Universal eats Disney's lunch at GTA

I could care less about the attractions part as those tend to go to new attractions. IMO the two awards in that list Disney and Universal should be paying attention to is the best guest experience and best kids area.

Dollywood beats them in those categories

This just in, billion dollar company beats another billion dollar company with their $7 billion dollar new toy during a slow year!! This will show them!! Disney is going to be shaking in their boots as they continue to make more money than last quarter and still have crazy demand.

Disney isn’t worried because they know they have something Universal doesn’t. The fandom. The Disney fandom is insanely popular. They have most of the most profitable and successful fandoms all under one company. They have countless hotels (Universal doesn’t operate any), a huge amount of people who get the Disney cards, DVC, exclusive clubs, cruises, their own bonafide undivided streaming service, they have their own giant expos that fill arenas. Disney isn’t worried because there is no reason to. Universal is playing catch up and trying to get their brand recognition up. Universal was Comcast’s play to save face and try and turn their horrible name around and it’s doing decently and I’m happy about that because more competition and options are better! But when it comes down to it, it’s not a REAL competition and Disney knows that. They have over half of the most visited parks and Universal isn’t even in top 3 as a company. It’s still back in 4th place.

What’s the difference between best dark ride and best attraction installation of 2025 when they are both dark rides?

Honestly both are deserving, but I’m curious what is the stronger award?

My guess is they wanted both to get something so they split it up that way

I feel like best new attraction (the one BatM got) is usually the one I hear more about in a typical year, but this was obviously a bit atypical

There's been much talk in these forums, and elsewhere, that the projects Disney's currently working on will disappoint.... based on some recently completed projects (like the EPCOT hub redo).
I would really love to have an accountant look into the whole Communicore fiasco and question why someone was not fired.

Seems like Disney doesn't care.....and I believe they think the Epcot Hub is fine and not worth being concerned about.... And The Zach has moved on higher in the company and everyone patted themselves on the back for a job well done...There are plenty of people out there that will gladly defend the Epcot Makeover as being just what the park needed and brilliant... Many on here... So that failure doesn't even register...
It’s a clear example of someone failing upward. And by choosing to work on the Abu Dhabi he clearly has no problem laboring in circumstances that directly conflict with his personal beliefs and lifestyle, so compared to that compromising his design prerogatives should be no big deal.

To be fair a lot of people do that, sometimes even without knowing it.

I can assure you they do not think the EPCOT hub is fine (especially the ground lights) but it has become more of a "We just dropped millions on this and it's ultimately just walkways so we have bigger fish to fry right now" type of situation. It will get ripped up and redone again, just not for a good while unfortunately.

I hope they did enough infrastructure work the next iteration will be easier to implement. There was a lot of work the world will never see and hopefully solved the unplanned Epcot fountain showings.

This is both their blessing and their curse.
It is. But at the same time, I can’t say Its much of a curse. There are many times I heard Disney do something controversial, people say they’re done with the fandom, then come back anyway because there really is nothing quite like it. They’ve positioned themselves as a completely one of a kind product with one of the largest groups of fans in anything. I’m pretty sure if you tally up total fandoms in the world, Disney is probably the single biggest company of “fans”, even when not necessarily the biggest company monetarily

While I understand the competition factor and there is some truth to it, the companies are playing two different games at this point. Disney is trying to court a high income, brand-focused audience. They want the merch crowd. They are a "lifestyle" company. Universal is focused on a more traditional theme park crowd. As time is going on, while there is a good bit of overlap for the casual guest, I'm beginning to see more and more that the focus audiences feel different (speaking from the company's view - not necessary the public view).

We're also talking about Disney and Comcast. So, this is 100% about financials on paper to appease institutional shareholders. Comcast just gets a bit more flexibility, since theme parks aren't their current primary cash cow.

I only come here for the people who can reminisce about the glory days with me. I will likely never set foot on Disney property again., in Florida at least. It really is like being in an abusive relationship, to me at least.
