Trip Report "You're mean!" & "I'm scared!!" - The Theme of our 2018 Trip.

Well, we're back. Another Disney trip is in the books.
We just got back from Disney at 2am, and i'm getting this thing rolling now while it's all fresh in my mind.

Without further delay....

Thursday 9/6 - Departure Day
I had worked all day and left work promptly at 5pm. My mom had picked Harper up from Daycare, so all I needed to do was head home. The van was already packed and ready to go. Surprisingly after only 10- 15 minutes, we were buckling ourselves into the van and heading on our way right before 6pm!

The drive was pretty uneventful. I had noticed pretty soon into the trip I was getting a pretty bad headache but I tried to ignore it. About 7:45-8pm, we stopped at a Cracker Barrel for dinner. Harper was having a blast walking around looking at all the stuff in the lobby. When they called "Lucabaugh, Party of 4!" Harper piped up and said "Where's the party at??" I had to laugh. I looked at her and said "We ARE the party!"

Service was SLOWWWWW tonight. I ended up just getting breakfast and some pumpkin coffee that they had on the menu. It was a pretty long stop, but Harper was pretty good while we were there. She wanted a few things in the gift shop but we assured her she'd get much cooler stuff in Disney. Thus started the "You're MEAN!!!" comments that continued pretty much hourly after that for the remainder of the trip. Ah, 4 year olds!

We got back on the road and were headed to our hotel in Hillsville, VA. It was only moments after being in the car after dinner that I started to feel pretty bad. My stomach wasn't feeling awesome and I was instantly transformed into a nervous wreck. I have a bit of a phobia of being sick. Being sick on a very very long car ride towards vacation would be even worse. Quickly I had worked myself into a full panic. We had to stop before we even got on the interstate, and then again about 10 minutes later where things were REALLY bad. It was so odd. I don't get car sick, but it was like the minute we got on the road in the dark, I started to feel extremely sick. After the second pit stop, I asked if I could drive the rest of the way. After some tums, ginger ale, and driving, I started to come around a bit.

We ended up stopping at the Hampton somewhat late and got in the room around 1 am, I believe. I was still very iffy stomach wise, and just a mess. I didn't sleep a wink that first night because the coffee had kicked in and coupled with my anxiety, I just couldn't get my brain to turn off. Not helping was that Harper and I had to share a bed. Eventually at some point I drifted off and got a few hours of sleep.

Up next: Will I feel any better tomorrow for the 2nd leg of our trip??

It’s kind of funny what we do as parents at a Disney park with young kids - we convince them that the rides are not real and that there is nothing to be afraid of and yet we spend our time reinforcing that characters and princesses are 😉 (at least this is what I did when my DD was younger). Don’t worry - the “you’re mean” phase will probably go on hiatus soon ... until she’s a teenager 😂

Okay. It’s about time I wrap this thing up! :arghh:

9/13 Evening.
I can’t remember why, but we did not swim this night. I’m pretty sure it was raining, or very close to raining and we didn’t bother. I was hungry and had nothing to eat, so I decided I was going to go over to the carriage house for another GF sandwich and my parents offered to keep Harper with them so I could go alone.

I drove the van over and parked in the 30 minute parking (shhhhh!). There is an entirely empty lot there, and I really didn’t plan on being THAT long. After ordering my food, they gave me a little GPS thing and I asked if I could take it right outside the door to those tables, they said yes, just place it on the “pad” in the middle of the table, and they’d find me. Okay.

Outside the place was deserted. No one anywhere. Sitting at the table, alone, those sad feelings started creeping in. There is nothing worse than the last day at Disney.

I am always a little depressed the last day. You know logically, you are still there and should be having fun, but it does creep in a little bit. I enjoyed my quiet meal alone outside and before leaving picked up some food for everyone else to take back.

We all crawled into bed tonight, exhausted. I tried to watch football for a little bit, but Harper will not sleep if a TV is on. Instead of falling asleep, she’ll go into like a catatonic state, so I decided to turn it off and get some shut eye.

9/14 - Our Last Day. Back to Magic Kingdom!
Waking up our last day was sobering. I felt like I was dragging and moving a little slower than normal because I just didn’t want the week to end. My step dad and I had our daily cups of coffee, and we all headed towards the bus stop, and we didn’t wait too long until we were riding. This morning Harper made friends with a little girl across from her and they sang “baby shark” the entire way to MK. It was pretty cute, but a bit repetitive. LOL!

Once in the park, we had to make an important pit stop at the Purple Wall! There were a couple other people up there doing selfies, but one girl was doing like a full-fledged model shoot while her boyfriend took a ton of photos. Too funny.
I got a few of myself, and then Harper jumped in with me and we took a few of her by herself! Disney achievement: unlocked!

OG Purple Wall:

I decided today that I was going to focus on getting a bunch of photos of all the little details. I really wanted to soak it all up on our last day, so be prepared for a photo heavy last day!

9/14 - Last day in MK, Cont'd..

We got in line for the flying carpets while my parents went off somewhere to sit and wait. It was so hot today and the carpets are right out in the middle of the sun with no shade to hide from! As I’m standing in line, I do notice we are standing on a number, and as not to make anyone else angry on this trip, we promptly found our NUMBERED carpet and hopped in.

I don’t seem to have any pictures on this and it’s probably because I was actually being blinded from the sun on this ride. Pretty sure my eyes were closed (from squinting) the entire time.

After coming back down to earth, we went over to our first FP for Jungle Cruise! Even the FP line for this was nuts. Probably one of the longest lines I was in during the week. Very slow moving. A lady also passed out in the line, so that made for an interesting minute or two before we got on our boat.

Jungle Cruise was fun. Harper loved seeing all the animals, but did get a tiny bit freaked when you go into the little dark building.

Walking back out of Adventureland, Harper saw the things that shoot water out, so we stopped to play in those. Being super hot, I stood in front of one and let it soak me! Harper really seemed to enjoy herself as well!

^ Waiting on the camel to spray water on her!

We didn’t get very far before Harper spotted the tree house, needed to do that again, so me step dad and I braved the seemingly endless sets of stairs in the blistering heat for Harper. She really loved it!

We left Adventureland and headed towards the Carousel. ..

On our way to the carousel, I was able to get a close up look of that beautiful castle..

I’m not exactly sure how or why, but the carousel (which was another Fave of Harper's) was what we did next! While waiting in line, the family ahead of us commented on our magic bands and had never ever seen the stickers you can buy to decorate them!

This experience getting on the carousel really stressed me out. We were up very close and waiting, we were not in a line at this point, just grouped into this square waiting area and when they gave us the okay, everyone took off in a MASS group. Like, practically running. Every single horse was taken. As soon as I saw a place we could head, by the time I got to it, it was being taken by someone else. I really didn’t think we were going to find two horses to get on and was actually starting to get anxious and panicked. Eventually, I found 2 on the inside and we got buckled in for our ride.

After that we wondered through Castle Couture where Harper got a healthy dose of Pixie Dust!

Next was our lunch at Crystal Palace!!!!

Enjoying your trip...sad to see it end. I didn't know you could just go get some Pixie Dust on you! My daughter is under the age limit for BBB so it would still be nice to get some pixie dust! thanks!!
