Pre-Trip You're going again? You're CRAZY!!

As the title suggests, I just might be a little crazy. After a wonderful 10 day Disney vacation last July, it is time to go back. It wasn't enough, I want more! Every time I mention to a family member or a friend that I am returning to my home, they think I'm nuts! (I might be, but that's a different story!) I figured the best place for people to share my sentiments and excitement would be here... 148 days until Disney!!!

I am returning with my best friend, she's the brunette. I'm the blonde. We survived our last vacation without one single fight.. okay MAYBE I sang "IMAGINATIONNNNNNNN" one too many times.. but we came away from our trip closer than ever. Why not do it again? We're young and we are living for the moment. My Disney Visa may be maxed out at the current moment, but I have 125 reward dollars to spend! It's the little things. :)

We are going the last week of June, staying at Art of Animation for three nights and then taking a DISNEY CRUISE! Going on the Disney Dream for four nights. Yippee! I've never done a cruise, ever. My only experience with ships is from the movie Titanic. Here's hoping there's no icebergs in the Bahamas.

Below is our itinerary.. I would love feedback and suggestions on what to do and how we can make this trip just as special as last time! I'm hoping to try the cupcake challenge again.. since I only have 3 days of eating cupcakes I hope I can succeed.

Day One:

We land in Orlando around 9:30 AM. Figured we would head to the resort AoA for brunch in the food court, check out our new digs if the room is ready, and then it's off to Hollywood Studios.

We plan to do a full day at the park and then head over for dinner at Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. We both have never eaten here. I am excited! The only "must do" we have is to head over to the Animation Academy and draw something! We had such a blast last time, even if I am a terrible artist!

Day Two:

We want get up early and make it to the park opening of Epcot. Do some attractions in Future World, then head over to the World Showcase as soon as it opens. I tried drinking around the world last visit and didn't succeed, so I want to try again! We also want to spend more time just wandering the countries, and I need to get ice cream from Glaces!

Lunch.. we are not sure. Any counter service suggestions?

Dinner: Biergarten.. again another first for us! I keep reading good things on the forums about this restaurant.. let's hope they are true! It took some heavy convincing for my friend to agree to eat here. She wanted to do Chefs de France again, but I kept arguing that we just did it last trip! It may have been one of the best meals I ate in those 10 days, but I want to try new things!! Who's with me!

Day Three:

Wake up early and make it to rope drop at Magic Kingdom! This trip consists of a lot of waking up early in the beginning, but we hope once we get on the cruise we can relax. The parks are GO GO GO! I'm hoping the Mine Train is open in June (geesh, it better be!) and I'm excited for the new parade. Other than that, we will most likely do whatever we can, we spent a majority of our last trip in the MK so if we miss something this time it will not be a big deal.

Lunch... not sure? What are your favorite counter service restaurants?

Dinner: Tony's.. a first for me. My friend raves about this place and since I got to pick our Epcot dinner, she got to pick our MK one. I love Italian food so I'm sure I'll love Tony's! For the life of me, I cannot think of where Tony's is on Main St.. and I feel like I know that street like the back of my hand!

I feel like it will be weird going to MK on the last day, usually it's the first day for every trip! I guess the anticipation will make it even more worth the wait. How do you guys decide the order of the parks? It's such a tough decision!
Day Four-Eight:

Getting picked up and taken to Port Canaveral and boarding the Disney Dream. Here's where I don't know what do with myself because I don't know how to plan the cruise!

We will be staying on deck 6 and have the later dining rotation. Besides that, that's all I know! Here's hoping I love it out at sea! We paid a little more for a porthole.. hoping a window helps us if we feel confined!

This was the itinerary given for on-board:

Day 1. Port Canaveral, Florida on board 3:45 p.m.
Day 2. Nassau 9:30 AM until 5:45 PM
Day 3. Castaway Cay 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM
Day 4. At Sea
Day 5. Port Canaveral, Florida 7:30 AM

Any tips for first time cruisers? I read on here somewhere to take the mixology course offered.

Thanks for sticking with me this far! Just got so excited that I had to make a pre-trip report. I love reading everyone's reports.. and getting insight and ideas for my own trip. Love this forum so much!

So excited that you are staying at the Wilderness Lodge! We've stayed there 3 times. LOVE being able to take the boat to MK. Roaring Fork is great. Love the Mickey waffles with strawberries and also the flatbread pizzas. We've had a woods view on 2 of our visits & we were able to see Wishes from our balcony. Of course that all depends on which side of the lodge you are in, but it was fun. The pool & poolside bar are nice. Try the drink that is a piña colada with raspberry mixed in (Can't remember the name, but it is yummy). They show movies on the beach & the water pageant is a fun experience. Your new plans look great. Glad you got to use your pin code & keep some dinner plans.

You just gave me some must dos!! I want that pool side drink, it sounds amazing! And roaring fork sounds like an awesome quick service. I'm sure I will be there quite a bit during my stay! Bummed I have to wait an extra month and a half, but completely OVERJOYED that I'm finally staying at a deluxe!! Let's just hope I don't get spoiled! Haha

Great reschedule :) But only 4 days WDW and 4 days WDC? :) Isn't that a little short ;) ANd for you it is sad, but I love the snow pics, its winter in Europe as well.... but only + 10 °C here...... just 2 or 3 nights of freezing the last couple of months....... :)

I am a little late to your party here, but I wanted to say how excited I am for you! I also want to tell you that you are totally doing this trip right. We did a cruise on the Dream, and then 3 park days after, and I wished we had flipped it around as we all felt really weird that first day back on land (wobbly sea legs I guess), and my kids both caught something from the ship and so were not their physical best. So, going to the parks first is, in my opinion, a good call!

As for your cruise, you will LOVE it! This was our first time on a Disney cruise and it was amazing! The ship is absolutely beautiful, there are a ton of photo ops with characters (Princess Anna from Frozen was onboard and we waited 45 minutes to see her -- we were so glad we did as it was near impossible to meet and greet her and Queen Elsa at Epcot with that 4-hour line!), and the live shows are excellent! We also saw Frozen twice, Saving Mr. Banks once, and my DH and DS saw Thor once. Everyone is so pleasant onboard and there is really so much to do if you want! One of my favorite things during the at sea day was the animation class ... Plus you'll get to meet people somewhat similar to you as they'll seat you with other people at dinner. The family we met was so nice!

Nassau was neat to see for at least 1/2 the day. We did the Discover Atlantis tour which was OK. I am glad we did something there as I had never been to the Bahamas and I would have hated to have been able to see the Atlantis from our verandah but not seen it up close. I think in the future, there will not be much need to get off there unless another tour piques our interest -- I thought the dolphin excursions were too expensive, but that's just me. You gals may want to splurge since it's just the 2 of you and not a family of 4!

Castaway Cay was AWESOME and our absolute favorite day. Next time we are thinking of taking one of those cruise that stops there twice. I heard they have them on the Wonder!

As for our Disney days, we walked off the ship first (literally) and drove right out there to the Wilderness Lodge!! It was our second time there and you will LOVE that place! We also had a woods view, and loved the room. (They have little animal carvings on the bed posts - my kids loved that)! Plus you get to take the boat right over to MK -- such a plus!

Like you are planning to do, we did HS first, MK, then ended with Epcot. We usually start and finish with MK, but this set up was not bad at all. I actually liked it, especially since we were so sea-leggy that first day on land -- HS was the perfect park to me to have to cut things short. I would have been way disappointed if that was an MK day! Ending on Epcot was also nice, as that park has its own tempo and soundtrack and we were all humming it for days afterward. Plus, the park was not so crowded that day, which helped for a last day happy memory!

We need time for things to happen.
Aside from the 200 bucks a ticket hit you took (Ouuuuuuucccch!!) it sounds like the change of plans was otherwise painless and in certain cases for the better WL. I have to say we just recently started flying Southwest (we used to fly Delta) and things like changing flights is free so hearing about your situation makes me appreciate SW even more.
You like how I'm using your horrible misfortune to make myself feel good about my choices???...... Nice guy huh???

ANYWAY - I tried desperately to convince my wife to do the cruise this year and she wasn't having it. I understand after all the money spent last year. So I'm going to try extra hard to be frugal this trip so she can't say sh*t next year when I start talking cruise. As previously mentioned I'm going to use your trip report to convince her how much fun it's going to be so you're on the spot now. Sorry.

Very proud of you for pulling the trigger on the WL stay. I'm relatively certain you can't stay there when you're dead so you might as well do it while you're alive and kicking (although it's rumored there is some clause in the DVC membership that allows a 3 night stay post mortem if you have enough points)

I'm with you with this snow cr*p. Enough is enough. It took us 4 hours driving in the last storm to get to the Casino (1 hour away) to see Kings of Leon the other night. My wife and I almost got a divorce on the way there. She does NOT do well in the snow and I don't do well with a nervous passenger - It was wonderful!!!!! They're talking about another 4 inches tomorrow morning. I'm sooooo close to whipping my shovel through my picture window jumping in the car and driving south until I see the castle.

I didn't mean to go into a mile long post, (and acting like a jerk about your bad luck plane ticket situation) .I only wanted to say:

"Your plans changed but they still sound AWESOME - HAVE FUN!!"

Wow that was easy. I probably should delete all that other nonsense, but I took so much time typing it I'm just going to leave it all out there. You're welcome.

Jealous of your weather! We are expecting more snow in the morning. So over this weather! I am ready for the Florida sun! I WILL NOT complain about the heat in August once! Haha!

And I do agree my trip is short :( 8 days compared to 10 last time! It will fly by.. if only I could hit the lottery or something and go for longer. :) :)

We were thinking of switching our original plan of going to Disney June 26th and the cruise on the 29th to the cruise 1st and then Disney after but didn't wanna be in the parks for the 4th of July. I've heard that week is insane and I also read a couple reports where they suggested you do the cruise second to the parks. Glad you think our plans are good this go around!

So excited to go on my very first cruise! I'm glad it's starting with Disney! Keep seeing random cruise line's misfortunes on the news and I'm just glad to be sailing on a well recommended line. I can't wait to see all that you can do aboard! So excited to meet the frozen characters on board! The wait times for Epcot seem insane! Thanks for that tip!!

Did you sign up for your tours beforehand or when you were on board? I'm not sure what excursions we should do. We are both really inexperienced with this! Thanks for the Atlantis, I'm going to start researching now. Castaway Cay looks beautiful, I cannot wait to step foot on that island. I am praying for nice weather. :)

So happy you loved wilderness lodge! The photos of the resort just take my breath away, I can't wait to be there. The detailing must be gorgeous.

I usually start with MK but think HS will be a better option this go around. MK is an all day park plus some, so our last trip we tried to stay awake for over 20 hours straight to cram everything in when we should have went at a slower pace. I think starting with HS is a smart plan. Glad you agree!

Thanks so much for your detailed reply, I have a smile on face just thinking of my future trip!!! :)

I loved your response. I was really cracking up at some points!

Keep flying SW.. don't fly United! We both were saying some inappropriate words when we found out the 200 change fee. I can't imagine how much money airlines make on this alone. I need to buy my own airplane,

I will try my hardest to have the best time on the cruise and to portray my emotions fully in a trip report. We will get your wife on board! Man, I feel the pressure! Haha! Hopefully there won't be a hurricane when I go, because then I might scar her for life. I will do my best, good sir!

I really need to start looking into the DVC when I get close to my deathbed, you really have me sold! LOL.. I will stay at the AKL one day.. even if I'm dead! LOL Can't wait for wilderness lodge, the perks of the resort just made it so much easier to change. A boat to MK? Yes, please! Time is like money in Disney, the faster you can get somewhere the better! You only have a limited amount of time to be in the happiest place on earth, use it wisely! I cannot wait to stare our my window to my lovely woods view, LIKE A BOSS.

Glad you didn't delete all the other nonsense, I thoroughly enjoyed your post! If you decide to hop in a car to Florida, take me with ya. I am sick of this snow! We are expecting more in the morning as well. This really is an eternal winter.. we are living in a real world FROZEN!! :)

Lol, August will be much better weather than now, and I guess same counts for us when we are there in October... and understand your complaining about the duration, we're just for 7 days in Florida... they call it a 9 day trip, but 2 days is flying to and from Florida :) And if we win a lottery in the meantime our trip will be much much longer :)

But well the prefeelings still are great :)

Hear, hear on the lottery comment! I think we can all agree that if we the lottery we may find ourselves with not only another extended Disney vacation, but also a vacation home in Thousand Oaks! ;)

I hear October is an amazing time to go -- you are sure to enjoy gorgeous weather and hopefully slightly lower crowds!

We actually signed up for the Discover Atlantis excursion about a week before we left to go the cruise last month. We were originally planning on no excursions and just walking a bit around Nassau on our own, but the more I thought of it, the more I did not want to "wing Nassau" with two small children. Plus, my husband was talking to someone at work who went to Nassau with RCL and his girlfriend wanted to see Atlantis, but they did some rum-runner tour instead -- to this day all he heard from his girlfriend was how she wished they had only gone to see Atlantis as it was 'right there!' So, my DH immediately called me up and said "book it." Smart guy! ;)

Like I said though, it was Ok, and we came out of it thinking it was mostly a glorified advertisement for the resort, but the place was pretty nice and tropical, the tour guide did stop for photo ops in various scenic places, and I did enjoy the Aquarium tour. I also thought the shuttle drivers were funny and informative. They took the long way around to Atlantis and showed a bit of Nassau, which I liked. Overall, it was the best Atlantis option for our budget. If you end up doing that tour, I recommend getting the earlier one so you can head back to the ship sooner and get on the Aquaduck while everyone else is still ashore. Because we booked it so late, we only had the second tour left as an option and so we got stuck in "late lunch rush hour" traffic back to the ship -- and consequently, the pool and the Aquaduck were packed by the time we got back.

Good luck choosing!

As for WL, the lobby alone will get you awestruck!

First of all, of course you're not crazy!!! Isn't it great to have a place to come to where people will tell you that? :)

That's a shame the weather forced you to re-schedule your trip, but you have a great attitude about it. I just came back from 3 days at Bay Lake Tower followed by a 3-day cruise on the Dream, and it was a hard crash back to reality. Worse again when I arrived home to discover that we'd had 15 inches of snow while we were away!

You could check out the trip reports from last September's Unofficial WDWMagic Girls' Cruise for a few different perspectives on the Dream. Here's a thread with links to all the reports: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/dream-girls-trip-reports.875448/

If you're still eating at Biergarten, I'm sure you'll like it, there's plenty of different food to try, and I enjoyed it all.

Thanks so much for all of your help. :) I will look into the excursions now as our cruise is finally paid in full! I've always wanted to see the Atlantis, so I think the one you did might be right up my alley. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie Holiday in the Sun, but they stay at the Atlantis and ever since then I've been dying to go!

I can't wait to ride the Aquaduck.. watched a few youtube videos about it!

And the Wilderness Lodge photos take my breath away, I can't imagine what will happen when I'm actually there! I might just pass out.

Thank you for not thinking I am insane! The snow has been crazy this winter, I am so over it! I don't think in my lifetime I ever remember having a winter so bad. Glad you got to escape to your happy place and not have to shovel everyday!

I will definitley take a look at the trip reports. Thank you!

And I am still eating at Biergarten.. made our ADRs today! So excited!! We got all that we wanted. :)

With your personality -- which from your posts appears to be very outgoing and personable -- you will LOVE the Biergarten! You are seated at a family style table with other people and you so you get to make new friends, watch the musical entertainment, and raise your glasses with everyone (Hoy! Hoy! Hoy!). It was pretty cool! Only my son did not really enjoy it as there was "nothing for him to eat there," i.e., the standard Disney mac 'n cheese was not available (Lol!). I thought it was a very good buffet with a lot of new food options -- I especially enjoyed the fish, the sauerkraut, and the brats! (or whatever the sausage was!) Oh and the beer and cheese soup was awesome!

I'm so excited for Biergarten! I keep hearing wonderful things. And beer and cheese soup?! YES PLEASE. Also heard I must try the grapefruit beer. I love buffets, gave Norway a chance last visit so now it's Germany's time! :) :) And as Stacey would say, UNT PRETZEL, UNT BEER!

I think you will enjoy checking out Atlantis. We were glad we did and love seeing it on tv and can now say that we've been there!

Wilderness Lodge is amazing! One of my favorite Disney memories is when we walked through the main doors and saw the lodge for the first time. The music, the smell, all of it was so perfect. Then the CM's greet us with "Welcome Home" Not a bad way to start a vacation!

Thumbs up for Biergarten!

Hope you have lots of fun!

We felt exactly the same way when we first walked in to the Wilderness Lodge. Definitely a Magical Disney Moment. Wish I was there right now!

I too 100% agree with the Wilderness Lodge memory! It was our very first trip to Walt Disney World, and yes we saw the photos of the Wilderness lodge when we booked it, but nothing prepared us for how gorgeous the place was in person! We were absolutely speechless when we drove around that bend and saw that massively beautiful hotel ... and then when we got out the van and walked into the lobby!! Wow. Words just cannot describe that. We probably stood there for a good 5 minutes just looking up, and I remember my kids (who were very young at that time - almost 2 and 5) reaching their arms up as if they could touch the ceiling of that gigantic lobby! Best. Memory. Ever. I think we were hook line and sinker in love with Disney at that very moment .... I just wish we could stay there every time!
