Never been to Pleasure Island

my gf and I went to PI last september and it was a blast! I've never been to citywalk but I'm sure its great.

My gf and I decided that we were going to play 'around the world of Disney' aka have 1 drink in every bar. Therefore, some of my opinions were made heavily under the influence ;)

What we saw was a great area of bars (some packed, some not) with cheap drink prices and good music / comedy / acting. If you like drinking, dancing, enjoy comedy or just enjoying some adult time away from the parks...this place is great.

We're the type of people that we make our own fun and had a blast! I was downing 'Full Throttle' energy drinks and gin by the time we hit Mannequins and it was the best club. We're into house music and the spinning dance floor and ambiance was great.

We weren't hassled and having disney transportation to take us home was fantastic! Great prices and fun entertainment. If you're not a club person though, you'd more likey enjoy Cirque (which is wonderful).

Good luck, and kungaloosh!

Non-Clubber here but I do have a question. Is the current incarnation of PI a victim of WDW's expansion elsewhere? Is there just so much to do that not as many people make it over to PI? Do fewer people lower the excitement level at PI?

Here's the scoop on P.I... It was starting to die as-is, so Ed Bakler decided to change up the formula, and start opening some things during the day. Exit Jazz Club, enter Raglan and Harley; exit gates, enter un-gated-ness. Ed then leaves to be a part of Adventures by Disney and Djuan Rivers takes over and does his best to patch things up, by adding security at the entrances at night to prevent teens from loitering, getting contracts for more shops, and adding live bands on popular nights where the stage used to be. Now with DTD's new VP in place, I'll be interested to see what is in store for P.I. DW since has a new role and is no longer a club manager, thankfully, but still keeps in touch to see what is going on.

What we can see in the near future is the following:
A Sammy Duval clothing store, featuring surfwear (not as up-scale as summer sands, more like billabong, ect).
A coffee shop
The new boatlaunch (just opened)
Outdoor concerts on busy nights
New drinks at most of the clubs

And that's all I'm aware of right now.

But as far as $$$, being open earlier is actually helping P.I. I do have to say I'm slightly suprised. But having Laughers and/or Jungle Juice outdoor bars open in the afternoon has brought in a decent amount of revenue.

Well I guess in order to enjoy a night at Pleasure Island these days, you'd HAVE to be the "type of people that make your own fun".:lol::lol: Lord knows, PI definitely isn't going to provide that fun for you.:lol::lol:

Sad to hear about the decline of PI. Seemed like a special place back in 2000. My girl and I didn't spend much time in the clubs because the street and the stage were so much fun. Now I'm just too tired to go clubbing after a day at the park. Getting old.

We are going to Disney the weekend of October 19 for the first time without kids. We want to go to Pleasure Island since we have never been there before. What are some of the must do things there? Thanks.

IMHO there are no "must do things" at PI...except maybe Raglan Road.

THEN(before changes): I was wandering through pleasure island with my brother in june '05(we were both under 18 so we sat next to some adults making it look like they were our parents without them knowing lol), and we just walked around and hung out til midnight to see the fireworks and stuff. Just the atmosphere was amazing! The music was loud and pumping, people were everywhere dancing and just having fun. I even saw a few families strolling by with the little ones dancing and having a blast. It just seemed like the happening place at DTD.

NOW(after changes): My last visit in feb of this year brought great disappointment. I was so excited to be there during mardi gras and celebrating with the "big party" going on in pleasure island, but I was faced with a big let-down. The streets were dead, the music was hardly as loud and fun, and the only people dancing in the streets were the drunks that dragged themselves out of the clubs to catch a few beads for the moment. With both stages gone the island feels very different, and not as exciting, because of the music videos being gone and no more "new years bash". Overall, I was so sad to think that all these years I've waited to grow up just to experience pleasure island, and seeing what it has become was disappointing.

I'm truly hoping that Disney has great plans in mind for pleasure island and that in the near future a little magic will cause it to take back its place in DTD as the "place-to-be". Pleasure island has great potential it just lacks the attention it deserves. I guess some execs thought that an irish pub would make up for nearly destroying what made the island what it was, but we can't change the past, we can only hope pleasure island will live on.

Thank you everyone. I'm not a fan of Universal or Citywalk...in fact, it is torture the one time of year that we go with friends. With that being said, I think we'll just stay at the parks for the night...I think we'll have more fun.

Torture? :ROFLOL:

 I thought that was funny too. "Torture" just seems a bit...extreme...to say the least. It's funny how no one can really ever come up with anything specific about Universal in terms of a specific story or event. It's always expressed in generalities such as, "Universal is like Six Flags" or "The people there are rude", and now the newest one...it's "torture".:lol:

I've noticed that at any given time, and with ever growing frequency, there is almost always at least one active thread on these forums about how someone just got back from WDW and had some complaints. I never read those about Universal.

Any more arguments or personal attacks, and this thread is history. Sorry OP, but I think you've read enough to know that some people LOVE PI, some HATE PI, and some think it's just OK.

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion; I'm just not happy with the way some of you are expressing yours. ;)

I've been wanting to go there for a few years. I always find something else to do...and then I forget! :fork:
A couple of years ago my older son wanted a pic with the go go girls that are out front sometimes, unfortunatly they wouldn't give him a kiss on both cheeks which would have made a classic pic, but the pic itself is still great.

Oh another sign of the times! What a bummer! After hitting the parks sun up to late, it is so hard for me to have the energy to go to PI. I would have to make it a night trip with the girls, and that usually is an open door to BAD.
