EPCOT Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

I don't know... it's so huge that I think doing anything to dress it up would actually make it more noticeable and thus worse.
It could literally be flat finished panels in a go-away color for all I care as long as it hides the downspouts and corrugated sheeting. That said, I kind of disagree; I think they could dress it in subtle ways to both minimize the attention it draws and make it fit in.

There’s little chance they’d build out a double facade which is what would likely be required.

What’s worse is that they could have rather easily picked a different panel profile. The downspouts and scuppers though are ridiculous. Any illusion is completely broken by them. Not wanting internal roof drains makes sense but then the roof should just sloped toward the north.

The only way to legitimately hide it would have been to pretend it was an office building and create a fake facade or build the Epcot hotel around it somehow. And I don't like either option.

I'm surprised this is a ride based around Marvel comic book characters and they never released a book based around it...At least the other pavilion did it right.

This is an interesting permit. The contractor is Hubbard Construction which tends to do big projects for Disney and the expiration is 11/29/2024. Not sure what this is for.

1350 AVENUE OF THE STARS(GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY COSMIC REWIND) - General Construction

Another permit was filed today with the same contractor and expiration date.

1341 AVENUE OF THE STARS # B(EAST SUPPORT STORAGE SHEDS GROUP B) - General Construction

This is behind Guardians so both of these may be for work behind the building and not on it.

I'd selfishly just love them to build some sort of flex festival space back there so they could bring back the runDisney Race Retreat. Then could be used for the random stuff they'd throw in WoL every now and then. And ultimately put actual attractions back where they belong.

I wonder what the demand for this would be without the ongoing VQ. 2 hours for the first half of the day at first, then dwindling down in the afternoon and evening? Recent VQ timings seem to indicate there's not a ton of demand after the morning rush, but keeping this behind the VQ wall makes me think TDO wants to maintain the illusion that the ride is popular.

I think the ride is popular. Keeping it a VQ limits the ride to one free per day max and forces you to pay over the top if you want a second ride or plan to hop to Epcot from somewhere else. IMO the VQ aspect is really for ILL revenue.

Pretty much. A VQ or paywall only ride will have the majority of guests wondering around and potential for more money spending if they have to be there for longer and likely past a mealtime. Longer in the park = more revenue potential.

Anyone who thinks this ride is more popular than the Potter rides are likely kidding themselves.

If you have to wait hours later for your ride, that is that much more time.

I didn't want to say it, so I'm glad you picked up on it. :) I fully agree, at this point the VQ is used to drive revenue, nothing more.

Actually....an EPCOT hotel would not be a bad idea if it were integrated around the Gravity building...and if it were also some landmark architecture worthy of the sightline it will forever be part of... If they would build another dreary boring building like Riviera, then I would agree...no hotel for EPCOT... It would have to be amazing....

The issue I have is the now-muddled theme makes this difficult to pull off. Having a sort of creation of the EPCOT central model could have been cool. But I don't know what you would do at the front of current Epcot to make sense. It's not future any more. International would work - but at the back of the park where there isn't room. Natural design maybe, but that would need to be West.

Unlike classic Hollywood, whimsical Victorian or African Lodge - there isn't a defining "Epcot" style that works at the current front of the park other than vaguely "modern". And that will look dated quickly, let alone just be Contemporary 2.

Away from the hotel thought for a moment:
They should get away from the concept of "theme" so much in a transportive sense and do a presentation sense.

Modern panels up the wall to provide use and aesthetic could work. If the building were not so dang tall it would be a lot better.

Given it's size, I still think disguising it as WDI's offices would have been the easiest way. Sadly, anything that size can't really be handled. I totally get your point, but it would still stand out a lot.

It was a very poor choice IMHO, especially for a park without a berm or grade (like the Utilidoor).

And a park with an icon like SSE so close to it that is designed to be the attention.

Thanks for seeing the point though. The coaster was also launched propelled based and never has many drops so the height of the building always seems odd as the screens rarely seem that big either but I guess are. The coaster never needed much gravity.

And how sad is it that the WDI faux building idea, so large would be one of the better ideas as the real Imagineering art is not as trusted anymore.
