Don't know if anyone started a tread on this yet but just watched " The Insider " report that with the success of Disney's $ 100 Million franchise High School Musical 2 the group will to be getting together next in High School Musical 3 on the big screen.

Even if you cant stand it you have to admit its a huge smash (and money maker) I knew it was popular, but the fact that it broke all records in cable tv viewing history is unbelievable. See link:

I think it is an interesting discussion as to whether its better business sense to have HSM3 on the big screen or on the Disney channel? Obviously with these kind of numbers, not including how many kids had HSM2 parties and watched it together, it would make a lot of money in theaters.

But Disney also can heavily promote its channel and lineup when the broadcast is in on their station......only time will tell.

One things for sure.......High School Musical will be around for awhile.

Why ? Would it not be a news topic regarding WDW . Currently there's the Pep Rally attraction the more popular and larger song catalog may lead to a full stage attraction...

I personally was tired of hearing about HSM up until I actually sat down and watched the first one and HSM2. It really is a good movie, and has the kind of feel good Disney feeling. I don't see how HSM3 couldn't be in the theaters unless they can't persuade Zac Efron to be in it because he thinks he's above it all now or something  . And the success HSM does have a lot to do with the parks at WDW. With an actual theater for a show or movie, or some kind of attraction, it could be a REAL BIG crowd drawer for the new DHS. Just my two cents.

oh Disney will advertise it just as heavily on Disney Channel (and ABC, I'm sure) if HSM3 is in theatres. Keep in mind, they have been advertising HSM2 since Christmas, so it's no wonder its viewership was so high. I actually thought it was pretty good...several great songs and a clear step up in choreography versus the first film.

We are discussing a film, so it belongs in that forum. If there were a Cinderella 7 direct-to-DVD movie, I would not consider it WDW News and Rumors simply because Cinderella Castle is found in the Magic Kingdom.

My DD has made me watch this way to many times and we have *had to have* every item made known to man-kind :brick: I hear the songs in my sleep!
Let it end man ...:ROFLOL: Please?

So there are "several great songs" I guess we will be watching for a few of those songs being performed at WDW ? Just a side note ..I watched HSM with my 7 year old and afterward , I thought if Disney had shot this in Widescreen the scenes would of been even better .I was waiting to see if they shot in WS for HSM2 . I Bet they are saying the same thing but I guess they felt stick with Full Screen.

I'm glad someone brought up the info about HSM3 possibly being in the theater. I was kinda torn as to why they would put a third installment of a movie into the theater when the first and second were made for TV movies. :( Why try to change something that isn't broken. Sure you will make good money on ticket sales but why not keep the Disney Channel at record audience numbers and give more people the opportunity to sit down and watch a family movie. Not everyone can afford to take the entire family to the theater anyways. Come on Disney you are banking in merchandise, CD sales, DVD sales and ITunes sales....you are obviously doing something right. Why change that? And most importantly why through it up to chance...it could totally bomb especially with blockbusters like Harry Potter out there. All I know is not everything Disney rolls out to the theater does great..ie The Haunted Mansion.

No! Spare us please! :(

Anything new is bad.

So you don't like it. Probably means you are not the intended audience. Lots of kids LOVE it. So get over it, let it make the company money, and be interested in something else.

Thats simple: They can put it on the Disney Channel 500 million times after the big screen and DVD run is over. If someone can't afford to see it in the theater, they can wait for it. Those who can afford it can go and see it on the big screen. Win win for Disney, and really, $6 a head for a matinée isn't that expensive.

As far as having 'blockbusters' out there, it doesn't compete with movies that aren't released in the same timeframe. Disney wouldn't release a movie the same weekend as another young teen/preteen movie. Disney IS Disney after all, they get to choose their release dates. With the tiny amount of money these cost to make, it will be well worth it to release it to theaters.

Yeah, this has been rumored for a while now, even back when they were thinking about calling it Haunted High School Musical. Although none of the stars have seen the script yet, or signed on, it will most likely hit the big screen.

Another interesting note, though the actors have said the HSM 3 will most likely be the last one (where the kids graduate high school and the actors can move on to other projects), I heard on the local news (though, this wouldn't be the first time the local news has been wrong) High School Musical 4 may be in the works.

I know a lot of people on the boards don't care for High School Musical, but I'm a fan. Why? Well, it's nice to have high quality family movies that keep the innocence in childhood a little longer. We loved watching both HSM and HSM2 as a family. The themes in both movies were relevant and promoted upright decisions. My kids are already excited about seeing the new HSM2:School's Out at the Studios in December!!

Whether it belongs in the news and rumors section or not, the movie is a Walt Disney product and in case you haven't noticed so is WDW. This being a potential bit of NEWS(although now it is considered a RUMOR), I wouldn't have put it anywhere else. If it doesn't belong here, sleep well in you're "lab at Yale" knowing the mods will move it in due time. While you bring many interesting discussion points to this forum, your Ivy League attitude continually shines through. Whether you have worked your a$$ off to get there or simply rode on daddy's coat tails, you're no better than anyone here! Your condescending attitude is starting to annoy me. Generally big words are spoken on the internet by people who are afraid to speak them face to face.

He doesn't have Ivy League attitude. If he did, he wouldn't be caught dead posting here. I don't live far from Yale, and you KNOW the ones with that attitude you are talking about from a mile away.

Oh, and he's right, it has nothing to do with WDW. But he doesn't have to say anything, the mods will move it eventually, and people just continually cross post here, so it won't do any good.

Maybe he's right maybe he's wrong, it's not for him to decide who posts what where! I'm just sticking up for the little man. It's what I do! Oh I know the Ivey League type! Let the mods move it. If you don't have anything to post pertaining to the OP then don't post and move on to the next thread. I'm sorry if I crossed lines with my comments I just don't like condescending people. Very rude you know!
