Trip Report You're going when, again?!?! A live trip report from the Devil's week.

At the shaming of @amjt660 and the guilt trip of my DW I've decided to create a dedicated thread for our next visit to the bubble.

The Devil’s Week:
We are 7 days out from our next round of funtivities during the “Devil’s Week”…Spring Break. The DD is heading on a band trip for the week to our nation’s capital so we thought it a good time for another couples trip. My new gig at the school system has me enjoying all the school holidays off as the kiddos do so what else should we do with a week off other than visit the bubble!
Who:
The Parents!

When:
April 1-5
Where:
We’re taking advantage of some deep discounts at the CBR during their war zon…I mean refurbishments. It will be our first time at CBR and we are more staying there to check it off the WDW resort list than we are for the discounts. We’d like to stay at all the resorts at one point. CBR will be our 12th different resort stay so we are getting close to our goal, it’s just so darn hard deviating from the Deluxes. I know, I know...woe is me, first world Disney problems and all.

Teen band drama now has the grandparents coming to stay with the DD before her trip while we are hopping on a JetBlue flight for the bubble. We’ll have at least half a day the first day to enjoy AK at night. As far as getting around, we debated on renting a car and did our best to figure out how much driving we would need to be doing during the trip first. We decided it would be cheaper for us to just get an Uber gift card and use that to get around during the week so that’s the plan. We purchased the Uber card today and loaded it into the app. We’ve locked in a few ADRs that include Boathouse, Artist’s Point, and Yachtsman. Boathouse is new for us and I’ve enjoyed a few vlogs and reviews I’ve see on it so we’re looking forward to that. No dining plans that first night, yet.

We picked up our Disney gift cards at Kroger today to cover the trip and food and now have an insane amount of fuel points! My magic band came last week and we're pretty much ready for the craziness! Nothing has been packed yet but, hey, we still gots a week!

When we kick this off next week I'll start live updates of the chaos.

[Purely my own personal opinion]
Almost nothing about the island appeals to me. Ill leave it at that so i dont hurt the feels of folks that enjoy Nassau. I’d rather stay on board and explore the ship.

I share your opinion.

Of course, mine is colored by the fact that I got mugged the first time I visited Nassau on spring break. That was 30 years ago, so I’m sure things have changed, but I just have no interest in revisiting.

Another good flight under our belts. Fearful flyers, the book SOAR really works. I'm still a bit nervous, but NOTHING like before and I am really liking JetBlue. Fingers crossed for more non-stop destinations out of ATL.

You've come a long way in being more relaxed to fly. I do recall in one of your past TRs, just how anxious you used to be before going on a flight. and how you were going to use some of the advice from that bookm to calm down. Happy to hear it has really helped. (P.S.: I love to fly, but realize there are people that are not comfortable with the flying experience.)

Thanks for sharing these. There are a few things I like:
  • Ceiling Fan!!
  • TV looks huge.
  • Love the hanging doors vs the curtain to the sink area. (Keeps the light out at night.)
  • Double sinks.
  • It looks like the shower head is high enough for a 5'11" guy to shower without having to practice squats.
  • Two nightstands. One complaint I have with DVC studios, they only have one.
Dislikes:
  • No bed covering. It looks like it's not even made.
  • Rather have a walk-in shower vs tub, but I realize with kids a tub is better.
How's the drawer space? Is there room to unpack your clothes?
How did the refrigerator work for you? I've had hit/miss with how cold they get.

I can answer/comment some of these.

The ceiling fan is nice!
The tv is big. It's the larger refurb size.
No night light coming from bathroom at all.
Double sink was a huge plus!
Shower was standard. Tiny shower/toilet combo. I'd say same size as value.

The two nightstand had plug ins and USB ports as did the tv stand.

The bed covering was also standard issue. Used to seeing a runner to break up all the white. This room didn't have a runner. The bed was super comfortable, but crappy pillows.

We didn't unpack, but there seemed to be ample storage. The bathroom the hangers.

The fridge was on the least cold setting when we arrived. I adjusted to the coldest setting. Sean will have to comment on the beer temp. The fridges seem to be half the size they were in the past, but I can't really remember.

Here's our uber breakdown. If you'll remember, we purchased a $100 uber gift card before our trip.

Sunday, April 1 - Disney Springs to Animal Kingdom - $15.35
Monday, April 2 - Caribbean Beach to Epcot - $8.41
Tuesday, April 3 - Animal Kingdom to Typhoon Lagoon - $12.17
Tuesday, April 3 - Disney Springs to Caribbean Beach - $9.29
Tuesday, April 3 - Caribbean Beach to Boardwalk - $11.79
Tuesday, April 3 - Boardwalk to Caribbean Beach - $11.54 (surge pricing)
Wednesday, April 4 - Epcot to Caribbean Beach - $10.32
Wednesday, April 4 - Caribbean Beach to Polynesian Village - $11.53
Wednesday, April 4 - Polynesian Village to Disney Springs - $12.56

Total, without tips: $102.96
I added $2 to the tips for every driver except the one who had NO IDEA where he was going.

Even with tips, we came out way ahead. If we had rented a car, it would have been over $200 not including gas.

Wrapping this package of wonder up.

I have a long standing history of not making it through a vacation without something happening to my sunglasses. This trip, sadly, would be no exception. I get flack for purchasing $10 Walmart sunglasses but there is a just reason for it. I give you: "How to lose your glasses in 16 seconds"

After this video was shot I made my way to the DW when she promptly said "Where are your glasses?" I really thought I would make it this trip with my glasses intact but it seems the Disney gods had other plans...back to Walmart.

I had two other videos I meant to post and just didn't have the network capability til I got home. Here are a couple of mom and her cubs from AK:

The kids were particularly feisty today.

Closing thoughts to come as well as our 20/40 trip in 25 days!

The only "glasses" I wear in the wave pool are tight swim goggles! ;) Sorry you lost your sunglasses.

Oh, the video of the tigers was so enjoyable to watch--they really are cute! They'll grow fast, so you were lucky you got to see them while they were still little.

How many pairs of sunglasses do you think they pull out of that thing a day?

Thanks, its just become an acceptable cost of vacationing which, again, is why I don't invest heavily in quality sunglasses. I'm just so bad about breaking/loosing them.

A completely unsubstantiated guess would be a dozen park wide between wave pool and slides. I say this in the hope that others take better care of their cheap sunglasses than I do. :geek:
