Disney in July

A friend of a friend says that she goes to Disney in July and follows Tour Guide Mike's plan and never waits more than twenty minutes in line for anything. I think she's crazy. Is this really possible?

I really don't like going in June, July, or early August. Its just way too crowded...and I've waited longer than 20 minutes that's for sure.

Sure its possible - If she's in the Park for rope drop and does one ride and then Fast Pass for the second. From there on in your friend will be stood in line like everyone else.
July is extremely busy before the American schools go back

We'll be there in July again and we plan on waiting in lines. No matter what we know that we'll have a great time. Been there in July, August, October, and December and had a blast every trip.

We usually go in July or August...its hot and crowded and the lines for most rides can be well over an hours wait.

I went last July. I enjoyed it. It was hot and it was crowded, but we were with 2 2 year olds and so we didn't so much care for riding the thrill rides (except Everest). We got to the parks at opening and were ready for a break around lunch time. During the mornings we utilized the fast pass system and we never waitied more than 20 minutes for the lines we waited in. We would head back to the parks around dinner time and in the evening is when we would do the shows and large loading attractions. Because so many people get let in at once these lines too were rather small in the evenings probably because most people would be doing them in the afternoons to get a break from the sun.

I remember one day at the MK we were able to do POTC, Jungle Cruise, HM, Peter Pan, Small World, the Carosel, Pooh, TTA and Buzz all before lunch. After dinner at Peco Bill's we did Tiki Birds, Country Bears, Toon Town, Pooh's Playground, the parade and Wishes. We split 2 mornings at AK with 2 evenings at EPCOT. And we only did 1 day at MGM. If you plan ahead and don't sleep in on "park days" July can be fun.

We always go in July or August because of having kids in school. It's really hot and crowded, but by using fast pass and EMH we can always get in everything we want to do. Lines are frequently longer than 20 minutes though. I've even waited more than 20 minutes in the fast pass line for soarin'.

I went in July in '05 and - to get back on your topic - I don't see how doing a tour plan could have you waiting no longer than 20 minutes. Even taking into account doing the longer wait lines in the morning or right before closing and fastpassing, it just seems impossible. People get to the parks earlier in the summer I think b/c it gets so hot in the afternoon. But lines are still long in the afternoon as well. Unless there's a few of the frequent 30 min down-pours throughout the day, I don't see how this is possible.

So, yes, I do think your friend is crazy.

We go every July for my DD B'day and yes the crowds are heavy but if you know your way around the parks you can hit all of the big rides without to much line standing. A few pointers don't hit MK on Mondays as most people start their vacations at MK, use the early entry mornings to hit the "E-ticket" rides. We actually like having the crowds around as its part of the magic as we meet at least two new families every trip that enhanced our WDW magic.

July; hot and humid, but so what. After you get acclimated, you take everything in stride. (It's kind of like fishing; when somebody asks, when's the best time, you say, anytime you can go; same with Disney)

We have gone in July twice and both times I am pretty sure we waited alot longer than 20 minutes, or maybe it just felt like longer because it was hotter than HELL!

Yes it is possible. Just as we are going next week....one of the two busiest of the year, one that I would never do if I had a choice of the time...but with that said, We get to the parks at rope drop, avoid MK on weekends and we usually have about 2-2 1/2 hrs. of normal waits, combine that with FP and you can have half the day with normal ride waits. Afternoons hit the pool and relax, do shows and shorter wait time rides in the evening. It is doable.

And even in July, we have been there when World Showcase in Epcot and MGM seem like the first week in November. But then there is that heat, oppressive humidity and downpours every day at 2:00

We go the first two weeks of July every year. Hot and crowded YES! But fun fun fun.

Our best tips - eat at odd times. We usually have lunch the moment the resturants open 11 am I think. Dinner will usually be very late.

Parks are open very late. When everyone gets hot and grumpy we head to hotel crank down air conditioning, shower and nap so we can hit the parks for the late summer hours when the scorching sun has started to fade.

Learn the art of Fastpass, use it - in between, go to less crowded attractions or ones like Philharmagic that load tons of people at once.

Lots and lots of sunblock!!

Have fun, see you there!

Crowds are part of the experience. Before FP, we invented games to play to pass the time. One game which we still play is "I've got a place". It is a 20 questions type game with the place being somewhere at WDW. There is regular i.e the place is the Haunted Mansion and cutthroat i.e. the floating candleabra in the never-ending hallway at the Haunted Mansion. Fun game and it was great to see how the kids got more observant as we traveled through the parks. Another game we play is "how do I get there from here?" Someone is given 2 WDW locations and has to come up with the quickest route from point A to point B.

We also enjoy meeting other WDW enthusiasts by chatting in queue with others. Summer = crowds, we make the most of them.

When I was a teen, for about 4-5 yesrs, we would go for 2 weeks in August. We used to play a massive game of Hearts. we would start the game in the first line we waited in. We would continue it in each line until the end of the day. We would let the winner of each day choose the last atraction of the day. We thought it was a great way to pass the time.

I live in Florida so I know better. I don't got in July or August. Ever. It's miserable, crowded and just not worth it. I think you'll find most residents agree because we know what it's like to be in brutal Florida summers. Summers are for indoor (read: air conditioned) fun here.
