The Horses at Walt Disney World

Does anyone know how and where the horses that are used at WDW are kept and who cares for them?
WDW uses horses for some transportation vehicles, for some parades, for the 'headless horseman' at MNSSHP, for trail rides at Ft. Wilderness, etc.

We once met and petted a horse named Floyd in the barn in the Magic Kingdom, next to the firehouse. He was being cared for by a wrangler from Texas. He was in a stall at the time.

Does WDW have a central area for the horses?
How do they recruit the people who handle them- I would think they hire experienced wranglers to be that type of cast member.

Just curious.
Tks.

slappy magoo is correct. they are taken care of at fort wilderness, and when they are not doing anything in the MK, but have to later on in the day, they are kept for your viewing pleasure in one of the buildings on main street circle as soon as you walk in.

How are they transported between Fort Wilderness and Main Street without gathering attention? I can't imagine they use the Utilidors.

I remember visiting the stables on our trip in '95. We have several draft horses and it was fun talking to the wrangler and farrier about their jobs.

They do keep them at Fort Wilderness but isnt Circle D the horses you can ride? There are two different stables at Fort Wilderness, one you can go in and pet the horses they actually use at MK and than the trail horses you can go and ride. That was one of my favorite parts of FW :sohappy:

Tri-Circle D is also the same place where you can go Trail Riding as well. Anyway, the horses are dropped off in the morning around 8a.m. in a large trailer pulled by a truck that has the Tri-Circle D Ranch Logo on it. They then get hooked up to the Trolley or Carriages. Others go into the stalls for viewing and to hang out until they are needed. There are definitely more than 3 horses though that are used, I can't remember the exact number but I know it's not above 10.
