Amazon.com: 26" Envision L26W761 720p Widescreen LCD HDTV (Black): Audio & Video

There is still a lot that I don't know about HDTV. Now my living room (which is like the main place that I watch tv) I still plan to wait a while before getting a HDTV's and Blu-ray player. For now I have my very nice flat screen Digital Tv (that is not HD, but still a very nice Tv) and standard dvd player in my living room.

As I wait for the perfect time to get a HDTV and Blu-ray playing for my living room, I would like to go ahead and get a HDTV and Blu-ray player for my bedroom. The HDTV for my bedroom does not need to be the best one out there. Just a nice simple HDTV about 26 inches (or maybe 32 inches) and for a good price and it MUST be widescreen. That is why I am looking into this one that I linked on this thread. Now I would like the HDTV for my living room to be like perfect, but that is later in time. The HDTV for my bedroom is just something to give me a way to watch HDTV and Blu-ray in my room and a way to watch HDTV and Blu-ray while I wait for the perfect time to get a HDTV and Blu-ray player for my living room.

Anyways if anyone can help me with advice about this HDTV or another one that would be great. Do you think this tv would be good for what I am looking for? Also with the changes that will happen in Feb of 2009 will I need anything else to pick up HD channels?

With Sleeping Beauty coming to Blu-ray this is like the perfect time for little me to get a HDTV and Blu-ray player :king:

Tim,

If you have cableserfvice, you'll need an HD cable box from your cable company. If you're just looking at off-air reception, you'll be fine with that TV in your bedroom. I am not sure how many stations you have in your area, but if your main interest is Blu-ray to watch Disney movies you'll be good to go. When buying connecting cables, don't be conned into "high-quality" HDMI cables, get the cheapest one you can, it's a digital signal, the quality of the cable means nothing.

When you buy for your living room you might want to do a lot of research before you buy.

Very very true!

I'm amazed at the racket that goes on with HDMI cables. Monster Cable selling cables for $80+. You can pick up some perfectly good HDMI cables for $10, and the difference on screen is zero.

I have noticed a smilar thing with main stream stores selling stupidly priced USB cables for computers.

Caveat emptor!

I had one salesman spend ten minutes extolling the virtues of Monster Cable HDMI cables and how he could clearly tell the difference in how vivid the picture was when he used them. I let him keep talking on and on and finally asked him if he could explain to me how many Db of over-line signal loss would be necessary to degrade a digital signal? He looked at me rather sheepishly and said the $12 HDMI cable I had in my hand would be perfect.

My HDTV's main use will be for my Blu-ray player. So don't think I will be getting a HD cable box or any of that. As for connecting cables for my HDTV and Blu-ray player, does the Blu-ray player usually come with connectiong cables?

Also after going out to my local circuit city and best buy stores, I think I like the 32 inch widescreen tv better. My local circuit city has this same tv in 32 inches for like $125 more.

The blue-ray may or may not come with HDMI cables. It might only have composite cables which are OK, but not as good. It's definitely worth getting HDMI

I had this tv in my living room but have since moved it to the bedroom. We bought this tv to use in the living room for our PS3(which is a blu-ray player also). The first tv was ok at playing the blu ray's but the resolution was only 720p. The full resolution for a blue ray is 1080p. So the second tv is a 40" 1080p, 30,000:1 contrast ratio. I noticed the tv you picked out has only 800:1 contrast ratio.(the higher the number the better). I was told by a salesperson at Circuit City that the contrast ratio makes the blues more blue and so on...

I noticed a BIG difference between the 720p and the 1080p. The quality of the picture blew me away. Of course the 40" is bigger than the 32" which helps. They do sell 32" 1080p models but the salesman said the higher resolution needs a larger screen to get the full amount of pixels to show... So for $200 more than the 32" we bought the 40".

I'm telling you this only because I don't want you to be disappointed with the quality of the picture with the type of tv you picked. I'm not an expert but maybe this will help you some...:)

I had to comment on this because when I bought DH's TV for the bedroom for Christmas the salesman talked me into paying 99.00 for those cables to go with it. Thought I was doing great until DH freaked when he found out what I paid for them.. oh well, it is the thought that counts.. I guess.

If I can mention one great piece of advice that I have learned from owning several different HDTVs, both plasma and LCD it would be...
1. Make sure the model that you buy has replaceable parts.
2. Make sure that you get the extended warranty.
3. Make sure that you verify that the TV you are buying is exactly what they are advertising it to be... check the paperwork with the TV.
Reasons being...
We bought a 52 inch (don't know if I should say the brand) from a major chain less than 2 years ago.
It went crazy about a month ago (could not watch it at all) and we had purchased the warranty. We call them up and they send someone to fix it. After 2 parts were changed they informed us that the main board could not be replaced.
We had to fight tooth and nail because the store claimed that the TV we had purchased was a 720 when when our paperwork showed it was a 1080. Had we not noticed this they would have pawned a cheaper version off on us. They give you a comparable to what you purchased.
We made out okay because we noticed it but some people may have not.
From our experience with the Plasma tvs you do have to be more careful with widescreens and gaming than you do an LCD because of burn in. We use the LCDS for games because of this.
Hope this helps a little
