How soon do you get the luggage out?

First question is: do you count down the days from check in, or do you count down the days to the road trip?

We check in 10 weeks from Monday, but we hit the road 10 weeks from tommorrow. And, the way I see it, vacation starts once you shut the car door, click the seat belt and back out of the driveway.

Either way, I'm really getting pumped up about this trip, even though it's still 70 days away. But, even though it is more than two months away still, 10 or 15 minutes ago, I went to the back and got the suitcases and brought them back to the extra bedroom where they will stay until packed and time to leave. And I will probably be putting things in the suitcases (things we won't need in the meantime, of course) over the next few weeks.

Is anyone else as eager and obsessive as I am? How far in advance do you get the luggage out?

I count it to like the week before the vacation, because that's part of the build up to me... last minute packing, buying, doing things, etc!

I'm very obsessive and eager and I think getting the luggage out between 6-8 weeks if perfectly normal... heck, our luggage is still out from our December 10th trip lol

I countdown from the time I leave 75 days 4 hours and 26 minutes.

As far as the luggage, I keep my luggage stored in my closet so it's always there  I already have a few things put in the suitcases, like bathing suits, beach towels and some toiletries. I'm very obssessive with the planning as well. We're talking Excel spread sheets  :ROFLOL:

You're a Mom and you are able to pinpoint the minute and hour that you are leaving? :ROFLOL: You must have that whole family under your thumb and well tranied. LOL

It's just me and my wife going and I can't imagine knowing for sure what time we are actually leaving. I'm shooting for 8 or 9. So, maybe I should tell my wife 6 or 7, so that by the time she's finished dragging her behind, we'll actually be leaving on time after all.

You are perfectly normal by my standards. My bags aren't packed yet because the weather keeps changing for our trip. South LA weather/WDW weather can be similar. The other stuff is packed-- first aid kits, ponchos, sunscreen. DS has packed/repacked his toy bag about 25 times.
Again, you are perfectly normal!:animwink: Aren't we all?!

My vacation is 148 days away and I already have the basic necessaities ready to go. I usually start packing my carry on first then I start on the luggage. I get so excited when I start packing because it just reminds me that my vacation to disney world is coming soon.:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: I start packing about 3 months ahead and if I am too inpatient I start even earlyer. Just curious how many suitcases do you bring?

One big one, one medium sized one and a carry-on bag.

 We are about 9 hours (including the time change) from WDW so we always drive down. For us, it's easier to drive if DH goes to bed early and rests up while I get all the final stuff done and put the kids to bed. At 11:30pm I wake DH, he get's a shower, I fill the thermos' with coffee and put the kids in their car seats and we leave the driveway at midnight. We stop once to fuel up and get some breakfast and we pull up to the resort right at 9am. This time it will be even easier because our niece is going with us so I'll have her to help me pack the car.

I leave the third week of March, and I took my suitcases out Christmas Break. Since we live up North, we store our summer clothes in the winter. As I do laundry for the next few months, I add some of the summer clothes and pick and choose and lay the clothes in the suitcases. I have a clear envelope folder that automatically goes in the carry on, which I immediately place our passports and any other travel documentation as they come in. I also pack colouring books, card games, etc., that my son gets at Christmas and put them into the carry on before he notices they are "missing." It is always a nice suprise for him on the plane to have something "new" for the trip.

So far we have one medium roller suitcase each, and one carry on each. I don't expect to have any more. (There is just me and my DS).

I am figuring the end of March to be quite warm, and am only packing one pair of jeans and one sweatshirt for each of us.

We count from the day we're leaving, whether we're flying or driving. I agree that vacation starts as soon as we pull out of the driveway. The drive down to Florida is an adventure in itself and we have all of our little landmarks along the way that we look out for (barbell guy in Pennsylvania [he's on top of a gym but he's pretty big and can be seen from the highway], South of the Border, the little road stop where we get Pizza Hut to-go in Jaratt, VA [no more stopping for a sit-down lunch], SotB road signs, Peoria [inside family joke], etc).

And for the person who asked how many suitcases we bring: we (myself and my parents) each bring one large soft-side rollie suitcase; I bring at least one extra tote (usually my Magic Kingdom Club bag); and I bring a purse/backpack; and sometimes I bring my iBook and related accessories; AND don't forget my pin bag; my mom brings the tote with all of the maps and travel info in it, as well as medicine, the travel diary, etc; and my dad brings NOTHING because he thinks men don't need to carry bags, but I usually make him carry one of my bags at least to & from the car. This varies slightly when we fly but I still bring as much stuff as I can (have to decide between the iBook and pin bag when flying and honestly the iBook is less of a hassle [my pin bag is a threat to national security, you know]). When we drive, we really load up the car. We bring a cooler too (we're a Pepsi family and must have it on-hand at all times) that plugs into a cigarette lighter or in newer cars just an outlet. And we generally come home with several Disney shopping bags full of stuff and maybe a couple of swords (my dad & I collect swords [mostly LotR] and we used to buy them at the sword store in Belz which is sadly gone now).

And now you know more than you ever wanted to know about my family's travel habits.

We're 9 hours from WDW too (not including the time change which makes sense since I'm about an hour from you. lol ). We always leave about 8:30 central time so that we arrive at 6:30 eastern time. We have an ice chest in the car with drinks and several snacks. We stop in Dothan to top off the tank and then again around Lake City.

When is only my mom and I , or my husband and I, I don't need to start packing as early as when we take the kids. Then I start throwing things in about 3 months in advance. Only things we won't need or things I bought just for the trip.. If I didn't, I'd forget things. I usually start a month in advance when I'm only packing for myself. I get so excited!

We live up North too, so when it's time to put the summer clothes away, I pack my swimsuit and some of my favorites into the suitcase so they're ready for our February trip. I keep the toiletries packed year yound for spur-of-the-moment trips, so all I have to do when it's time to go is throw in a few seasonal things.

Leaving in 6 days!!!! :sohappy:

We are 20 days 22 hours and 15 mins from boarding the plane, the bags have been pulled out for about 2 weeks now, one is just about totally packed, and the other is getting there, I have pulled all our summer stuff out, our bathing suits and all that fun stuff.

I usually bust out the luggage sometime after I've bought the plane ticket but way before I actually leave...after I've gotten my plane ticket, then it's my way of celebrating because I'm no longer thinking about going-- I *am* going!

Speaking of which, the next plane ticket will be bought in the next couple weeks and I'm starting to scope out some of the summer clothes for the trip...woooo! :sohappy:

I write on the calender a count down in the previous month, so right now we are at 25 days till we hop a plane and arrive in WDW. It keeps our sons looking forward to something, today we arranged DME for our friend in Ok., so once we get the paperwork she will be able to show up and enjoy the wonderful world of Disney. The bags come out at least a week before we leave and a list is made almost at the same time, ie. what clothes to bring, how much socks, underware etc. It helps keep things together so we don't go too crazy before we leave.
