Here is an interesting fact and one that may explain how Florida stayed at 7 cases a day per 100k till Thanksgiving and then increases faster than any other place in the world. Remember those who switched residency from the NY and NJ area. They never sold their homes only switched their primary home from the Northeast to tax free Florida. That means they have to live in Florida for 188 days or more a year. That means they have be in Florida for all of December, January, February, March, April and May. But if they want to be back for Memorial Day Weekend, they would have to spend Thanksgiving in Florida. Therefore, is it any wonder that Florida's massive increase was at the same time snow birds went to their homes in Maimi Dade Broward and Palm Beach? Yes, I know some will think I am crazy but it is interesting, isnt it?

That theory only works if all of those people suddenly decided to become full-time FL residents at the same time.
No it doesn't. They could have changed years ago and still they would have to switch homes in order to have the 188 days in Florida. I know lots of people who own Forida homes and NJ or NY homes. In fact I have had lots of people who are middle class income and have offered to rent or buy our condo just so they can become Florida residence. I am not saying this is the sole reason for the increase because every state in increasing but it is part of the reason Florida in increasing so fast. Check out all the home prices all of Florida and where the people are moving from. Then think of people who are rich enough to own multiple homes and how easy it is to just switch residency. They dont need to buy or sell anything, just spend a little more time in Florida.

Are you saying 188 days to claim the 25K homestead exclusion? Not that big a savings as the assessor would set the value at today's rate and the 3% year cap on valuation increase would only toll from this year forward. I'm not sure where you think the incentive is here?
If you are not a NJ or a NY resident anymore, they cant bill you income tax. Since the IRS limits you at $10,000 State and Local Tax deduction and both states have a top rate over 8% of income, no longer paying that can save someone many thousands of dollars. I pay over 10k in NYC propert tax, NJ averages over that in acerage property tax and then add in NJ income tax. I pay well over 3 times the maximum SALT deduction so if I no longer paid state income tax I would save 100% of that money. Plus, I have an income much lower than most people here but since I no debt I live a very comfortable life.

Central Florida schools haven't gone down that road and probably will not but Orange County ( Orlando and surrounding areas ) is standing strong. They are the only CFL county schools to require all adults to wear masks for at least the month of January. . All other CFL counties schools are encouraged for adults to wear masks. For kids, wearing masks are strongly encouraged in all counties.

Saying that and winter here with dry air and dry nasal passages would keeping them moister help protect them from invasion? Ah, I misunderstood what you meant. Still, Florida's ilspike didn't start until after Thanksgiving so it's a big assumption to blame it on snowbirds heading south rather than family gatherings.

We also got this more or less: district has worked to increase subs in all areas, but transportation, food, after school care etc could be affected. We'll be notified asap if it is.
Not related to my school, but I live right by Ohio State - and so far they are only requiring testing to return to campus. They're back next week.

Just a bit of tax trivia:
Most states will tax you on income that is considered earned in their state whether a resident or not.
California goes after out of state professional sport players for their per game imputed income for games played in California. Technically if you go to most states for a convention and get payed a salary, if that exceeds the annual state minimum for taxation they will tax it. Most of the time they are too busy with bigger fish (Like NBA stars).
Here is New York's take on non-residents:

But one advantage of being a Florida resident is in using your residence to shelter capital.
Income on the other hand is taxable where it is earned.
I am not a tax accountant, nor even an accountant. So take anything I say in that field with minimal authority.

You're correct. Both NY and NJ will tax you on income earned in their state. If you live in NJ but work in NYC, you pay taxes in NJ, NY, and NYC. NJ and PA used to have an agreement related to taxes paid by residents who worked in the other state, but it ended a few years ago because they each felt like the other state was getting the better end of the deal. I don't believe they ever renegotiated a new deal but I could be wrong.
