Thanks everyone for the updated info. There is no excuse for the state of disrepair discribed by Kevin and tirian, but I'm feeling somewhat better with the move towards getting the attraction to function as it should.

Thanks again.

Rode today. BIG difference compared to my last visit (and what I wrote up in my article). They have fixed at least half the problems on Splash.

AND..... THE TARP IS GONE FROM THUNDER! There's a fake rock there! I almost wept. I never knew I'd care that much about a fake rock.

More in *this* week's article.

Good to know! I'm not setting foot in the MK again for pleasure until late August (it's way too busy!), so I'm counting on these updates to know how things go. :)

Most likely, it was the visit by Bob Iger and the Board this week to WDW.

Sounds logical. I see this sort of thing all of the time in the supermarket where I work. They let things go to pot but as soon as they hear that one of the bigwigs is coming, all hell breaks loose for a day or two and suddenly everything looks great. What concerns me is that apparently, WDW is being run like a supermarket . Anyway, I'm just glad to see things looking "Satisfactual", regardless how they came to be.

In this case, i think it's good to have at least a few key things that can't simply be fixed in one night due to management cramming. So then the management have no choice but to show the dark side in all its glory. From the sounds of it, although there might be a fake rock, it's not moving and there's still a lot missing or broken stuff that can't just be slapped on overnight to present a good impression. If it was as simple as turning on a certain effect for a day, they'd just do so and simply switch it off the next day after their superiors were gone. As it is, there's plenty of stuff that can't be fixed so easily and they have no choice but to let Iger and team see them!

Just an interesting tidbit..... This story has nothing to do with the current state of affairs but...

I went to WDW back in October for a week. Prior to this visit, there was a post called" Gum or Grafitti Mountain" or something like that. After reading the huge number of response posts of how bad it looked with a million pieces of gum etc... I decided to email Meg Crofton and Al Wiess on my company email letter head. I wanted them to see I was in a somewhat high position with a Fortune 100 Company.

Next day I got 3 emails and 2 phone calls. I forgot the names but I spoke to 2 different offices. Anyway, I told them I am not contacting them to bash Disney, but to let them know that there is quite a Buzz on a major fan site about the horrible upkeep on SM.

I spoke to this nice lady-Management, 2 more times before my visit. Now I am not dumb enough to think they cleaned up SM just because of me, even with my official company and position letter head.

Soooo, I went to MK... I rode SM not once but five times. All different times of the day... To my shock....not a single piece of gum or grafitti ANYWHERE. The attraction was spotless. Now keep in mind I have OCD.....so I looked at every inch of the attraction. Also, it is my job to tour stores with Vice President and President level people and critique their operations.

I called her back when I got back into town and said...."Well Done"....

I am not doubting the current condition of SM but thought I would share a positive story about Disney and SM.

Very nice. I wouldn't downplay your role. While you may not have singlehandedly caused the repairs/clean-up, you likely prompted their further investigation into the matter. And since they realized that there may have been bad press on the web, they saw their bottom line in jeopardy.

Nice work.

Online discussions do encourage changes (I won't flatter myself and say they actually cause changes) as long as the arguments are sound.

You don't crazily attack everyone and everything; you point out issues with undeniable proof.

How is that WDW maintenance site coming along? We're going to need it now that Crofton is presiding over all the parks. :brick: Like so many other people in Florida, she's a perfect example of a genuinely nice person who simply isn't qualified or prepared for her position. I know Iger thinks she is, but spreadsheets and actual experiences tell two different stories.

As of yesterday, July 11, 2011, everything in splash mountain was working 100% from what I saw. Well, more like 99%. That one fish didn't jump up near brer frog. Everything else was great, hopping Brer Rabbit was working, everything. I was pleasantly surprised after seeing how it was in May and reading about it here. Not sure about today though, but at least it was good then.

Thanks for the update. Let's hope the maintenance continues.

I was there over Christmas/New Year and I am sorry to say the usual refurb of Splash Happens at the very beginning of January usually about 3rd or 4th because I remember it was down just before I left.

I rode Splash Mountain right before and right after the refurb earlier this year. Suffice to say, the only thing they did as far as i can tell was-
- modded the boats for lap bars
- replaced a rail or two in the queue (and didn't paint them or finish them properly)
- fixed an area next to a waterfall after the final big drop (it had a board over it for some reason beforehand, dunno why)
- altered some of the lighting i believe in places

I'm glad to hear they've fixed most of the issues the ride was having finally. I'm hoping to go back in September this year, so i'll do my best to get up there and ride it to see the extent of the fixes. It's been a long time since i've seen all the animatronics have their full range of movement (if that was fixed). Looking forward to it! Hope it's good.

I recall the year prior in 2010 we noticed all week many men outside painting the briar patch etc and made a huge diiference in brightness and detail....but bet one year of sunshine dulls that....I have not rode since lap bars were installed but we have always noticed something not working up to par somewhere....sure would be fun to enjoy the holiday decor early in our stay and "poof" have it be gone another day later in week for regular experience....
