MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

So, here's the whole thing, to ensure proper crowd control and the sort, you kind of need Cars to be built for villains to happen*. It's the finest trojan horse I've seen from WDI.

"We'll give you Villains Land! BUT Larry the Cable Guy and Owen Wilson take the river!"

*Okay not ENTIRELY true, you could do a pathway and bridge that goes Beyond BIg Thunder (hue hue hue) and over the river, and then a pathway near Mansion, but you'd still need to destroy part of the ROA to get the full scope of Villains and make it viable for crowd optics. The ultimate point is that the ROA, at least a part of it has to go to attain Villains.

sad but true. Is a damn fine Trojan horse too. Only rivaled by the Trojan horse of tropical americas. The original blue sky to what we have now almost feels like a current president move of “introduce outrageous thing the person you are selling doesn’t want (zootopia in DAK replacing Dino) so the real thing you want doesn’t seem as bad and people are willing to accept it (encanto and Indy in DAK.” Not saying that WAS the plan, as I’m sure they would’ve loved to do zoo and Moana at DAK, but it sure as heck had that effect in my eyes.

Yeah but you'd still have the bottleneck of the steam boat for crowds to go to villains, wouldn't you?

Believe me, I am not guzzling the gasoline, I do not want Cars in MK, and don't really want Pixar (Yes, looking at YOU Lightyear and Laugh Floor) in MK (and to a greater extent, anything not mainline Disney/originals as much as I'd go horrible acts for an Alien attraction in Tomorrowland). But it's ultimately a necessary evil to get to Villains, as awful as it is, especially with the risk of "wow! cars took a lot of budget, we'll circle back to villains later, mmkay?".

What if they scrap Cars entirely and just built a larger Villains area with the "land" previously reserved for Cars instead transitioning to a Sleepy Hollow-like Village via a covered bridge with a Headless Horsemen attraction, a Hocus Pocus something and Halloweentown ride. The larger Villains land now having a "Spooky" side and a "Sinister" side.

Wish the land had more to offer.

So we’d travel through bear country, get splashed by the devils paintpots, travel around cascade peak and through the living desert, and, of course, a rainbow caverns finale. Then we have villains in the upper half.

We're getting a villain's themed land in the northern part of Rivers of America at WDW, we don't know when it'll open, but it'll most likely be sometime in 2028-2030.

As for if it's concrete or not, it is, pretty much all the announcements made at D23 2024 are going to be happening with the next 5-6 years or so (at least for the WDW projects), Tropical Americas is opening in 2027, but that's the only confirmed date we have for it opening, the Monsters Inc land, Cars mini land, and Villains land don't have any confirmation what year they'll open, but they'll most likely open only after Tropical Americas is finished

It’s been confirmed that there will be 2 attractions and that’s pretty much it some people have said that plans are currently being finalized at wed and that there might be leaks coming out soon

Villains is going where the top part of where the ROA, which will be removed, is right now. It'll likely be apart of the railroad. Currently we know they plan to have two attractions and we have gotten a look at the "roster" of villains "inspiring" the land which includes

• Queen of Hearts
• Jafar
• Hades
• Old Lady from Cinderella
• Yzma
• Cruella
• Captain Hook
• Gaston
• Mother Gothel
• Ursula
• Evil Queen from Snow White
• Maleficent
• Chernabog!!!

Currently the rumor mill is spinning that a 'finalized' plan is close to being complete and rumors may start eeking out of what to expect in the final version of the land, whenever those details are revealed, either this year's Destination D23 or next year's D23.


We have no concrete dates and the last I checked Disney is still fighting permits regarding the destruction of the ROA, and with construction supposedly starting this year, who knows if it'll start when they promised. It'll open after Cars is done, likely.

That would be a huge mistake. There is no story to tell with coasters. What would be the point?

It needs Shanghai boat tech or something revolutionary that can add thrills, AAs, and story telling the way Disney used to. This needs to be a slam dunk for MK. One coaster with the sleeping beauty castle, thorns, and Dragon AA, sure. But the other ride should def be more family friendly.

My only concern is that I think the land is going to look amazing, but I'm afraid it will follow the example of Galaxy's Edge, which looks epic but has very limited rides or entertainment and focuses mostly on shopping. I also have issues with Toy Story Land in Hollywood.

If this had been created during the era of the New Fantasy land expansion, I would have been so excited. Though I am intrigued by the possibilities for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween, this will most likely be an extra cost for the party.

By the way, does anyone still call that area New Fantasy land after all this time? Because I do.

Galaxy's Edge and Toy Story Land actually have opposite issues, IMO. Galaxy's Edge has a lot of area to cover and a bunch of interesting nooks and crannies, but there aren't enough unique experiences to occupy all of those nooks. Most of the shops are slight variations of the same thing, and there certainly aren't enough attractions. Toy Story Land, on the other hand, has more or less the attraction density I expect, but because of the footprint of Slinky Dog in particular, there's almost nothing to explore. It's basically one straight pathway through an area that feels very gated-off.

When I see the focus on two high end attractions and the theming it does make me think of Galaxy's Edge. Hopefully they learn from that and do include (vs cut) the third attraction and table service

Optimistically, at least we shouldn't have to worry about them moving much of the planned immersive elements behind a separate paywall experience ... Unless I missed an announcement of the Villains: It's Good To Be Bad: an Immersive Adventure as Spa being built outside of the berm
