Wild Rumor: Animal Kingdom Flume Ride

I prefaced this with both a rumor tag and the words "Wild Rumor" in the title, so don't get your hopes up, or conversely, snub your noses, too much. Reported on Screamscape.com today:

Screamscape.com said:
New E-Ticket[/B] - (7/26/07) It’s just a wild rumor at this point, but we’ve heard rumbling that Disney may be looking into some kind of new water flume attraction for Animal Kingdom. It’s nothing serious yet, just an idea they’re kicking around apparently for the next big follow up to Everest. Unfortunately, this also means that they are not working on Beastly Kingdom either.

Honestly, I don't think this is what AK needs. They already have Kali, and while that's not a flume ride, it is water oriented. There have been plenty of good ideas thrown around for new attractions, I think this is one of the least necessary. Of course, I also haven't heard details of the theme, etc., so maybe if/once that's announced, I'll change my stance on it.

What do you all think?

There is so much I would like to see happen at the world before we add another ride to AK. I think that this sounds like a great ride. Disney themed flume ride could be awesome. There is just sooo much more I would rather refurb and fix before this happens. Plus the e-tickets needed at MGM.

I'd be impressed if they could top Splash Mountain.

But I'd like to see about 5-6 attractions gutted and replaced at MGM Studios first. That park is not even worth the admission price anymore.

If the concept were a hybrid of sorts ... say a thrill ride, with roller coaster-ish sequences, that climaxes with a flume drop, I would certainly be onboard with this.

I don't know if just any ol' flume, no matter how well-themed, is what AK needs.

But then again, as Screamscape and the OP noted, this is a wild rumor, so I wouldn't be getting my hopes up.

Screamscape saying wild rumor may mean just that. They make sure to distinguish if it is something that's floating around or if it's pretty solid. I agree that another water ride isn't what the park needs. I'd rather see and Atlantis type ride with the toned down soaking though. In the winter, Atlantis is basically a fogging for wetting you. That would be a great option here too. Heck -- The entire Beastly Kingdom could be this single ride. *ducks*

I agree with everyone on this one. Why a flume ride when there are so many more original things that could be done in the park. Yes, we all know that AK needs another major ride to help spread out the crowds, but we fore they do anyting else to this park they need to focus some major attentionon the Studios. Right now, AK stands head and sholders above MGM as a park.

The soaking is the best part!

But I guess it's only fun at Sea World :snore: . I suppose I'd rather not get soaked when there actually are better things to do later in the day.

I wouldnt agree that they dont need another water oriented ride. The animal kingdom gets very HOT and another water ride would be welcome. If you want to put a spin on it what about a hybrid like atlantis over at sea world, coaster/flume. If they dont use the lion king over at the MK then thats what I would like to see go there.

I have been saying in every "what does each park need" thread for the past year that what Animal Kingdom should build is a water coaster hybrid attraction the likes of Atlantis, but on a much larger scale. Glad to see that someone else agrees, even if they are just saying "flume" right now...that could be vague at this point. Done right, this could be an amazing attraction incorporating high-quality dark ride scenes and thrilling rollercoaster sequences both indoor and out.

If this attraction ever came to fruition, and it is even remotely compared to Atlantis ... I will be ... devestated.

When I heard Atlantis was a "hybrid flume," I was expecting some wild thrill ride that plunged me into water ... all I got was one part flume, one part kinda-sorta-fast 2 seconds where my boat took off and landed down a 2 foot flume ... so ...

A severely revamped Atlantis-like (very little Atlantis-like) attraction would be nice ...

Sure, but that ride is just an inkling of what the ride system is capable of. It seems to me that you could do a lot more with it.

I'd like to see Epcot and MGM get flume or rapids-style water rides (something you have a decent chance of getting wet on), too. At least the long-standing Canada/Brother Bear rumors fit that mold for Epcot. But MGM could use some sort of water ride, too. (Well, MGM could use ANY ride right now, but...) Even if the rides were small, they might take some strain off Splash and Kali. And any rides added to World Showcase or MGM would be a good thing!

The Hybrid Flume ride sounds interesting. I've never been on Atlantis at SeaWorld. I'll have to put that on my to-do list.

This is a tough one. I agree with most. I think the ride concept sounds great, but there are other things that need to be done first.

I personally think two or three small attractions to anchor a new land (be it BK or something else) is the next step. Of course, this could easily serve that purpose, but DAK is starting to get a major following, so it should provide more to do, especially in the evening (I know, old argument, but it's still true). HOwever, I realize that this will need a MAJOR budget to build an entire new land, so time will tell.

I am a big fan of a flume ride becoming a resident of AK IF it is done properly and thoroughly. I would hate to see a mediocre cookie-cutter attraction that was spit out to please the impatients. Could EE be receiving a Mountain shaped Sister? I hope so....Having one more mountain in the skyline of AK would be visually pleasing..IMO. On a side note, if this did ever become a reality I would like to see an original concept...Not a tie-in with Brother Bear or any other cheap scapegoat.

Yea atlantis was a so so attempt at a Disney quality ride. The key is the ride system, with the power of the mouse behind it I think you could do some fantastic things with it.
