What's so great about refillable mugs anyway?

It just seems like they'd be the biggest pain in the neck, and really drag down your vacation. Every time you want a drink you have to get the mug, walk it allllll the way to the food court (which at many resorts is quite a hike), then walk it allllll the way back to your room and wash it out.

Anytime I've travelled with someone who bought a refillable mug it made things so difficult. We'd be all ready to hit the parks, but then have to stand around waiting for 15 minutes for the person to bring their mug back to the room.

At the end of a long day in the parks you want to get a drink at the food court, but before you can - another hike to the room to grab the mug is in order. :hammer:

Even if you pay for 2 drinks a day out of pocket for 8 days (around $30), the mug only saves you $17. It doesn't seem worth the hassle at all for such little savings. What's $17 compared to the $2,000+ you're spending?

If you're only drinking 2 drinks a day in the mug it may not be worth it.

Get a few kids, especially teens that can get their own drinks, and watch them drink 5-10 drinks a day, and with a few kids in the family, and adults that like their coffee a few times a day, the savings can add up.

Your only drinking 2 drinks a day? My god, i'd be dehydrated!

I drink about 10 bottles of water a day when its warm, about 8 in winter. The refillable mugs were never a problem for us, we got one each, carried them around in our rucksack and when were were thirst we drank them. They saved us a heck of a lot of money :p

But i can see where your coming from if you don't drink very much. :)

I am in total agreement. We used to buy the refillable mugs and they were nothing but a pain! I always made sure we would fill our mugs up on our way to the bus in the morning just to get our money's worth since we spend all of our time in the park. So once we go to the park, I would have to go rinse out and dry our mugs first thing and then carry them around in my bag for the entire day. And carrying around 4 empty mugs is a pain. So we stopped getting them. They are pointless and annoying if you have to carry them around the park all day.

I see where you're coming from. They can be rather annoying. I've been that person waiting...... Luckily for us- we bring our car most places. We'll eat and leave the mugs in the car. My mother-in-law doesn't come into the parks much and brings them back to the room for us. It works out alright. (Not to mention - we're those people who don't buy new mugs every trip. They've already received more money from us than my mortgage owed. They can spare it!)

When I stayed at Pop, I always stuck my mug on a carbiner clip and hung it off my belt. Wasn't too much of a PITA. They had "mug wash" stations right there by the drink machines, so I'd hose it down quickly, dry it off, shove a couple of napkins in it to catch the drips, and off I'd go. It worked well at Pop because to get to the buses you had to go through the same building that houses the food court. At places like AKL, though, it doesn't necessarily make as much sense since Mara is way down in the "basement."

I'm only ever at the resort first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Not really time to get more than 2 drinks. (And of course I drink while I'm at the parks, but I was only talking about the resorts, since that's where you use the mugs ;))

I always forget it in the room. It never fails. And it is never worth it to me to walk all the way back to our villa and then all the way back to the Roaring Fork at the WL.
We mostly drink bottled water anyway....I try really hard to limit myself to only one or two sodas a day while at WDW (at home I only drink soda maybe once a week, if even).
So I gave up on getting the refillable mug.

We rarely get the mugs. More often than not we are at PORS and have access to a fridge. For the price of 1 mug we can buy 4 12 packs of soda for the kids and I drink coffee which Disney provides with the room.

In years past we have gotten the mugs and it was a pain to bring and take back to the room esp if you didn't want to carry all day. Last year e thought about getting them and opted not to. We had the dining plan and thought it wouldn't be worth it. We will probably not get them again in Nov since we will have the dining plan then also

I agree with you 100% They were allways a hassle to me. I have two girls (6 & 9) and they want milk and water, not soda. They are also more than happy to drink out of the water fountains.

And, we like to start a bit later and then close out the parks. So for us, most of the time the food court is closed when we get back to the resort.

I've personally never bought one and neither has anyone in my family when we've gone in groups. It's never been a value for us and I've always wondered how they weren't a gigantic PITA to lug around.

When they still had the resort specific mugs I bought them more for a souveneir item. I'd bring them home and drink my ice water out of them. I use at least one of them every single day. It brings a little disney magic my way every day.

My hubby gets up and showers earlier than me, so he would run out while I was getting ready and get himself a coffee and me a coke to wake me up. Then, usually when we got back at night, he would make a run to get another drink. So they weren't saving us that much money, but I do use them until the sides wear off at home.

Now, if they don't go back to resort specific after year of a millions dreams, I'm not sure I'll continue to buy them, but I'll be sad then.

Just a thought but would more people get an unlimited refill mug if you did not need the mug? It could be attached to your room key and you could just use a disposable cup. Sure it is not the greenest of options, but it would remove the physical hassle of the mug.

I bought one in January when i was at the CBR. I was just across the bridge so it was a trip for me, however, I had a backpack that had a net cupholder and the mug fit in their perfect. The backpack went with me everywhere and that made it really easy. Also, the cleaning sink at the caf area made it easy to clean and drink both coffee and coke. I really liked the mug and i use it all the time here at home. The only thing is, I wish the parks would have accepted the mug and allowed for free drinks although I think that would have been a monetary loss for Disney

I'm with those who think they're a pain. We rarely drink soda (including my teenaged son), and it's easier to carry a water bottle around. We do have coffee in the morning, but that's hardly worth the expense. We also only go for a few nights at a time, if that many, and like to try different resorts.

We live within a 1/2 day drive, so we can bring a case of water/gatorade/lemonade with us.

So it isn't worth it for my family.

I think that might sway me. But you are correct, it's not green at all.

I use to get them in the past when I drank more soda but now I drink more water. I dont drink coffee but I think my next trip I will get it just so my wife can have coffee.

Is it 5:00 yet?
We used to buy them also. I always HATED getting back from the parks at night and then having to drag myself to the food court to fill them up..:brick: I think I am going to bypass them for this trip in June because we will only be there for 2 days and if we even eat at the food court we will just buy a drink in a regular glass. Plus I don't have anymore room in my cabinets for anymore mugs..
