News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner

It does go up, but I believe it’s only for the lobby and valet parking which is all on the second floor. Technically, the parking isn’t underground per se, just on the first floor since there aren’t any rooms on the first floor to my knowledge.

Anyways, yes the road goes up for the entrance to the lobby. Parking is technically on the first floor, but they built up a lot of infrastructure around it so it’s pretty “underground” in some areas.

Yes, similar to how “street level” at MK is actually 14’ above natural grade, to provide for the Utilidors, etc.

Assuming you mean kinda’ in the area I have highlighted in green, that looks pretty far away from Kidani. And also, the current Skyliner routes already go over roads and water, so not so much an issue there, probably. The issue, or question, from me is how complicated it looks like it would be for Guests to access the station with having to cross Osceola Pkwy. without an elevated walkway, or other option so as not to interfere with the traffic on that pretty busy road…?

Here's my green location, it's not across the street it's pretty much along the main entrance. Baby Blue is an example of the route it would proceed going. It still would be the best alternative transportation even if it couldn't connect straight with Kidani!

And, that’s the rub, isn’t it…?
The current Skyliner location between AoA and Pop is as easily accessible from both, and those are “value” (although many would argue otherwise regarding AoA ;)) resorts.
Jambo House and Kidani are deluxe/DVC.
Pretty sure your location would be a real issue for those that prefer Kidani. That would be one looooong walk, especially at the end of the day/night.
Also, with the bus situation as it currently exists for that whole resort, and all the complaints in regard to such, I really can’t see them making it even crazier bus-wise to more quickly (or not) get Kidani Guests to your Skyliner station location (Jambo bus stops).
And, as has been posted before, it’s never gonna’ happen anyway (at least not in my lifetime ;)), so this whole discussion is, mostly, pointless.

Just annoyed with all setbacks
but I mean it's not new for a skyliner crossing over a parking lot or one major road. 😉 Here you go Kidanian's!

P.S. I love these what if posts, one can dream lol

Skyline > Monorail. Need more skyliner.

I book almost always at a Skyliner resort for it. The quiet and ease of getting to the parks outweighs the inconvenience of it being down time to time.

It's the opposite for me -- i.e., the presence of the Skyliner would make me less likely to stay somewhere -- but the current routes don't actually affect anything for me because I wouldn't stay at any of those resorts regardless. They're all basically bottom of the list in terms of places I'd want to stay (unless you throw Boardwalk/Beach/Yacht in as Skyliner resorts but I don't think they really count).

We enjoy riding the Skyliner but I hope they don’t expand it, or if they do they put a lot more thought into where they put it.

We love afternoon pool time and our only CBR stay post Skyliner we were in Jamaica, very convenient to the station but it was very awkward to use the pool near our building with the Skyliner overhead, we felt like fish in a fishbowl. That resulted in a long walk to the loud pool or just skipping the pool altogether, something that was frustrating at Disney hotel prices. I doubt we’ll ever stay at CBR again it was so frustrating. We also felt it really diminished the overall look of the resort.

The Skyliner is a fun form of transportation but a gondola style ride is designed to primarily go in a straight line, that really limits where they can put it without having to make compromising design choices to make it work.

It's really only a good option for very short routes (like the ones in use now). When you start trying to plan routes that would have to traverse a few miles, the low speed and straight line requirement becomes a much bigger problem.

Interesting - I think the Skyliner adds to the look and feel at CBR by giving it some kinetic energy

It's our favorite place and where we stay elsewhere (including deluxe) my kids say they wish we were at CBR, and Skyliner is a big part of it

Had they disguised the poles as palm trees or lighthouses, or even painted them to match the surrounding buildings I think we could have overlooked the cables and gondolas (since they are so high up) but everywhere we walked (in the Jamaica area) we were passing gigantic gray steel supports in an otherwise tropical paradise, it just felt very out of place.

Had they just shifted it a couple degrees to go over the parking lot I think it would have been 1000% better, that likely would have meant rerouting the road though and added a lot of cost.

Can’t believe it’s been 8 years since this crazy time:
An interesting modification to the original drainage permit for the DHS projects has been filed with the South Florida Water Management District.

The dotted yellow lines in the first image show the new work areas in this permit. The top one circled if blue will be covered in gravel and become a new laydown yard for construction staging. The one circled in blue at the bottom will also be covered in gravel so will probably be a new construction entrance. The two small areas by CBR are just small changes for runoff control.

The other two areas are more interesting. The both involve the modification of existing bodies of water and the construction of new buildings. The second and third images show the details of these, the red one is first, followed by the green one.

I think making the towers into palm trees or lighthouses would have looked extremely tacky and made them stand out even more. There’s actually only two towers in the entire Jamaica section. There’s several real Caribbean islands including Jamaica that have similar systems in real life. So if anything it adds authenticity.

Not a Skyliner fan. They are down too much, and Mickey justifies not running buses to Epcot and the Studios because the Skyliner and boats are available. And the boats and skyliner generally both stop because of thunderstorms, and it tykaes Mickey Forever to get buses running from these resorts to the parks when Skyliner/boat service is down.
So we won't be staying in the Epcot area again.
The Skyliner itself is fine and we generally make an effort to ride it just for the fun of it, but being forced to rely on it as a form of transportation is a really bad idea.

Yes for resorts on the skyliner line your in somewhat reliant on it, however Epcot area resorts such as Boardwalk, Beach & Yaht Club, and Swan & Dolphin, these are walkable to both parks.

How are you going to “disguise” that and not have it standout worse than it is now?

well i for one feel it should be expanded.. we stay at pop a lot ... ( a WHOLE LOT)_.. and it would be great if it went to at least one more park.. probably Animal Kingdom since the Monorail connects epcot and mk... to me this would be outstanding..
