I haven’t played since the DS when my dog chewed up my copy of Diamond that was only missing 6 Pokémon.
I played Scarlet for like 30 minutes, gave up and gave my sister my copy because I was so done with it. I've played indies with a significantly lower budget that ran better than Scarlet/Violet.

So you didn’t try the $450 patch for it? Lol

Well I guess Xbox wasn't happy with selling almost no consoles. So they decided, let's get to actual zero. Lol

What a joke. The standard series x is now $650! And the S is $450! I really don't have many words except, Wow. Well, here's hoping the next generation bounces back. I highly doubt it as this seems, at least for Sony and Microsoft, a ploy to soften the next gen. They can't jump to $850 to $1000 of the current gen is $200 to $300 respectively.

I've got a back log that could last me ten plus years easy. So I'm fine until the industry gets it's head of their butt.

Anyone that complained about the price of the Switch 2, their head is going to explode when next gen comes around lol. If anything it’ll finally convince all those PS4 owners to finally get a PS5 if prices for those haven’t gone insane as well. That’s going to have just as long of a tail as the PS4 has had out of pure necessity because I can’t see the PS6 being priced anywhere away from almost exclusively for enthusiasts with money to burn at this rate. Consoles really are becoming like PCs.

Exhibit A. right here! Lol

I would be shocked if Sony doesn't follow suit, Nintendo as well. Sorry, tinfoil hat time. At this point what we are seeing is what looks to be something that is all 3 companies working together on prices. There is no reason that 5 years in, 8 for switch 1, should be significantly more than when they originally released.

For Sony and Microsoft, especially Microsoft. PCs or some sort of hybrid is the way they believe it should go. And to do that you need the prices well above $250 or $300. So the endgame seems to be, if you want the ultimate high-end experience, you will pay a premium price. $900-$1000+ for their hybrid. And for all the people who can't justify it because of the cash. They will just keep pushing streaming. Maybe they finally get a dedicated box for streaming. A Roku but for Xbox and PlayStation. Microsoft already planned it at one time.

Nintendo is willing to go along with all this because they are fine with overall prices going up because in the end, they'll always be the lowest option in general. So pushing the prices higher only benefits them. We have little indication that the Nintendo crowd will flinch at all. It will be an interesting next couple years in gaming for sure.

If you have any interest in playing future Nintendo games I suggest you get one before the year ends. The games will come and the hardware price right now for what you’re getting really isn’t bad.

They’re definitely going up but as more of a market leader I expect Sony to take the Nintendo approach and raise prices across different items to avoid such a huge jump on the hardware by itself. Xbox hasn’t raised prices on accessories this time, just hardware. Eventually the PS4 will be dropped by developers and Sony will need the PS5 to be an entry option. I also don’t think there’s any collusion going on. It’s just tariffs.

I laugh at the people who think the PlayStation handhelds rumored price of around $400 is going to still be accurate by the time it launches lol.

My plan is getting a switch 1 second hand. As I've said, I'm not a huge Nintendo guy. I respect what they've done. I was there for the crash in the 80s. The NES was what brought games back in the states big time. I finally saved enough money to buy one. I went to the store and came home with a sega master system instead. The only two Nintendo devices I picked up at launch are the OG gameboy and the GBA. Do I wish Nintendo didn't jump down this same road as the others? Yes. I was all ready prepared to pick a switch 2. But pricing and physical media changed my mind. I'm now looking into a steam deck but I'm not sure.

That's why I said tinfoil hat time. 😜
The companies do talk more than most think. The problem is, tariffs don't explain the Xbox at all. I believe it all comes down to ABK. Xbox was losing, is losing, and Microsoft needs to start getting some Roi. That's why the strategy changes have been so drastic. Gotta get back that 70bil. Lol

Sony actually has the most to lose out of all 3 companies. Microsoft doesn't need Xbox. And as I said, Nintendo is fine, they're kinda on their own island. If Sony doesn't have PlayStation, what do they have? So they need tread lightly. That's why this should be so interesting in the next few years.

The Steam Deck is a solid piece of hardware even though I’ve been way more into my Switch 2 lately. It hasn’t gone up in price either.

EA is going private and will be owned by Saudi Arabia and other private equity firms. Crazy.
Nothing really shocks me in this industry anymore. EA is terrible anyway so I'm not really worried about this. Could it get worse? Sure, it can always get worse. When I first read this, I thought, maybe bioware can get sold to a developer that might give a crap. Bioware doesn't really seem like a company a private equity firm would really care about.

Nah, BioWare’s going out back to the EA graveyard. I’ll be shocked if that’s NOT the outcome.

That's the likely outcome. Buuuutt I'll settle for EA closing it down, than the equity firm deciding to sell off the bioware assets. I'm always going to have fingers crossed that games like mass effect and dragon age go to a proper home. But I guess what home could that be. It's all a bunch of messed up. Lol

The bad news just keeps coming from Microsoft.
I honestly wish Valve would enter the market and actually be competitive. The industry needs it. As it stands Sony will be alone in home consoles and Nintendo owns handhelds. A singular Steam console that’s put up in retail could really shake things up.

I'd say I'm surprised, but who are we kidding at this point. I'll go back to when I said this is an exit strategy to leave hardware. It feels like they just don't want to upset investors while killing sales enough to say, "well, we tried. We're just going to have to go 3rd party."

As far as steam goes. I've always wondered why they haven't released a dedicated steam console. It would seem to make a ton of sense. The end game for everyone seems to be pointing at streaming. No expensive hardware to lose money on, low barrier to entry.... But there's one big problem. It's just not close at this point. We are years off in my opinion for most people. As impressed as I was with Xbox game streaming, it was for from something I'd rely on.

I’m not talking about streaming. I’m talking about actual hardware like a Steam Deck but it’s a box for your TV. Same feature set but obviously more powerful. At this point though the play would be to launch it around the PS6 and make it equivalent to that while the Steam Deck 2 would be around PS5 like the Sony handheld is rumored to be.

Yes that's what I'm talking about as well. I was just talking about streaming is why there's no dedicated console. As an industry, streaming seems to be the endgame in their mind. My issue with that is we are still a ways off from that being a good enough replacement.

A Steam Console could be the first all digital system. That step needs to be made before getting people on board with all streaming.

I agree. The problem is the industry just thinks it can bulldoze it's way to anything. I think all nextgen will be digital only. I believe the ps5 pro showed us what the play will be. An add on drive to play your old media if you want it. But as far as games coming on a disc? I don't think Sony or Microsoft will have any. I also see the switch 2 ending up a lot like the Xbox was this Gen. By the end you won't see too many games physical.
