SSE colors - just curious about lighter colors

I`m glad it wasn`t me - in July I thought it looked lighter at certain times.

The original scheme consisted of the banks of spotlights slowly fading in and out, with each set of lights being a different colour. The yellow is so classic - its the strip lighting above the doors of the stores hitting the underside. Back in the day the path lighting around the queue gave this illumination too. The yellow further out is new ;)

Here are some of the original schemes

And here it is from this July

WOW...So SSE is slowly changing colors? Is this being done my WDI or is it just the natural changes on the age of the banks?

Completly unrelated to the question of the changing of the colors, but does anyone know how exactly they light the top of the sphere? I always look around for the source of the lights, but there's nothing around SSE that is higher then it that would allow the top of it to be lit. So how do they get the lighting on the very top?

And marni-thanks for gathering all of those SSE pics. I definately like the colors with less purple in them- the green really seems to add something.

Ah.I REEEEEALLLY hope that this is a sign of good things to come. The Static idea is SO old.If the castle over in MK can change, sparkle and have gobos, why not EPCOT?:fork::lol:

No please don't bring the gobos over to Spaceship Earth, it works ok in the Magic Kingdom with shows like wishes, but I think this would look rather tacky on the geosphere.

I would LOVE for SSE to slowly change colors like MK's castle. The wand isn't there anymore, so let's jazz it up! Martin's pictures of the original schemes were gorgeous. Bring it back. :D

Well, this all could be much ado about nothing, but the colors definitely have been toned down. Let us hope this is the beinginning of a return to the sphere changing colors. Martin's pictures show just how stunning the sphere can be when it is different colors. :)

High intensity spot/washes with a large traveling distance. They are placed above the ticket booths and post show building in addition to the places mentioned by marni.

It should also be noted that darker colors are aimed at the top so that it looks like the harder to reach places fit in better with the night sky.

Here's a picture, as promised, as my camera saw it, no post picture work done to it...

For the record, I didn't notice anything odd when I was there.

I was looking for the lights too on Saturday night while we were leaving. I could see the yellow lights way up on the buildings....and the pic that Martin posted with the reddish SSE - how totally cool!
