A carnival crap peddler who cuts costs to boost profits? Who the **** knows. They also didn’t have any other internal options (thanks Bob 1.0!) and obviously didn’t have an appetite to look outside the company.
Clearly Chapek was on board with the current (at the time) mission, and also there is an effective strategy for winning musical chairs.

Continuing with that analogy, it's as if Iger got spooked by Covid and turned off the music. Then he went and got himself a bigger chair.

The management of TWDC, right up to the C-Level all report to the board of directors, and they mostly come from outside firms. That kind of diversity in the Board of Directors was something that came up a lot in the Save Disney days. Where before, there were a lot of Eisner supporters and investment groupies, you now have reps from General Motors, Proctor and Gamble, Oracle, HP and Cisco.

So those outside voices already have a seat at the table, and I'm not really sure how bringing in someone from the outside to be CEO would really make much difference.

So a bunch of folks that only care about profit. Smart call.

The interesting part is.. there is so much you can cut before your company crumbles and your investors sell your stock fast.
Good thing these kind of CEOs sort of never get any fallback.. they have their magical parachutes.

As he is no longer CEO I would hope he would diversify. It just makes good financial sense. Being mainly invested in one stock is an uncompensated financial risk.
Yeah, you wonder why he kept so much of the company he worked for. He had to as a board member. No longer on the board time to get out.....

Primarily when he depends on a third person who he doesn't trust much to keep the value of his shares.

He only did that before because he had to to be on the board/CEO at most companies. It is a bad idea and is “stock market malpractice” to not diversify your investments with owning stocks from multiple different companies.

This article reads like an attempt at damage control but you gotta love the seemingly not-so-subtle subversive message of the image at the top.

That "smile" looks like it's hurting him.

His suit's even the right color ;) :

EDIT: for those not interested in a very long article:

Gists of the article is Bob's a real boy - a real creative boy who's proven his creativity and love for Disney and his customers from his time with the parks. He's just not Hollywood and is misunderstood. 🙄

Good read!

He really does see himself as a Creative among creatives. He sees himself in “a focus group every day”. With 30 years' experience, wouldn't he be able to guess what the typical guest wants? It's not the current iteration of Genie+. It isn't Fast Pass+. It's actual creativity! Oh, and capacity to enjoy that creativity! (forgot about that; so has he)
