DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

I love that they're doing this, but at the cost of Muppets it's a really hard bargain. I don't care about a Monsters Inc show at all. Keep Muppets and build this next to it.

You just gotta hope they decide it’s better on the budget and ROI and it ends up at Sunset Showcase after Villains.

Not impossible, but very unlikely.

Totally disagree. What makes Guardians unique is the controlled spinning, amongst other factors.

While the vertical lift for Monsters isn't new information, it still has a pretty cool WOW factor that gets me pretty psyched for this attraction. This is shaping up quite nicely.
Also disagree. Imagine an uncontrolled spin past the moon where you aren’t seeing the moon but staring into darkness… or staring at the car behind you. I’ve ridden an uncontrolled spinning coaster, it does not “add”. If uncontrolled is better let’s make Haunted Mansion random uncontrolled spinning.

So are we finally feeling more confidence the major D23 bullet points (sans Villains) are likely happening?

Maybe villains will get an announcement at Destination D23 along with Avatar at DCA.

Oh I think Villains will very likely happen (it and Avatar were both again at SXSW on a slide)... but I was trying to be realistic and meet people in the middle with that comment. 😂

Avatar is an Iger legacy project, plus has very good financial justification from DAK. Villains seems like a D'Amaro legacy project, so it seems stable unless he is turfed. Everything else is pretty far along otherwise.

It would be better for you but worse for most people.

I don't believe Disney should be building anything more thrilling than what they already have and if they are smart, they will keep all new attractions on the mid to lower end of the thrill scale and instead focus on setting, story and tech.
I would be all for that if they could go back to the level of storytelling and immersiveness they once did. I'm talking about going back to 15 minute dark ride length, full of AAs.

Excited for this coaster, do we think the rotating capability of the seat will be used during the ride like Guardians or just for the effect of the vertical lift?

I didn’t say it would slow down. I also didn’t say there would be show scenes. I just said the spinning feature would allow it.

The implementation could be similar to Guardians. Or it could be a feature they only use for load and unload. Who knows.

I wonder if the spin could be controlled by the track. Similar how to omnimovers rotate

As far as show scenes go, I can only see there being one from the initial leaving the station before entering the main gravity building and maybe something after the final brake run.

I made this earlier trying to make some sense of a possible layout.

I doubt they would invest more money in a similar mechanism to guardians with the only purpose being for loading and unloading guests. There will most likely be physical sets or screens (similar to guardians) in the main show building (doors?) and if they have the rotating mechanism they will use it.

Appreciate the work

I could see a few sets involved as you go through some doors to different scenes or at least see them as you bank curves, etc

Was thinking this myself.
