Nickelodeon Entering Cruise Business

According to this article, Nickelodeon has made a deal with Royal Caribbean to sail Nickelodeon-themed cruises. They've obviously been paying attention to Disney's success with DCL and are trying to cash in.

Will this be competition for DCL in the long run?

Personally, I don't think Nickelodeon can pull in the adults only faction. Seeing as we (DBF & I) have no children but still love Disney, we are considering DCL for our 2010 vacation. Nick in my opinion has nothing to offer us. Plus Spongebob is waaaay annoying.

I don't think so.. As people stated above.. Disney has stuff for ADULTS and KIDS.. As for this cruise, seems that it would be only for kids..

Welcome! And I wouldn't do Disney. Especially since they took out one of my favorite rides in Universal...

I don't think it will work. Royal C has casinos on their ships and if they want to be like Disney they'll have to get rid of them, or at least close them during the family cruise's. Which means there may be problems with union's, their workers will not be going so they may put them in other jobs if they can make some new one's up. Let's see a craps table mgr. dressed as one of the fairly odd parents. Boggles the mind.

As long as the adult activities are still on the ship, I fail to see how this won't be successful. Royal Caribbean is a respected cruise line (good for parents) and Nickelodeon is a big draw for kids. Seems like a winning combo as far as a special cruising experience during a few weeks every year.

Nickelodeon is till on the air???

GOOD FOR THEM!

Their charters with RCI will work, because they wont sail them empty!

I didn't read the fine print, but I suspect this will work the same way any other group can charter a ship. Nick will reserve a date and market the heck out of it until it sells out, then fill the ship with their cartoon characters and make some quick cash!

Heck...many of us "adults" would love to go on a MARVEL COMICS cruise if they or Universal ever did one! Sounds fun!

It's more along the lines of when Disney marketed the "Big Red Boat" - anybody remember that.

Think a RC cruise with a Nick overlay.

Disney Cruises are a Disney product, through and through. Wholly owned, planned, operated, secheduled, etc etc by Disney.

I don't see it taking much, if any, market share.

They are just now doing what Disney did in the 80s. I just dont thing you will be hearing people say "Im going on a Nickelodean Cruise" like you do with Disneys.

This wil not be competition for Disney. Disney has two dedicated ships while this Nickelodeon thing will be some cosmetic theming only. Until and unless they get dedicated ships, Disney has nothing to worry about.

Will they recycle the sea-sickness-induced vomit for their signature trademark "Slime" and "Gak"?

:lookaroun

In all seriousness though, Nickelodeon's shows at the moment are just awful, I can't see how anyone would want to spend a cruise hearing that annoying voice of the kid from the Fairly Oddparents. I don't think Disney has anything to worry about.

My ds5 just saw this commercial and he wants to go! He loved the slime part! :D I do NOT do cruises so we won't be going but I would choose a Disney cruise first over that one!!

I couldn't agree more, the shows Nickelodeon has now are just terrible. Go back 10-15 years when I was a kid, there were countless shows that were good. I could've watched Nickelodeon all day (which I will admit I sometimes did) and all the shows were entertaining. From the old cartoons, to sitcoms, to game shows, the early to mid 90's were the peak for Nickelodeon. I always wanted to go to Nickelodeon Studios when I was a kid because they would mention it at the end of every show. When I finally got there a few years ago (it's closed now) it was terrible. Most of the good shows had gone off the air. Not that I liked Nickelodeon more than Disney, but it is sad to see the quality of their entertainment go so far down....

We stayed at the Nickelodeon hotel in early January, other than the pool area (which we really enjoyed) I was not impressed with the hotel. My 2 year old nephew was terrified of Sponge Bob - freaked out every time he even came around. He is not afraid of any Disney characters.

RCL is a great cruise product, but I have a strange feeling this will be like the old Big Red Boat cruises....it wont compare to the Disney cruises at all. I wish them luck though!

i luv the disney crusie, but really dont think id like a nick crusise. i would havr liked it when i was little back in the 90's when both nick and disney rocked, now its strictly disney. I only would have liked it if the charters were from the 90s like rugrats. i am also mad they took over camp snoppy at moa...i wish it would have atleast been disney
also i was disappointd at the nick hotel, where i slept over a night with friends when i irish danced at disney. we were at the beach club, and my parents droped me off. the water park was alright, at best mediocre. food was terrible, which is why we went back to my hotel for food, the only thing we like was the snacks from the convient store, which is where i gladly bought merchandise from rugrats and the shows i grew up with. but the disney character breakfasts are way better. i felt disappointed except for the charachter offerings, which is like disney. but I think Nick needs to back off and let dinsey do what it does best, and not try to immitate it.
