sense. They are definetly seperated, and could be presented as two seperate resorts. One moderate, and one value.

and then pors and pofq could be re themed to Song Of the South!!!!:ROFLOL:
