Can't be too careful

Well I, for one, am glad that Disney takes a potential (yes, I said POTENTIAL) threat like this seriously. I'd rather be safe than sorry and feel more comfortable knowing that WDW security takes every precaution necessary to ensure our safety while we're enjoying ourselves.

Not that this is a funny situation at all but since it was at Disney I was picturing all those guys from The Child Dection Agency (CDA) in yellow suits, coming from all over the place and bolting down that metal thing like when they blew up the kids sock in Monster's Inc.

that would have been the Disney way to take care of it

Oh please! Everybody is overreacting to a practically non-existent threat. You have a greater chance of dying from a hangnail than being killed by a terrorist. Are there terrorists? Absolutely. Are they dangerous. Some are, definitely. But the chances of anything on the scale of 9/11 (which only happened because our gocvernment was asleep at the wheel) happening again are remote, even with the shredding of the Bill of Rights. If you people are scared, then stay home. Blowing up an unattended book bag is ridiculous.
And these are the kind of people that will cause history to repeat itself...
I agree with most of the people on this thread. Safe is better than sorry.

I was in MK on sat and there was a lunch bag against the railing by the walkway near the castle to tomorrowland. Within minutes there was 4 security guards there and the walkway was closed. Next thing we know there is a security woman walking the bomb sniffing dog over. Thank goodness it was nothing!

I for one am very glad that Disney takes everything so very serious!

The thing that no one has discussed yet is the fact that none of us know what kind of phone calls Disney has received, prank or otherwise, that would lead them to believe that there might be a threat. Unless there is a CM from Security that posts here, and they really shouldn't and, I'm guessing, wouldn't divulge any details, we cannot know what goes on behind the scenes that has caused these heightened responses to presumed threats.

Disney has no choice but to play it safe. It isn't just terrorists we have to watch out for, it's the crazies. Terrorists didn't blow up the Federal Building in Oklahoma, or shoot all those students at Columbine or Virginia Tech. We're living in a different world now. And 9-11 is only part of the problem. I don't like to live in fear, though. I try to think positive, and act smart.

Former Planet Hollywood employee arrested for Downtown Disney bomb threat

Susan Jacobson | Sentinel Staff Writer 10:20 PM EDT, April 28, 2008

A former Planet Hollywood employee was arrested Monday after he threw his backpack on the ground and told restaurant managers that it contained a bomb, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Jason Sean Davis, 21, of St. Cloud came to the restaurant in Downtown Disney West Side about 4 p.m. asking to be rehired, deputies said. Managers refused, so he threw his backpack between the gift shop and a stairwell, the Sheriff's Office said. Investigators evacuated the restaurant, which a manager said had few patrons at that hour, even though Davis tried to take back his allegation.

The backpack was blown up and found to contain only Davis' belongings. He was arrested on a charge of making a bomb threat and was being held late Monday at the Orange County Jail.

Planet Hollywood reopened about 7 p.m.

At least nothing happened. I think that is what we should be thankful for. As far as the security argument goes, it is not new. We have been having the security vs. freedom argument since the birth of our nation. There is a famous quote from Ben Franklin that states, "those that would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither". I am not saying that he was right or wrong, I am simply pointing out that this is a long standing issue that is complex. We have suffered several attacks on our soil throughout history and they have all been followed by increased security. It is very difficult to balance freedom and security and I am not sure that any of us knows for sure where that balance is.

Cafe 80's Bomb Threat
Susan Jacobson Jr. | Hill Valley Times Staff Writer 10:20 PM PST, April 28, 2015

A former Cafe 80's employee was arrested, convicted, and stood trial Monday after he threw his backpack and Hoverboard on the ground and told restaurant managers that it contained a bomb, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Griff Tannen, 21, of Hill Valley came to the restaurant "Cafe 80's" in Downtown Hill Valley about 4 p.m. asking to be rehired, deputies said. Managers refused, so he threw his belongings between the gift shop and a stairwell, the Sheriff's Office said. Investigators evacuated the restaurant, which a manager said had few patrons at that hour, even though Tannen tried to take back his allegation.

The backpack and hoverboard were both blown up by a Bomb Squad robot, and found to contain nothing explosive. He was arrested on a charge of making a bomb threat, and in now being held late Monday at the Hill Valley County Jail. Griff Tannen had this to say: "I was framed! BUTTHEAD!" Cafe 80's reopened at 7 PM.

GREAT SCOTT!

:p

Yes, I have nothing better to do.

I am personally glad that Disney takes these kind of threats seriously. It is the people who say "this won't happen" that will cause things like that to happen.

I'm guessing he is still not going to get the job (or any other job for that matter). :p

For those that don't know, O'Hare is the busiest airport in the worldand just an unreal sea of people once you get into the terminals.

Psssssssssssssst - Come closer (have a little secret to tell ya):zipit:

Atlanta, Hartsfield Jackson Airport is the busiest in the world...

"Since 1998, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States has been the world's busiest passenger airport. Numbers represent the number of passengers enplaned and deplaned with passengers in transit counted only once.
1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport - 84,846,639 2. O'Hare International Airport (Chicago) - 77,028,134"

Although, I think O'Hare...MIGHT....have taken over 2007, but still.:hammer:

I remember a few weeks after 9/11 a suspicious device was found on the back of a pick up truck in the EPCOT parking lot. It was a major issue, as it looked very much like a major explosive device. Guests were detained INSIDE Epcot. Nobody could leave. People missed their flights. The FBI was involved, as were several state agencies (FHP, OCSO, etc). They barricaded the parking lot entrance. Shut down the monorail beam and all power to it.

As it turns out, it was an external fuel tank on the pick-up. While uber-dangerous, it was not a serious threat to park security. Quite the commotion it caused though.

Wise words :D

As for O'Hare- it may have lost its number one spot but it is still

any way you look at it!

Back to the story- right or wrong in the handling of the situation, bottom line, I'm glad it turned out to be nothing.

I've never heard of them blowing things up in WDW before. I know it happens but in the world seems rather extreme. What ever happened to bomb sniffing dogs.

The dogs have got together and formed a Trades Union. They're out on strike as sniffing bombs is dangerous work :ROFLOL:

I
I remember landing those days after 9/11 and walking into the terminal and then just stopping in my tracks. As far as I could see in just about each direction...there were about 10 people. This was a weekday about 9AM when there would normally be thousands, if not tens of thousands of people. The police and the bomb dogs outnumbered the passengers 10 to 1.

He said...quite angry..."Haven't any of you learned a thing? Even after the knock down the World Trade Center, nobody takes an unattended backpack or briefcase seriously! Everybody is just too busy and it will never happen to me!! Well...it happened people!!! WAKE UP!!!"

Will never forget that. He was so right on and people need to realize that there are some MESSED UP PEOPLE living on this planet that want to hurt you!

Blowing up and unattended backpack at Planet Hollywood is what happens post 9/11. And if you want to really really get scared about how vulnerable we all are, do a google search for TATP and see what that mess is all about.
I remember too, how the airports were not so busy after 9/11. I just hope our Government isn't taking another nap. You want to talk about over reacting, TSA are the ones. On our trip home last week from Vegas after I got cleared going through the security check point but my dd didn't because she wears a medical device. So she had to go for additional screening, so they asked me if I wanted to stay with her while they did this. I said yes, of course and what did the female tsa agent feel compelled to do to me but to have to do a hands on check on me. Rubbing her hands all around my female areas. :fork:This AFTER I had been cleared and was only there to stand by my 10 year old who had to go through this for reasons I understand. Sheesh!

So... some guy had a fit... cause he lost his job at PH... AND on top of it he wanted to go back [Eww! Why? lol]... so he tossed his back pack on the ground during a hissy... said it was a bomb... and all it was was this guys lunchable?:lol:

Crazy world.
