DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

While I agree it was bad when it opened, when this photo was taken - they have improved it, and they spent money to do it. They at least acknowledged it looked bad from guest areas and tried to fix it.

Which is the point… they used to care a bit more.

Radiator Springs Racers - which is completely exposed from the back and that is very visible from outside the park.

Disney - stop exposing your backside!!! Literally and figuratively haha.

This was the view from my hotel on my last trip to Disneyland. The back of the Cars Land rockwork towered over the hotel.

I actually thought it was really cool though, and didn’t mind it at all.

Alpine Inn right? I’ve stayed there. My current go to is “Hotel Lulu” but I’ve stayed at most of the Anaheim Hotels at this point! Haha.

Yes, this has been pointed out already in this thread as very bad show in my opinion. Even if they just did some sort of flat 3-D painting it would be better.

Compare that to the 360 degree views you get of The Matterhorn. Sadly, new Disney loves letting the metal framework holding up their rockwork be seen from the parking areas. GE's spires, RSR's backside, Everest, Pandora....

I’d also mention, Matterhorn is themed from 360 degrees because it’s visible from 360 degrees inside the park itself. Is there any example of Disney (even in the 1950s and 60s) theming something with rockwork that is only visible from outside the park?

This was the Candy Cane Inn actually.

I thought it was the coolest thing though, it’s honestly part of the reason why I booked that hotel was to get that view

One of the few I haven’t stayed at! But walked past it many times. Haha.
I won’t get too off topic, but I loved it. Very quaint and charming, beautiful rooms and common areas, a free breakfast with tons of options, and they’re one of the only hotels that has a free trolley bus to the parks (although it’s almost as quick to just walk since it’s so close)

Report: Former Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser to Become Walt Disney Imagineering Offices

Interesting thread to drop this in... ;)

Here's the new thread for that discussion.

This is still the Monsters Inc Coaster thread. :p

Regarding MK vs DL and if MK is a half day park.

Essentially the same attractions include: Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, Tiana, Big Thunder, Tom Sawyer, Haunted Mansion, Small World, Peter Pan, Carousel, Pooh, Tea Party, Dumbo, Speedway, Space Mountain, Buzz, Railroad, and Main street vehicles, Astro Orbitor, Barnstormer/Gadget Go, Riverboat, tree house .

I understand there are vast difference between the 2 lists. However, just rides, stage shows, and animatronic shows gives about a 40 min edge to DL.

Well done!

Also, seeing that “1” next to Tron made me chuckle.

The only small quibble is that I feel keeping the Monorail on there, when MK's is there just outside the gate, is a bit much. So it might be closer to a 25 minute edge.

I just went based on the "attractions and Experiences" list from the Disneyworld website. I took out what I consider streetmosphere or Character meetings. I don't think many people ride the WDW monorail as an attraction compared to DL.

The monorail is not listed as MK attraction, the Disneyland monorail is. That’s just reality.
Sure, but I just feel that one is a bit of a “spirit of the law” vs “letter of the law.” It’s the same thing, one is just not in the gate.

Makes little difference overall.

i agree it makes little difference overall - the time per attraction isn’t really how guests judge a park.

Plus there are many little details like the amount of opportunities to actually ride attractions like the railroad and main street vehicles which both have shortened hours at MK. And the desirability like Autopia vs. Speedway.

I’m pretty sure Disneyland Paris has less attractions than MK - and yet I feel it is a much better and more complete park.

Besides that, they will be busy destroying and replacing ROA, destroying and replacing Muppets, destroying and replacing DinoLand USA etc.

While I agree about Muppets, I don't regarding ROA and Dinoland (I'm looking forward to the changes for both)

Main Street Vehicles are still a thing? I have not seen them operating on Main Street in years except for entertainment. You used to be able to take a double decker bus, a horse drawn trolley, a fire truck... but I think all of those are footnotes now...back from when it was an A ticket....
Then we lost the Swan Boats, The Skyway...and the Mike Fink Keelboats and Canoes...Followed by the 20k Submarines...
The next chapter will be the Rafts to Tom Sawyer's Island and the Riverboat. That is a lot of attraction transportation to completely lose in a theme park...

All of the vehicles still exist and make trips between Main Street and Castle Hub (with the exception of the Fire Truck). Main Street Vehicles are also used for Rainy Day parades

I am glad to hear that...I have not been there on the days they use them I guess....except to ferry the Main Street singers position... Have not seen the horses in years either.....

The horses still pull the trolley (they are done for the day by noon though)

Once Main Street gets crowded, it isn't safe for them to be out...because people are oblivious morons.

The vehicles aren't only used during the morning. I've seen them out in the afternoon too

I’ve seen them operate at night as well - at both DL and MK - pretty sure post Covid even, but maybe it was right before. I specifically remember riding the fire truck at MK at night and being in charge of turning the crank for the siren - it was so fun! :)
