Imo opinion Disney made a big mistake with cabin design --trailer park circa 1970

The most interior cabin design is not what a lot of DVC owners want and expect. That plus the high annual maintenance fees is why the contracts aren’t selling.

And when there's no evidence of that, they say it's because Disney takes rooms out of inventory. And they say that quarter after quarter.

By now, there must be at least negative ten thousand rooms available.

Agree with John Park Hopper about the new cabin design. I liked the old style much better. They had a wilderness feel that isn't in the new cabins.

Also, DVC inventory seems to be being made available for cash bookings. It's getting much harder to get a DVC room, especially at my home resort.

The only cabins available for DVC booking are the declared inventory.

All the remaining cabins that are completed are available for cash bookings through Disney. Until more contracts are sold there will be lots of cabins for cash bookings.

In some cases, DVC owners are renting out points and then booking on cash, because the DVC inventory is booked up.

River Country made a bit of a round on the internet as "that creepy abandoned Disney park where the music still plays and there was toxic water which may or may not have been deadly". I'm not sure if the people who know it through that outnumber the people who have fond memories, but they might not want to make a direct connection because of that.

(Not defending how bland this is inevitably going to to turn out to be.)

I agree this probably did not help the case for a RC theme. However, I think a big factor is who they have running hotel projects now. It's been talked about other places that Disney has brought in hotel industry people, responsible for vegas resorts, etc....and it feels like they are building hotels in essentially the standard industry fashion - and then adding some disney touches....rather than a cohesive theme from the ground up.

In Walt or Eisner's days, it was more important for them to be unique in this area, seeking out architects who could push the boundaries, etc...and it's easy for all of us to see the difference in the output. Again, these can be high quality, modern resorts, but not much different from what you get elsewhere.

Here’s some recent activity. It’s going to be very visible from Contemporary and vis versa. I prefer they build more of a buffer against Wilderness Lodge. It’s not the end of the world and mostly going to stick out from the boat dock if they don’t buffer it correctly.

It looks like there might be a berm (or is it a retention pond?), in which case wilderness lodge should be spared.

They already relocated the horses a while ago in preparation for this project before it was paused and restarted.

I would guess a pond. I can't imagine they would back up two wing of rooms directly into a sizable berm. Sadly, I think the WL view is going to go from secluded national park to national park with a modern apartment complex in the middle. (Could be wrong, and happy to eat my words if not...)

If true, this is the worst part of this whole thing. It's like Disney wants to actively dismantle all the things that make the resorts feel like true escapes.
