Video clips of 1970's Magic Kingdom

Loved the look back in time. "Mary Poppins music for the Jungle Cruise and Maple Leaf Rag for Tomorrowland? Well I never!" :lookaroun

It would be quite interesting to place a date on that video. I'm guessing 1973 or 1974, given that PotC is open, but the Star Jets, Peoplemover and Space Mountain aren't. If they were opening that year, I'd guess Disney might advertise it slightly, so it's gotta be '73 or '74.

I was trying to place the year too. I've just checked in my 'Since the world Begin' book and Space Mountain open in Jan 1974, Swan ride started 1973 and Caribbean Plaza open in 1973. You can't see any ground breaking for Space Mountain so I think the clips were maybe filmed 72/73 for 73 airing

If I time-traveled or something and entered the Magic Kingdom back then, and saw it without Space Mountain, I would FLIP OUT! :ROFLOL:

It`s a compilation of clips; The Walt Disney Story opened April 15th 1973 (sign is shown) but Space Mountain was well under construction by then (half the supporting wall frame was in place and the main roof had been raised)

Since the World began, as good as it is, does has a few errors. SM opened Jan 15th 1975 for example

#1. that place looked like it had fallen out of the sky back then... very few big trees and plants. you could see the contemporary resort from the speedway!

#2. what was with the music they edited in? it was soooooo incongruous to almost every scene.

#3. it must have been a challenge to keep people on property very long... I mean, you stay at the contemporary resort and go to the MK and... then what? did you notice how sparce it was of people?

#4. twas a far more innocent time in the early 70's, hmmm?

It looks like a lot (but not all) of the footage came from the film The Magic Of Walt Disney World, with some slightly newer footage mixed in.

What was that Mickey orchestra thing? That looked very cool!

And, oh yeah, Mr. Toad. :(

That orchestra thing was the Mickey Mouse Revue and it was a great show. It was located where Philharmagic is now. You could see more of it at mousebits. Martin's fantasyland history has great footage of it.

The Mickey Mouse Revue was, from what I can remember, an entertaining show, but not something that I was clamoring to re ride. In fact, I only remember ever going on it one time in about the eight years that it was at MK.

Its new home is Toyko's Fantasyland, so it's not too late to see it. ;)
