Spaceship Earth Color Change

EPCOT Explorer

I don't think it was a rumor but a half baked wish *someone* had when they reported that the palms around SSE would color change...

Although, it would be VERY nice to have this back again.

I was told that if SSE were to change colors again, a couple of banks of washes would have to be repaired. However, the lights don't quite seem to make their way in to the budget.

Wasn't there any plans to have the geosphere change colors during the evening hours like it use to?

The plans were always for the underside of the geosphere. And as far as I know, the lighting at night still happens (blue, green, red). WDI spent alot of money on the landscape lighting that they installed along the queue and underside of the geosphere.

The bottom's changing isn't that noticeable due to the lighting from the camera center and Gateway Gifts. It cancels it out.

Not to be sarcastic....but whats the point?? Why put money or effort into something that no one will notice.....doesn't sound very Disney to me

And speaking of the lighting for SE, does anyone know why the attraction's main signs stay blue? I know during the intial testing phase they changed color from blue to purple to red and so on. It's a neat effect that's not used.

Not really... If its a typical dark evening, the colors are more than visible. Remember, the lighting was meant to be subtle. It envelops the underside of the geosphere with light, but only for ambiance and mood, not to light up the place.

Its actually very Disney--I spent a whole half-hour learning about this from the Imagineers who developed the lighting setup. The lights, along with the landscaping and decor were all placed in the way they were for a reason. There is a pretty complicated explaination as to each individual piece of the setup, but its all there for a purpose.

They removed those colors from sign's functionality after the brief testing period when they decided that the blue should remain the main color to display. They found that the blue and light blue worked best with the plexiglass and showed up in most variants of lighting throughout the day.
