The rumor started when the Magic Kingdom showed up on planning calendars as closing at 5:00PM on the 3rd. Rumors swirled that there would be some big event in the evening, with some big announcement. The rumors were wrong.

Actually what was going on was Burbank trying to decide which location to host the Miley Cyrus Sweet 16 Birthday Party, and both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland had days this weekend posted with a mysterious 5:00PM closing time. They chose Disneyland instead of Magic Kingdom, and the WDW calendar was changed to show Magic Kingdom closing at the regular time.

Disneyland closes on Sunday at 5:00PM, and there is a private party that night for 5,000 Miley Cyrus fans who paid 250 dollars per ticket to get in. It will be a big celebrity event, Miley is doing a concert on Tom Sawyer Island for the fans, the usual Hollywood TV shows will cover it, Bob Iger will give a big check to Miley's charity during the party, etc.

It's purely a media event for America's Sweetheart.
