Disney Music In Non-Disney Parks?

Took the kids to Darien Lake (upstate NY) yesterday, formerly a Six Flags. They have a piratey section and I was surprised to hear "A Pirate's Life For Me" being played as BGM in this area. Anybody ever heard Disney music in other parks? They would have to buy the rights to play Disney music, wouldn't they?

Just curious.

A little off topic, but I was thinking about taking the kids there for a quick weekend trip. I havnt been there in a few years. How was it?

I hadn't been there in many years. You know, it's a big amusement park. We did have a lot of fun -- the kids love coasters, and being a weekday (with a rainy morning no less), most rides were walk-ons.

Are you planning on camping? That would add to the fun for sure. If so, I'd look into season passes, as you save a lot of $$$ even in 2 visits.

Hans Zimmer's Pirates theme plays in the queue for Maverick at Cedar Point. (Amidst a plethora of Westerns, I may add, which is the actual theme of the ride. )

To add to the Disney in odd places even if this isn't music. At Six Flags up here on their electronic "bilboards" or whatever they are they were advertiseing the WALL-E video game last time I was there.

I heard the music from the Spectromagic parade playing on ESPN during a commercial for a big golf tournament. I don't know anything about golf, or I would specify which tournament it was. But my husband was watching, and I heard it, and yelled "Hey that's Spectromagic!" He didn't believe me, so I went onto youtube and pulled up a video of the parade. Lo and behold....same music!

Of course, Disney does own ESPN so I don't know if this counts....:)

The other night during an NBC spot on Michael Phelps I noticed that they used the National Treasure theme, and then later in a spot on I think the gymnastics team they used the Pirates theme from the movies. Needless to say, I jumped in excitement when these two great movie themes were used.

It is very common for music rights to be bought by other companies. It is a quick way for the original owner of the music to make a buck. That's why you can hear the Harry Potter theme at DHS around the hat.

As far as the WALL*E sign, I believe the sign was actually put up by GameStop. I believe they are a sponsor of the Six Flags parks, most likely they were just advertising what they thought would be a popular video game.

In England there are two theme parks that I have heard Disney Theme Park Media being used. The first is Thorpe Park, where on the Log Flume Ride (which is themed to Canana) has the old big thunder mountain spiel (or a very good impersination of it) play as you begin the ride. The second is at Adventure Island at Southend on Sea, where they quite often have Yo-ho Yo-ho A pirates life for me playing in a number of sections of the park.

lol....i saw this thread and this comment the day before i was chaperoning a band trip to Cedar Point. So i HAD to do it!!! what i did was have Big Thunder Mountain Railroad music at the Maverick and at Millennium, i had Space Mountain queue on. THANKS FOR THE IDEA DanDaman!

I work at a small amusment park in NH, Canobie Lake Park. We play a bunch of Disney Songs in the park. On the Carosel we play When you wish upon a star, the wipeout plays See you again by Hannah Montanna. I believe that some of the atmospher music is sometimes Disney Stuff. It actually helps me get through the day at work. :D

ahhhh. Darien Lakes. The memories I have of driving there for day trips or camping weekends growing up :goodnevil. The viper was the 1st (and last) rollercoaster I ever rode (I believe it was the only one or at least the newest one they had at the time). I haven't been there in at least 20 years now.

Ok, now that I have aged myself to no end, I don't really recall Disney music at other theme parks directly, but it doesn't shock me if some play it. Most is very soothing and/or gets people in the mood for fun.

OK, neither of these is a theme park, but still...

I was at a Buffalo Bisons (AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians...for now) game last year and before the game I suddenly realized what was playing...Illuminations!

This next one is kind of embarrassing...those of you here who listen to Live 365 will probably understand. I was eating at Cheesecake Factory a couple weeks ago and they play some standard elevator music-type stuff in the background. Finally, I turned to my sister and friend (neither of whom listens to Live 365 Disney stations) and yelled, "It's the Bubble Shuffle!" They had no idea what I was talking about, and when I explained to my sister that it was a Tomorrowland track, she merely shook her head :o

To the OP, how was Darien Lake? I haven't been there, except for concerts, since Six Flags sold it. I'm wondering how the quality of attractions and staff has held up (not that there was a very high bar set by Six Flags).

I was just at Canobie Lake Park today. I happened to hear "Whistle While You Work" as I passed by the Carousel.

Very nice park, BTW. I hadn't been in years and wasn't expecting much, but came away pleasantly surprised. My compliments to you and your co-workers.

I have done EXACTLY that with the bubble shuffle. Also, 'Behind the Waterfall'.

Hmmmm....I have season passes to Darien Lake and I haven't heard any WDW park music. They play plenty of Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers though. My six year old daughter and I will be there for the Jonas Brothers concert tomorrow night. It's sold out so it's sure to be jam-packed with screaming little girls! To the person who asked about park quality since it's no longer owned by Six Flags; it's still very good. They have a great show - Cirque Nouveau, I wasn't expecting much and really enjoyed it!
