Sick and leaving in two days!

We leave for nine glorious days at WDW on Thursday and I'm really bummed and frustrated because I developed a really bad head/chest cold over the weekend and I'm still feeling pretty bad today. The frustrating thing is that just last week I finished my third run of antibiotics for a nasty sinus infection that I have been battling since Christmas. As some of you may already know, I am struggling with some other health problems anyway besides having this lovely little set back so I'm really concerned that I'm gonna feel horrible the whole time I'm there.

SO...I need some cheering up folks, and maybe some tips on how to deal with this. Prayers would be awesome too.

Thanks!

edit-this probably should have been under Trip Planning.

I hate to hear this.:( Go back to the doctor and get a big fat shot in the hip and a Z-pack. You'll be better in no time.

Have a great trip!!

I'm in [nearly] the same boat. I've been sick since March 15 and can not get 'right' no matter what I do. At least the fever is finally gone but I still have a hacking/gagging cough. I leave for WDW on Friday and I'm hoping that the warm climate will help clear out the rest of the junk in my chest.

I hope that you can rally and sunny FL has some healing benefits for you. Keep pushing fluids and eat (even if you don't feel like it) in order to keep up your strength. You might need to adopt 2-part touring at least for the first few days - get up and tour in the morning, go back to your resort for a mid-day rest and then go back to the parks for evenings. Sitting by the pool might do you some good. I wish you all the best and offer prayers for a swift recovery and a magical vacation.

Awwww....I feel ya. On our 2nd family trip I came down with a miserable flu the day after we arrived. I had the killer cold symptoms, fever, etc. I loaded up with meds and tissue and kept moving. It was tough, no doubt. I was so afraid of disappointing my kids. I actually lost like 10 lbs. that week. Since then, particularly in the weeks leading up to a trip, I'm this major vitamin/health nut.

Sounds like you're doing all you can. Just hang in there, continue to work towards better health, and stay positive. I'll pray for ya. You never know, you may arrive at WDW and have that be the magic ingredient to finally make you all well again.

Hugs to ya!

Thanks for the encouragement and prayers. I would love to go to the Dr. and get another Zpack but I doubt very seriously he'll put me back on them because I developed a rather nasty side effect of taking three runs of antibiotics so close together. I developed a yeast infection in my throat, which I didn't even know could happen, and I'm currently under treatment for it. I'm currently eating Vitamin C like candy and taking Mucinex for my chest congestion.

I also have sleep apnea and have to sleep with a Cpap machine which is aggravating my already raw and painful sinuses.

Sheesh! Can't a guy get a break?

Here's what you do, fizzle-

When you get to WDW, go to the Japanese restaurant in EPCOT.
Tell them that you want an extra large serving of fresh 'wasabe'.
That stuff will clear your sinuses.
You will also see your ancestors if you take a big bite.

:)

I could just snort it like Steve-O and then my cold would be the least of my worries!

Maybe we can meet up and hack and cough together! Misery loves company!

I'm actually more concerned that my wife doesn't get this. I hope I'm on the tail end of mine so hopefully I'll be able to eek out a few good days while I'm there but if my wife gets sick now she would probably be sick during the entire trip. Please pray for her as well.

Merf told me the other day that it's been very rainy down there lately. Is it still rainy? What are the temps like? How's the humidity?

It'd be fun to meet - unless we accidentally swapped germs and gave each other's families a new bug to germinate. I hope your wife is able to avoid catching what you have. Oh - and that throat thing is called 'thrush' (at least that's what it's called when infants get it).

According to weather.com, you're going to have mostly sunny days. A few days have 10-30% chance of isolated showers, so not too bad overall.

BTW - Our family lives 3 hours away from you and your wife .

There is always Mucinex D , not sure how to spell it but you have to ask for it because it is behind the counter. It works VERY well too. I was sick for three weeks and broke down and took some and within two days I was much better.

A co-worker just went through a similar predicament. He wound up developing an infection in the cartilage behind his sternum. It took a night in the hospital and IV antibiotics to clear it but it cleared almost overnight once he got the IV antibiotics. If you have chest pain and have been through 3 rounds of z-packs and are taking Mucinex with no relief it might be time to get a little more aggressive in your treatment. Have you had any x-rays taken of your chest to rule out pneumonia or something similar?
