I-295 or stay on I-95??

We usually take I295 around Jacksonville but I think I remember reading a post here last year about sometimes it is not faster due to construction. Is this still a problem?

Right now there is no construction on I-295 but there is major construction in 2 locations on I-95. I would take I-295 around Jacksonville until the I-10/I-95 interchange is complete in 2011-2012.

I live just south of Jacksonville. I would stay on I-95. I would avoid 295 and the Buckman Bridge at all costs. Any construction on I-95 will still be much quicker than taking 295.

Ooh, looks like we need a tiebreaker. :ROFLOL:

And I can't tell you which is best, because it all depends upon the traffic pattern.

If there are no construction or traffic delays (by this I mean, the construction slows the traffic a little, but doesn't block it), it is a shorter distance and faster to stay on I-95.

An accident anywhere near the Trout River, I-95/I-10 merger, or Fuller Warren Bridge (downtown JAX) will make 295 shorter. And there are frequent accidents near the 10/95 merger because of construction.

Getting behind someone on the Buckman Bridge who is moving slowly will add time, as it is a long bridge with no passing. And lots of locals are afraid of it. An accident will obviously add extra time.

I travel I-95 daily, and it is only a little over a mile from my home, so I am more comfortable with it. But, as Master Yoda said, the construction can mess you up.

So choose which you are more comfortable with (lots of construction, or little construction but lots of congestion due to other drivers) and go for it.

I would agree if you are traveling rather late at night but have you been through the I-95/ I-10 interchange recently especially during the day? It has gotten so bad that it can take 30 minutes to an hour to go from MLK to 17 which is only a 4 mile trip. Traffic northbound will back up from MLK to the other side of the Trout river bridge. 295 and in particular the Buckman is pretty consistent unless there is an accident. Generally as long as you stay in the left lane and avoid the back up of the Blanding Blvd and 17 exits you are good.

Very true. Up until school ended I was traveling from Baymeadows to MLK up 95 at 4:00 PM and if you knew the patter you could get through fairly easily but on the occasion I had to head to head back in the opposite direction it was a nightmare.

If you are not familiar with the traffic patterns and the ever changing lane shifts you could easily wind up lost and going way out of your way to get back on track.

With me it depends. I-95 is a lot shorter and quicker than I-295. If I am going into Jacksonville people are traveling to or from work I take I-295. If it is a time of the day when most people will be at the office I bust Jacksonville wide open on I-95.

Sorry totally OT, but I couldn't help getting misty eyed reading about Jacksonville. We used to live north of Jacksonville in GA and would make the trip to the "Big City" every couple weeks.

For any that know or care, is there still a food service store in the malls by the name of Hovan Gourmet? We loved that place so much.

Again, sorry for the hijack, now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I am not sure if it is the exact same one but there is a Hovan style place in Regency and the Avenues. If you went to Regency you might also be happy to know that the Orange Tree is still there in fact there is now two of them in the mall.

There is a Hovan's in 5 Points in Riverside, if the place you're thinking of had Gyros, etc?

It's a tough call and will depend on traffic and time of day, like others have said. You should probably stick to whatever you're the most comfortable with since it's a gamble either way.

And hey, look at all of us 904 dwellers (even if I am temporarily displaced) However... proof that one county makes all the difference: I have no idea what anyone is talking about with this restaurant

The clsoings can get kind of crazy, especially at night. I remember heading out to the airport, picking up I-10 at Roosevelt to merge into I-95 N, and seeing a sign telling me that I-95N is closed!

I had to go I-95 S over the Fuller Warren bridge, but noted that the traffic crossing the bridge was still going north. It was backed up across the bridge at the San Marco/Baptist Hospital/Nemours exit, which had the detour signs, so I kept going and took Atlantic & made a U-turn at Bishop Kenny HS. I was only able to do this because I know the area so well, and knew that it was easier to get back on at the next exit, but was also thinking about any alternative routes if I really couldn't go N again. Someone from out of town would have been stuck in traffic on the bridge.

Quite frankly, it was 10PM, and I really didn't want to take the back way to get to the airport.

According to today's paper, the work might be done earlier than planned. At least the drought helped something around here.

I will be glad to see it finally finished. Any word on the completion date of the last bit of 9A around JTB? Once that gets finished it will be a much better option for those wishing to avoid the 95/10 interchange.

We mostly went to Regency since it was the closest. MMMMMM Orange Tree. Miss that too.

We were told the sandwiches are Armenian, and man are they yummy. When we visit WDW next year I am so tempted to rent a car and go get one. My DH says it's not the wisest monetary choice we can make. LOL.
