i've always wondered this and figured someone here might have a good answer. how come, if the yeti in EE is brown-ish, Disney made almost all of the yeti-goodies in the store after the ride (plush dolls, pins, t-s) with a white colored yeti? I thought I heard a story that some of the plush toys were imported from DL from the Matterhorn for EE's opening, but its been over a year since then, and it seems like there's still white yeti stuff all over. what gives?

I think it's because the white goes over better with marketing. A cute white plush, or an ugly brown plush...
Not totally sure, it's just my guess. I do wish they had at least a few things with it brown.

Perhaps the yeti is like the hare and its fur changes color from season to season.

So the yetis in the shops are actually winter yetis!

Kinda reminds me of the joke...

Bear asks rabbit"do you have any problems with ________ sticking to your fur?"
Rabbit says"no I dont,why?"
Bear then whipes his butt with the rabbit.

I'm putting my money on the cute yeti and white is quite noticeable. Getting off ride i would imagine that little kids would spot that right way

I asked a cast member this last year and he said its supposed to be like that because no one knows what the yeti looks like. Plus they dont want to give away what the yeti looks like from the ride to people who havent ridden it yet

well, its not like they're concealing the yeti's look or identity, because a lot of those things look identical to the yeti, but they are just white. you would think at some point they would start pushing out some brown yetis!! i would have bought one if they looked like what was on the ride!!!

disney, please release the brown yeti merchandise already!

My DW, being a teacher she would prefer that the store at the end would have more traditional things and stay in line with the museum. She thinks the store is alittle dissapointing, because of all the white yeti stuff. Maybe more Tibetin things, like more geared towards Tibet. And in a way I agree with her too.

Time was, they'd build a ride like EE and the gift shop would fit just that description. Now everything has to be cute and immediately read as a Disney product (because, ya know, people might forget where they are) even in a beautifully designed shop like EE's. Shame...

I may be way off here but in regards to WDW importing Matterhorn merch to DAK I don't believe I've ever seen any of that Yeti stuff in Disneyland (let alone really any Matterhorn merch) and I tend to get out to Cali every 2 or 3 years. I was just there last week and didn't see anything outside of a pin.

I've never seen any merchandise on Harold (the abominable snowman in the Matterhorn) at DL.

I haven't seen any Harold plush or cute toys for sale at Disneyland. Occasionally they'll have a pin, or maybe a t-shirt, with Harold on it. But none of this EE Yeti stuff has ever appeared for sale at Disneyland, so I think the whole "Imported from Disneyland" rumor was just a cop out answer from a year ago.

The most likely answer here is that the Florida Merchandise folks simply didn't like the look of the Yeti that the Imagineers made for the new ride. They probably thought he wasn't cute enough to sell well, so they changed him a bit and gave him white fur to better his chances of making a sale.

And that brings us to this question.... What is the Expedition Everest Yeti's name? Harold obviously has a cousin out in Florida, but what is his name?

I don't think there's an "official" name like Harold's. Wasn't there a thread with name suggestions back when EE first came out? I just call him Jim Bo Bob....:lookaroun I think I got that from the thread.
