Update from my side of the border.

Yesterday marked the start of track and field "playoffs" of sorts. Before the races started, I made two bets: a) it would start storming just after my event (1500m), and b) it would storm between 4:00 and 5:00. I won both. :p Oddly enough, they announced the cancellation of all remaining track events when I was about 800m into the race. About a half-hour later, it stormed something FIERCE. Doors whipped open, leaves slapped against the face, driving rain and lightning all around... God, I want to move to Florida NOW. :lookaroun

Second: Had to do this major newspaper project on To Kill a Mockingbird. Finally handed it in today, thus freeing up my weekend, bringing me to my next point:

3. I might just be going to Cedar Point this weekend. :drevil:

It does depend on your age. Starting young like at 25 is great. The older you are, the more you need to contribute. I'm 25 and right now, I contribute 10% of my salary to retirement. I'm told you should try to max out your contributions but I don't want to do that just yet. Maybe when I make more money.

If you don't have one already, you should get a Roth IRA. We have one, and I'll be honest i don't really understand it all... but you can't cash out on it until you're 60 or for 30 years which ever comes first. We can put in up to $2,500 a year and it gains a nice amount of interest. Our financial advisor said it was the best way to safely save for retirement.

So that'd be my suggestion. :)
Thanks guys. All I have now is a Roth. It's great for young saver like me since I put post-tax dollars in it - so it grows tax free. Meaning when I take out money later on I don't have to pay taxes on it then. I've never started a 401(k) or (in DH's upcoming case) a 403(b) so I was just interested. I'll have to do some research. DH doesn't have any fund just yet.

Oh no... what'd the plumber have to say?

Sigh... well, when they built our neighborhood they used this new-fangled pipe to connect the house to the water main... well apparently they were all faulty, and ours is leaking water under the foundation of the house and collecting in a bug-breeding friendly ditch in the back yard.

To get it replaced and hooked up to the inside of the house will cost several thousand dollars...:dazzle: :dazzle:

And I had just saved up enough for a crib!

Stupid expenses... I'm thinking of going and getting a part time job.. just something to have a little extra income coming in... it's the only way we can manage, it looks like..

*GIANT HUGS* ughhhhhhhhhh real life sucks. :(

I'm so sorry sweetie. What a pain in the bahunkas. Is it a new neighborhood? I'd go after the builder! And if it's an older one - be sure to contact the city, you'd be suprised at what they're responsible for even if they don't want to admit it. We just had to replace all our pipes under the house and out to the main line b/c the people before us did it wrong - and the city ended up paying for over half of it b/c they were responsible for 30 feet away from the main line... which ended up being over half way to our house! You never know!

No can do... ALL of the houses near us need to get the pipe replaced on their own dime. There's nothing the builder is responsible for. I'd LOVE it if they were, but they're not. :(

You saw last October's CP Photo TR right? It's the only one I've ever done.

Like I said, I have no idea if I'm even going. I need to make a few calls, and I'd be going with my uncle.

Quick hugs for all! I haven't had time to catch up, and we're heading out to DS' Honors Night tonight, so I have to go make dinner in a few minutes...

If four girls were all going for their first time, how long should they plan to be there? Any place in particular we should stay?

:fork: That is awful sweetie! What about your homeowner's insurance? If there's a possibility of it cracking the foundation - which can happen if water sits under your house, perhaps they'd step in and help fix a problem before it get's any worse... idk I am so sorry girl. This is just a stink thing to deal with. :(

True. You do need to enjoy a cheese on a stick next time. :lookaroun

Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Hopefully it'll work out! :sohappy:

Go for a long weekend. Get a ride and slide pass which gives you CP tickets and tickets to Soak City. (FUN!) I'd stay at the hotel Breakers if I were you - it's gorgeous and right on site. You can walk from your hotel to CP in the morning. Or Lighthouse Cabins... but those are a little more like camping and less like a girls getaway weekend. ;)

Go to www.cedarpoint.com then click on hotels then online reservations - you can save by getting a package deal. :)

(Danny can give you a ton more advice - but this is just my personal take on it...)
