Batman helped usher in a new era of blockbusters and was a worldwide phenomenon. Keaton had a remarkable career since.

What is Zegler’s follow up to this film? Start serving that humble pie to the haters.
Again, I said I am happy for Zegler, and the praise she is receiving surrounding her role of a well-known character which many (for whatever reason or excuse they want to use) deemed her unworthy of. The movie itself could sink or swim for an assortment of reasons, but her performance is not going against it from what people are saying. She has a bright future ahead of her and I am happy for that.

I can only imagine how heated this would have gotten had the internet been around back in the 80's when this was announced:

Does anybody here remember the outrage when Michael Keaton was announced to play Batman in the 1989 film? It was brutal.
I can only answer for myself, I was happy. I still have the 1989 poster to prove it:

Over all the moves in my life it has survived and is now in my man cave. At some point I need to frame it as it’s still holding up but crap, it’s coming up on 40 years old.

Good for you and her. I’m not sure many of the “haters” here have ever criticized her singing ability or general talent, but rather that the approach to the entire production has seemed off and doomed for failure.

Yeah but this idea of its “mostly men”.

They didn’t have this circled in their calendar anyways.
And what give you indication that isn't true? Your wife and her friends fall outside of that "mostly", but still doesn't show that is not a true statement. I mean the statement could be false, but until otherwise proven its a valid opinion of where things sit based on that posters perspective. Just like yours is counter to that.

So maybe take down the snark as it wasn't a slight against anyone in particular, it was just an opinion.

So why is this movie going to so badly ( according to early estimates ) underperform ?
Is it? We've had one day of box office previews so don't know how you can say that. And of the target audience, kids and parents, its had mostly positive tracking with over half the parents marking it down as a definite watch. Which if that continues as its theatrical run goes on will be a better outcome than anticipated, ie another Mufasa.

Some of you all like to dig the grave and bury the body before its even dead. How about we do something different and just see how it plays out before pronouncing something as "bad and underperforming".

To be clear, without what you call “social engineering” we’d still have the racial politics of 1928. Making things better takes conscious effort.
You're living in a false reality that is 100 years old. That's on you. However, it is not the responsibility of the rest of the public (and/or Disney) to pretend it is actual reality. Maybe social engineering was necessary (or productive) 100 years ago (or 60 years ago), but I vehemently disagree that it is necessary (or productive) now. More importantly, for the purposes of this discussion in this thread, the public has demonstrated over and over and over that it disagrees with you. Has Disney received the message yet? I don't know. I hope so.
